As solid as the battling system is, the entirety of XY's characters and writing is just nonsense.
From the critics' consensus? No.
From the community's consensus? A lot of people will say that Sun and Moon were outright bad. X and Y isn't particularly well-received either, but most will agree that it is at least mediocre.

No, not really.
It's like pizza- bad Pokémon's still, on some level, good.
XY's characters are just so bland and forgettable. I have a hard time remembering any of them, which isn't really the case with most of the other games
