After a tough and interesting Elite 4 match I have finished Ultra Moon and man the end credit was just oozing with charm and reminded me of the gen 2 credit, though I did crack a laugh when Zygarde pop his ugly head.

But I feel conflicted about the game as a whole as I did enjoy it but I found it to be a disappointing third version as the Necrozma plot was so poorly ham fist while trying to keep the original plot which clearly did not work well as some characters got shafted due to the new story element.

Game Freak really should have done a sequel, which would have made a lot of sense as Kukui talks about Alola future being bright due to the formation of the Elite 4, and if I was writing the story I would have made it that the Ultra Recon squad were the villain launching an attack on the Pokémon after due to the result of what Lusamine did in Sun and Moon and them viewing Alolan folks misusing Necrozma light, as they view them as wasting something that Ultra Megalopolis doesn't have, I would have also made it that they had already captured Lunala/Solgaleo and were looking for a way to harness their power for their goal.

I would have changed up the Elite Four to cover types that didn't get a trial captain, namely Ice, Psychic, Bug, Guzma would have taken this role, and Poison, Plumeria would have taken this role, while adding a new trial for flying and made Ryuki a dragon trial captain.

As it currently stand, Ultra Sun and Moon end gen 7 with a dull thud rather than a bang like Black and White 2 or the other third version.

I've just finished the extra episode after the Pokèmon League and, yes, it confirms my idea of Ultramoon (and Ultrasun of course) being a version for the old fans. I found the "new" plot less interesting, but at the same time I saw it as a lite version for people that want to replay a seventh gen game. Overall I liked this version, but maybe I should have waited another year before playing it, because despite the differences, I found it too similar to the previous games. To overcome this problem, I assembled a team I've never assembled before: Primarina, Malamar, Magnezone, Lopunny, Noivern and Palossand. To be honest, I was slightly disappointed by Noivern (maybe too fragile for my taste), while the biggest surprises were Malamar (trolling adversaries with his ability was so fun) and Lopunny (her speed and attack were enough to take care of the least defensive pokèmons).
P.S. Am I the only one that sucks at Mantine surfing?

Is there any evidence that you can catch a Vanilluxe in the wild in USUM? According to the in-game Pokedex it's available to catch in SOS battles in outdoors parts of Mount Lanakila like with its previous evolution Vanillish. The problem is that there's nothing online that confirms this. Not even Serebii's PokeEarth shows it on the capture table for the area.

I found and caught one through SOS chaining in the mountainside grass. I actually looked it up afterwards since it's definitely new and didn't find anything on it, which is weird. I was fully expecting Vanillish when I was chaining.

So for the obligatory end-of-generation legendary dump in ultra wormhole, how do I get specific legendaries to appear? I'm shooting for a jolly Terrakion.

Potentially dumb question:
Started my UM game as a male, same as I did Sun, but it feels too samey and I'm contemplating re-starting as a female hoping that will re-new interest. I can claim the special Rockruff again, right? lol

Yeah, it's just a regular mystery gift, so you can claim it on a new save as long as the event is ongoing (I believe it ends in January).

It's possible I asked this question in this thread previously and don't even remember doing so. Apologies if so, lol.

I haven't played one of these games since X. Should I start with US/UM or play S/M first? Is there a reason to do the originals ahead of time? I'd rather not because I'm not typically the type of person who can jump right back into a game world but if there are legitimate reasons that S/M should be played in addition to this new version... thing... then I'd love to know.

Play US/UM, you're getting the better version.

So, I'd like to start breeding perfect IVs Pokémon. Not to compete, I don't really care about that, but breeding the perfect monster kinda sounds compelling in a "wasting my time" + OCD sort of way... if that makes sense :P
If I understood correctly I need a destiny knot (to pass on IVs), an everstone (for desire nature) and a Ditto with 6 perfects IV, right? How hard is to get one of those Dittos?

You can trade for a Ditto, but it might be enough to SOS chain a couple of 5 IV Ditto instead. You just need two Ditto that cover all 6 stats between them.

Just look up "SOS Ditto IV" or something. It requires some patience and preparation, but should be a fun diversion. I've done it a few times and even got a shiny Ditto once XD

You can't - it's totally random, unless it's one of the legendaries that requires you to have the other two in your party.

For a Jolly Terrakion, bring a Jolly synchronizer, and head into any green wormholes you see with two shiny rings or more, and eventually you'll get it.

I googled the SOS chain thing and right now I don't have what it is needed.
I also searched the GTS for a Ditto and everybody is asking for rare and/or high level monsters that I obviously don't own [and I'm not sure those Dittos would have perfect IVs anyway].

OMG Ravidrath :O
I used to trade stuff with you back in the HG/SS days <3

I think I found a workaround for the Battle Agency's leveling problem.

Players you fight online seem to have a greater then normal chance of having also used the agency and thus having Pokemon with higher levels. Check the guest list in the agency between every match, and if they have a good level, then add them to your VIP list.

...Game Freak

At least you can save after the legend is set and reroll without having to play the minigame again.

Hey just wondering if ultra is worth getting. I already own Moon, are the addition stuff worth it?

Thanks!

Edit: and is the poke bank up working for ultra as well?

Pokebank is working for the Ultra titles and the Gold/Silver VC games. As for if you should get it, that depends. I personally enjoyed it, but I enjoy every Pokemon game. If you didn't like Moon then you most likely won't like this version. It has better Pokemon selection and a few nice improvements, but story wise it is about 99% the same before post game. Post game is a little better than Moon.

I still don't get what the designers were thinking with Poni Canyon.

A path with a Trainer, and a path with a Ride Pokemon obstacle...like what's even the choice there? There's no downside to going the Ride Pokemon route!

I wonder if Ride Pokémon were more HM like at some point in the dev cycle and this is a leftover case from that. For the most part, the ride skills are handled well in a sort of metroidvania style - you encounter the roadblock, you remember it for later, you get the ride pokémon and you can now access hidden areas from earlier or progress further in the story.

But with Mudsdale, AFAIK you literally do not encounter rocky ground until two seconds after you get mudsdale. There's no backtracking element as you've never seen it before, there's no roadblock as its sitting right behind a trial gate. There's no puzzle, no mechanic, just "you have to press two buttons and be on a horse to continue because we said so". It's baffling.

I also dislike Machamp, since the main use for heavy rocks is blocking off the tapu ruins, but once you unlock Machamp and immediately backtrack, you'll find the ruins are empty until you beat the league anyway. But Musdale is a far worse offender.

The weirdest thing about Mudsdale is that even though you can go to the route you need it to pass before you get it registered to the pager, there's still gate right in front of the actual rocky terrain area preventing you from even encountering the obstacle.

Honestly as someone who adores third versions like Emerald and Platinum, this is the least interesting of them all. The first twenty hours is just a bunch of Deja Vu and cutscene spam and once the climax gets going you get stuck against a cheap boss fight that's not well designed at all despite the fact that it's supposed to be this game's version of Giratina. The post-game is also a lot shorter and not nearly as fun as the one from OG Moon (it replaces the old post-game instead of adds onto it for some baffling reason) so if you already did a ton in OG SM, you probably should skip this one, at least for a few years so the experience will feel more nostalgic.

I really liked Hau more here. Also, I loved the shenanigans of those silly Rainbow Rocket grunts and them being confused by the design of their own castle. Team Skull was as great as always.

The fight with Ultra Necrozma was so tough, and the music made it all the more intense.

I wonder if we'll see this Giovanni again. He's so ambitious since he actually succeeded in his world.

Well, I'm at about 70 hours. I've reached the point where I'm just hunting legendaries in the wormholes. After that I will resume my indefinite breeding.

But I am really disappointed with this third version. Every third version I've ever played felt like a definitive and vastly superior version of the game. The Ultra games do not.

There are positives. The Ultra Warp Ride is cool. Mantine Surfing is a fun diversion. The PokéDex is outstanding. Battles can be very difficult and that difficulty was welcome. I like the Ultra Recon Squad and I like the new Ultra Beasts. Mechanically, there's no reason to go back to the original games because the resources you have for raising Pokémon are greater.

But Rotom Dex went from one of my favorite parts of the base games to my most hated. It never stops talking. It's dialog is completely context unaware. I am often blocked from using a second screen function for several seconds because Rotom is always talking. And if you interrupt Rotom in some way, it starts over. It's extremely irritating. Rotom is one of my favorite Pokémon and I loved the original Rotom Dex but this was unbelievable.

Story wise, the game is a disaster. Lusamine is ruined. Lillie and Hau's dynamic is ruined. The localization has been simplified and meaningful scenes and dialogs are removed.

And content wise, there are so many empty holes in the game that seemed like prime opportunities to expand. Wela Volcano still has no dungeon. The Dream Park hasn't been built. Kahili still doesn't have her own plot. And all the content that was divided between the original Sun and Moon remains divided here. Costumes, legendaries, etc.

Sun and Moon are some of my absolute favorite Pokémon games. I truly, truly love them. But these revisions are my least favorite ever. I would never recommend them to somebody over the original games. That sucks.

I will continue to play the games indefinitely. This is the curse of Pokémon. But these should have been so much more than what they are. I hope other people liked them more than me.

I just started Ultra Moon and since I have access to Pokemon Bank I thought I would just send over my living dex right away and get the Shiny Charm, but there are still a few of the new Pokemon I am missing as well as a couple of old ones.

If anyone outs there wants to get into the spirit of Christmas giving and help me out with some trade and trade backs, I have a bunch of doubles of event Pokemon from Gen VI to offer or I can basically breed any competitive Pokemon pretty quickly because I have a 6IV Ditto. What I am missing is Type: Null, Cosmog, Poipole, Nagandel, Stakataka and Blacephalon

Also, if anyone could help me find my TSV so I can start shiny breeding, I would also try to help you out with a reasonable request.
Thanks.

So did anyone else do this?
After beating Guzma at the house in Po Town, if you lose to the new battle they added by the pool, you'll get teleported to the last Pokemon Center you went to, which is not the one in Po Town. Remember, the game prevents you from using Charizard Glide to fly away at this point. Unfortunately, it doesn't lead to anything interesting. The Aether House is the same. And if you get back to Po Town, the Yungoose and Nanu can't be interacted with.
Interesting loophole though. Not game-breaking though.

Would anybody be willing to trade version exclusive Ultra Beasts?

To be clear I would like to trade for the following:

my Stakataka for your Blacephalon

my Pheromosa for your Buzzwole

my Celesteela for your Kartana

I am not looking for the UBs to be any particular nature. Id rather they be untouched but its not a big deal if they have been a bit. Really just here to complete my living dex. Let me know here if you can help or feel free to send me a PM!

My 3DS FC is : 2019-9654-4739

I got this for Christmas finally. Did they increase the difficulty spike? Like holy shite I never ever lost a battle in Moon during the main story with Poplio as my starter and Ilima kicked my arse 2 times. I had to use x defense.... on Poplio. The teacher at the trainer school was a huge spike as well!

You have no idea. There is a boss that will out speed and one shot all of your Pokemon if you aren't prepared.

Getting ready for the E4

My team is alright but I feel like they are all so slow. Getting outsped by things has made a few battles difficult and made the final totem pokemon a bloodbath.

Without spoiling anything, this should have been the original Sun and Moon. Rework a few things from the original that don't fit in with this that are still left over from the original and then as a third version do a sequel or something.

Does anyone have an extra Volcanion for trade? It is the only one I don't have (aside from the new in-game Ultra Beasts in these versions of the game, but i'm still working my way through Ultra Sun right now).

I have the following legendaries available for trade:
[redacted]

EDIT: I ended up finding someone, so i'm good now :)

I can't help but agree on some things, especially the empty holes in the story and stuff like the golf course and Dream Park. It really feels a lot like half-baked DLC instead of a true third version remix and in the end while it's not bad like Gen VI (especially ORAS), it's certainly boring to those who've already played through OG SM like myself.

Holy hell that
fight with Ultra Necrozma.... it was pretty tough but I didn't lose in the end. I reset my game cause I thought Poipole couldnbt be reset for nature but i'm glad you could say no and not watch that scene over and over.
I went with Timid for Poipole in the end but it's sp attack iv is trash. I'm so glad I can trade bottle caps over from moon. Not lazy to train to level 100.

I finished it

Primarina is a boss. Great movepool to take on the game. Great SpA/SpD to mow down things with the great movepool. I gave mine a Leftovers and it became that much harder to kill. Maybe not have Munchlax in the early game with a 100% chance of having this? Mudsdale also an MVP.

I love Alola. I hope in the future they flesh out regions as well as they did here. Alola being so likable makes the games that much better. Not that I hated Unova or Kalos, but they just felt like generic regions with little flavor. Alola I felt has way more unique things going for it and a whole cast of visible and likable characters.

How did Necrozma
gain 5 levels if it becomes so weak to the point it is an instant catch at Lanakila?
