Lol nope. My point was just that I hoped Let's Go would ease transition to the Switch hardware, so the underwhelming visuals feel more disappointing after being told to wait for this game to impress.

Jeez, Hop really is a Hau clone isn't he. Zoinks.

Petition to call Hau "Skip" and Gen 9's inevitable triplet "Jump."

When I saw USUM's reviews being higher than BW2's, I lost all faith.

A 98 MC is more likely than a middling MC.

I feel so vindicated after people kept telling me that I shouldn't be mad with Let's Go, because Sword and Shield was going to be exactly what I wanted in a Pokemon game. Everything revealed thus far has been absolute shambles.

At this point, I'd rather get Let's Go than this.

BW is below XY if only for trying to actually have a discussion around the ethics of its game mechanics.
Nah, XY was worst on the basis that Lysandre plan never made fucking sence. He wanted to get rid of the suppose filth caused by humans in the pokemon world, even though no such thing is ever shown in the game, but in this so called pure new world he wanted the new Adams and Eves to be Team Flare. Have you seen those grunts, they ain't no role models, much less people I would entrust to reinvent the world. They are all the 1% of the pokemon world as the only requirements to join TF was to give Lysandre a big wad of cash.

I never imagined that this game would make me want to pick up Let's Go, with its detailed backgrounds and partner Pokemon, and go for a nice stroll in Kanto as I wait for these games to have a price drop or get a used copy.

Darn, I really did skip Let's Go and avoided playing my copy of Moon so I could dive into an HD Pokemon on the Switch. What a ride.

Skimmed through the last pages, I see we got a dump of the sprites. Gmax Melmetal?! He's like my fave mythical ever so I'm happy he's getting some spotlight. Did we get a look at any new models? I see we finally got a proper look at Farfetch'd a couple pages back.

Honestly, this is giving that poor excuse of a story more attention and analysis than it ever deserved.

None of the Gmax mons from earlier have been shown yet, I'm looking forward to Melmetal too.

Yeah I was gonna say, this game makes a pretty solid case for Let's Go. I skipped it but now I'm reconsidering, lol. It's $40 on Amazon.

Lysanderoth is trash (and even worse in the anime), but at least hes not the writers trying to justify their game mechanics/premise 14 years in.

XY's story felt like an afterthought, and it somehow managed to waste two of the coolest legendary designs we've ever gotten.

At least it gave us this comedy gold:

Rose is a fucking idiot and his plan sucks ass, but at least he didn't plan to commit worldwide genocide while leaving the absolute worst team grunts in any Pokemon game alive. God, I hate XY's story so much.

And hopefully Anne frank is left out this time.
I have to say after hearing references and jokes all week I finally looked it up and that was a little disappointing.

I don't even think it's that bad of an analogy. Not that Destra is high literature or anything, but that something doesn't have to be entertaining to be engaging.

I actually think this is a nice touch and shows that lysandre equates the ability to obtain large amounts of money with moral integrity, since he himself is rich. Like with most things in XY, it's interesting but goes nowhere.

To be completely honest, I have no real issue with this. A location-centric weather system is always gonna have weird shit like this. Hell, it even happens in the Witcher 3 if you run back and forth between a rain border. It's immersion-breaking for sure, but the solution is pretty much to remove weather or at least tone it down considerably, and I'd rather have it rain 2ft away from snow than that.

rolycoly

i like this one

Graveler but big.
We had four years between RS/DP and DP/BW and it doesn't seem like the marketing/merchandise machine suffered.

They really should have never abandoned that model. Three years is just too short for 3D/HD games.
DP was actually delayed because of considerable development woes and yet the marketing turned out fine. I wish TPC could've taken the hint here.
Watched a video of the opening, and wtf, it's so jarring having it presented as is without VO. Hard to believe they still haven't taken that step. I was kind of expecting them to do it with Let's Go too, since that seemed like the perfect opportunity, but here we are >.<
If ANYTHING had to have VO in this game, it should've been the intro cutscene, main villain monologue, and champion battle. This isn't 1997 anymore where Pikachu sounds like garbled trash, voices can and will work in Pokemon, even in small amounts.
BotW handled it perfectly. Regular chit chat was text-based with some Sims-style gibberish while important story cutscenes were completely voiced (and well done at that).
BW is below XY if only for trying to actually have a discussion around the ethics of its game mechanics.
The fact that BW had the balls to do so makes it the best story in Pokemon, even if it turned out the argument was in bad faith in the end.

If they are playing with a Day 1 Patch then some of the technical issues might or might not be sorted out, they'd be able to connect to online so they'd be able to experience more of those features the leakers were unable to play due to fear of a ban, and any concerns about transferring old favorites or deleting old moves won't be that big a deal in this timeframe because Home won't be out for a while.

Shiny Wooloo is awesome. I honestly might try to get it regardless of my concerns over its future.
Hopefully there are less bans in the review thread than Death Stranding.
You know, it could be

if everyone did the smart thing and just avoided it in the first place. That thread will be nothing but a mistake, regardless of what scores the games get. Review threads in general tend to be heated and these will be worse than normal.

I'm probably going to seem overly harsh, toxic, or salty? But Pokemon reviews are always in my opinion pretty terribly written, almost reading like previews, and there have been embargoes in the past preventing pre release reviews talking about features "hard-core" players may be interested in (e.g. Reviewers couldn't mention Battle Frontier in ORAS reviews).

Remember when Lysandre beings up equality with the mega ring and it goes nowhere. Good times. At least I know he wouldn't like the gen 1 pandering either.

It's not a Pokemon fan problem, it's really a general problem with movie and gaming fandoms, but the hyper-fixation on review scores really has to stop lol.

He was just a rich narcist which is also why he talked about beauty so much keeping the world "pure" and "clean". Similar to the antagonist of Dr. Stone.

Not that makes it a good villain but many are rotten to the core and flawed on the first place.

Remember when Serena and Shauna also pick Kanto starters when you do and they just aren't on their team when you battle them after that?
Remember when the capture of Xerneas/Yveltal is only explained by talking to a Flare grunt after you beat them and it's so easy to miss?

Just thinking about ti makes me upset. All that potential.

I actually think XY has a nice skeleton of a story. The whole past war thing, AZ's thousand-year-redemption-story, Xerneas/Yveltal being used as weapons, Lysandre being the most dangerous villain yet, Malva being the Holocaster and an E4, etc. There's a lot of good ideas there, the game just seems to be afraid of touching these things because of criticism they got to BW, a very story oriented game.

A 3rd version could flesh out in a way that it could be up there with BW and SM, bring Zygarde to the story with the whole Ragnarok thing, develop Team Flare more and how much they control Kalos' society, give us a better background for Lysandre and how he became so twisted, touch up on his relationship with Sycamore and Diantha (maybe show make parallels between them and the Serena/Calem/Shauna/Trevor/Tierno), let the gym leaders actually do stuff, etc. But lol rip all that potential.

Lack of a decent story really hurts how a game is remembered. I bet very few remember how good the credits song is with the neat multilanguage lyrics, but that's what happens when you're there fighting AZ at the end of the game and you barely cared about this world and its characters.

Any new info from the past 2-ish days? I heard there are actually 435 Pokémon in the game in stead of 400 but I can't find that in the OP. Is this true?

94 Meta Critic and everything I'm annoyed about with these games will be celebrated changes by the reviewers sending a message to Game Freak that these changes are ok and accepted and that the criticism before the was just from a toxic portion of the fanbase.

🤷🏽‍♂️

I told myself I'll get these games and I am. Moving forward though I'm going to have my guard up with this series. Besides the Shinoh and Unova remakes I will no longer be a automatic sale.
