Going to play and enjoy Sword when I get it, then go back and play through all the previous gens again and enjoy them too. Take the good with the bad and have fun.

I agree about how it looks, I'm just not into it, and I'm bummed because just like what happened with Megas and what will happen with exclusive z-moves, after this gen, all those special exclusive Gigantimax forms are gonna be super hard to get in future generations. They locked Mega stones in postgame for SM and a lot of them were very hard to get, we haven't heard a peep about z-moves and I can't imagine how hard it's gonna be to find a Charmander that can use the special Gigantamax form AND find a place where you can even trigger it in Gen 9. So instead of those being like cool evolutions, they're basically forever relegated to postgame (and competitive if you play I guess?) if they come back. That's what always bums me about the gimmicks, they can look so cool and then you'll basically never have access to them again after that gen.
The lack of battle backgrounds in gym fights and other areas is probably the first major gripe with the game. Like. . . the interiors and everything literally already exist in the game, what the hell lol.
I was ok with the dex cuts on the ground that significant improvements were made to the games and the overall quality would be more on par with the DS era. I'll still enjoy the games as I have all the others, but I can't help but feel a little disappointed. I appreciate the QoL changes, the character designs being great, the characters being more expressive, etc, I just wish there was. . . more? I guess? With them literally not making pokemon available again I was really hoping for 100+ this time. Getting cross-gen evo back but then only getting 5-6 crossgen evo's is a little upsetting.

Nuzlocking is self-imposed, so what's stopping people from creating new rules are variations?

Most Pokemon you catch are higher leveled than the trainers on the route you catch them on. This is going to fundamentally change a Nuzlocke's rules and difficulty, which is where the fun comes from.

Will you allow anyone to criticize this game or are you going to continue to come into these threads and try to tell everyone why they're wrong and should love the game and feel exactly like you do? I like you Joe, but pepole are extremely annoyed and aggrivated in this thread. Saying stuff like this "I have little doubt that if it wasn't for the dex cull, it'd likely be highly regarded" is only going to cause more annoyance and irritation at you
Pokémon on the overworld, those Pokémon being higher levelled, and unable to turn off EXP share are roadblocks to a good nuzlocke run

Maybe im easy to please but i watched the whole stream and i loved everything i saw, being overleveled doesnt bother me since i have always ended up being overleveled whenever i play a pokemon game anyway. For me pokemon since the DS games has always been about the online battles the main story is always an enjoyment for me but its become the secondary mode for me.
I don't understand the point in coming in here saying this. You aren't going to change anyone's mind. We've seen the first 1/4 of the game. People can draw conclusions from that alone.
I obviously don't agree with any sort of harassment or shit you've had flung your way, but some people do not like what they've seen, and that's okay. You do not need to act like what they saw isn't really as bad as they think.
ORAS wrecked a lot of what I liked about Hoenn by stripping down dungeons and adding more handholdiness. Soaring and DexNav are fun and might make it worth it to you, but if XY and SM were too much, I'd go back to the DS games.

Except everything Serebii said it's true. Game Freak clearly listened to fans and implemented lots of highly requested changes.
Why take away the option to turn xp share off then?
Nothing about this games makes it look like a hardcore Pokemon game

All of you, just shut up. I'm tired of so many people being ungrateful for this new game. You will still be able to use your Pokémon in later games and we have 400 in the dex. Yes, there are a few minor things wrong with the game, but I'd like to see YOU make a AAA game in 2.5 years. Literally all I see about this game is salt and I'm tired of it. And if you still don't like like game, then that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but you don't need to harass game freak or fellow fans.
Yes, criticism is valid and justified. I don't jump on every criticism. I'm just pointing out where things have been said that are wrong.
Well I've already received death threats because I said people should criticise but shouldn't harass the developers so I'm used to it.

While I agree with you, he runs a very well-known Pokemon website and has invested a lot of his life into the series. Pretty objective where he's coming from.

For me the online battles aren't even a thing I engage in but I'm considering doing so for a change this time. I tend to wind up overleveled too but -- with the exception of XY, which I think was probably just as easy as these games will be -- it was because I stuck around places far longer than needbe to soak in the radiance and all that jazz. I think this is gonna be XY Redux for me in that regard; I'll still do that, and rather than being, say, five levels above everyone else, I'll be 15. <_<;

His site was also just allowed to debut a line of Pokemon Center merch, so I'm sure a guy whose entire livelihood depends on the series and is now part of their PR department is completely objective.
The Pokemon being on the overworld messes with part of the rules but the main thing is how Exp All makes it too easy to grind Pokemon without ever putting them in danger.

They implemented some changes yes, but they got rid of things fans liked and wanted more than the changes they implemented. Where's the Pokémon following you? Gone once again. Hell, half the actual Pokémon are missing in this game. I'm not saying the game has no good qualities, I'm saying it's annoyingly that he won't allow anyone to criticize the game when it's clearly not what a full price console game from the largest entertainment IP in the world should look like.
I have not once been paid by The Pokémon Company or Nintendo. Any time I have been invited to an event, travel, accomodation etc. has been paid for by myself.

Well it's clear he has a great interest in keeping Pokemon clear from any criticism.
No reason to buy this when there's a chance that they'll announce a new game for 2020. And like I said, USUM's online is very active.
Ungrateful? Lmao this is a company that is trying to make money off of you, not your best friend. They have made some amazing products in the past that I have enjoyed, but I will not shut up and I will express my criticisms of a gaming series I love. Harassing should never be condoned, but neither should silencing negativity when that negativity isn't toxic.
