Finally some on-screen training and finally some quality Sobble screentime.

If it wasn't for some merchandise hinting at Drizzile appearing soon, I'd be worried at another Axew situation.

Pokemon 2019 misunderstanding the dynamic of long-established characters to the point of making them across as jerks or at worst, sociopathic?

Surely not.

The biggest disappointment of this anime is attempting to give Pikachu a backstory and doing nothing with it.
Why did he hate pokeballs? Why did he not like humans? Who cares because he had a Kangaskhan family who he just kinda abandoned! :S

"This episode is due to air on March 5th and features two different small stories. The first is focused on Gulpin and the second features a turtle race featuring Chewtle & Turtwig
Episode 1147: Panic! Gulpin Balls!! | Come On, Chewtle Turtle Race"

What are the Gulpin Balls doing to cause ruckus? (aside from apparently being face masks)

I hope the 2nd part is Turtwig and Chewtle stepping leisurely for 10 minutes

Been watching Pokemon XY as I slowly catch up. Previous seasons I skipped a lot of episodes, but this one I decided to watch the whole thing. Definitely been a big step up so far. About 70 episodes in, and just watched the Citron vs. Satoshi match which was fantastic. This is shaping up to be the best season so far, and could possibly surpass DP.

How could I forget to mention that Jessie imitating Inteleon was the best part of last week's episode? That woman is a treasure.

Yeah, It's pretty damn good. Probably going to start XYZ tomorrow. The gym battles have been getting better and better, Serena has had some great growth and is probably my favorite co lead since Hikari, and Satoshi is actually the most competent he's ever been.

I'm looking forward to Sun and Moon but one thing I hope doesn't happen is Satoshi getting dumbed down again. BW version of him was a bummer after how he was in DP.

XYZ has some really nice stuff that turned the Pokemon anime around completely. Serena's arc has some really nice animation for what is an unorthodox competition.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by Sun and Moon going by this. Especially the filler eps and Team Rocket are a step up from XY for the most part. Though if you're watching it dubbed you're going to miss the much better soundtrack (and witness some bizarre censorship).

Ash's competence never really goes anywhere, but do note Sun & Moon does have a huge tonal shift, especially in the first 50 episodes before it gets more of a focus.

I'm looking forward to the tonal shift, I just don't want his characterization to feel like it regressed like it did in BW

There are a few in Sun and Moon where it feels like they just went all out with the animators and hopefully Journeys gets to that point eventually.

If you aren't Go then you don't matter in this series. In a Koharu episode he catches a Pokemon but she doesn't. One that was promoted heavily. Also he's most likely getting Grookey as well. This series is becoming worse than Best Wishes smh.

They should have made a 24 hour live stream of today's episode for Serebii to watch

Glad that those Galar Pokemon weren't prolonged on the cast as they worked great here just playing around with Chloe

I have no doubt Go would have abducted Ponyta leaving its friend/family in the dirt

I loved Glimwood Tangle on the episode, and Koharu's part of the episode was really cool. She is a very entertaining character, her Eevee is not bad and I like the freshness she brings to the series. It's a shame she didn't get the Ponyta, but with how Journeys treat the Pokémon cast, I'm not bothered.

I adored the little Impidimp gang. Oh what I would have done to have Ash catch one of those rascals. I need them to appear again sometime, but I fear they will be a one hit marvel like the Ducklett trio on Best Wishes. These totally not TRio fill-ins need to come back for some more mischief.

On a side note, I personally think that Ash should have been ecstatic at the clothes that Opal handed to him, I mean, my boy has an impeccable fashion taste:

I can let slide the fact that Pikachu was embarrased, he needs a goal in order to rock any outfit and he didn't have one here. Make the Impidimp gang attack them and the little guy will be comfortable on the camo-pink hoodie in no time.

I want Hop to come out of no where

the people overreacting over Grookey and Go is funny, especially when nobody bother to read the synopsis but the random cap of an episode with Go on it.
there's still a bit of a chance of Ash getting a starter or Go getting all three, but no need to get your high horse over it.

It doesn't make sense that Ponyta stayed behind, and Ash seemed to have forgotten he already rode a Kanto Rapidash.

Genuinely surprised she didn't catch Ponyta, especially with that magazine art of it with everyone sleeping. It is weird how Opal wasn't even introduced, maybe they come back here again?

All the Koharu focused episodes have been great. Also love the direct quiz answers from the game from Opal. They certainly were not pink enough. This also makes me wonder if Bede (and Marnie) are ever going to appear.

The whole episode makes me wish Sword/Shield had done more with that. It was way too small in the game but that goes for just about every area.

Finished XYZ. This was definitely the best season of the series so far. The Satoshi vs. Shota match was easily the best battle in the series. Only slight disappointment was that the Alan match couldn't quite live up to it, though it was still one of the best battles on its own. Just a tough act to follow.

The Flare stuff was also probably the best attempt at tying in a 'main plot', though I skipped a lot of the team stuff in the previous seasons so I can't say for sure. Also kudos to them for actually creating a child character that wasn't annoying with Eureka. That's a feat lol

Will probably start Sun and Moon in a few weeks.

Nobody else felt the Team Flare stuff was skippable? Said it before but it removes the comedy aspects (on of the parts the Pokemon anime actually does pretty well), covered the whole arc in a red screen filter and the villain motivation is still just as dumb as it was in the games. Don't even think it really had any good fights or memorable sakuga either.

There was definitely some pretty nice sakuga during the big climax. Of course it didn't get as much attention as the Shota and Alan fights, but it was still pretty good. Was also neat seeing all the gym leaders and pretty much every prominent character in the season contribute.

It's my favorite part of the anime, so no, not I.

Best villain arc of the entire series. The Alan specials made it even better.
