"Upon the scheduled maintenance on August 19th, 2020, the PlayStation Vita version of PSO2 will cease operation.

The Vita version has been supported for 7 long years, even following the system's official discontinuation last March. We've had to think long and hard about how long to continue this support.

One thing we've considered is how, up until now, any content that we designed for the game would inherently have to be playable on Vita hardware. We have decided that we would like to increase the quality and capabilities of future updates and content beyond what would be capable on the platform. Therefore, we came to the decision to drop our support for the Vita in the coming days.

We would kindly ask current Vita players to prepare to switch to a different platform during the lead-up to August 19th.

Until then, we would like to express our gratitude to everyone that has spent these long years playing PSO2 on Vita. Thank you."

Wow that's wild that they legit made all the content updates work on the vita up until then.

But also makes me excited to see where they take the reason of the updates to the game now.

It's worth noting that, not only was the Vita version supported, but the game has had cross-play between Vita and PC from the start. You could log onto either platform with the same character and switch between them whenever. The game itself actually runs pretty well on the platform, even if it looks more like a PSP game than a native Vita one!

Man, I remember being super hyped to play this on the Vita when it was announced for the platform in 2012. 8 years later and it's finally being localized for everything except that platform. I have moved on and probably most other Vita owners as well so it feels fine.

They should have done this long time ago. The lackluster updates is why I quit this game when ep5 was released.

Apparently there was even a fan translation for this version, which I only found about now, when double-checking this post, lol. I don't think I would dare to try it on an intercontinental connection, though.

This is good for the future. Same reasoning why FFXIV over time dropped support for PS3, and 32-bit PC's, so they could actually update engines and use more modern technologies.
