I feel like Sony has carved niches for their games and no longer wants to compete much with multiplatform devs making different genres.

JRPGs? Plenty of devs make those. They don't feel like they need to compete or that they are able to safely rise above them. But now the problem is that MS has taken most of the WRPG studios, and they no longer have much in the way of multiplatform WRPGs. That's why I hope they create a new studio focused on making one to two big WRPGs per gen.

I'm gonna go on a limb and say either ND or SMS will make a game set in space and no matter the genre, it'll be compared to Starfield (now an MS exclusive).

Those threads will be a sight to behold.

But would they actually even going to do that? That's the main question.

Unless they resorted to their most favorite tactic again, which was the oh so called 'TIMED EXCLUSIVITY' again, just for 6 months/1 year... 🙄

I'm sure EA & Bioware + CDPR probably grinning waiting for SONY's money for next Dragon Age & The Witcher 4 respectively.

They could use those money to build studio/games for the genre instead but maybe some SIE guys/Jim Ryan/Hermen Hulst said

"no no no. No studios to buy. No WRPG/JRPGs to make. Throwing money to just own it for 6 months to a year is easier."

/half s 🤷🙄

Yeah :-/ Hate timed exclusives.

My hopes aren't high regarding a new WRPG studio, but I can dream, lol.

Kitwe, Zambia.
There's something that always stuck out for me on the Guerrilla's/HZD's documentary. It was Hulst talking about how they saw the 1st party portfolio and they hadn't anything like a RPG so Horizon could fill that gap.

I don't think it's bad to wish for a certain genre from those studios, they know damn well the freedom they have but also the responsability with the whole portfolio.
I get you
I would be totally fine with that. 😄

I also consider that would be something new from them, at least it's not AAA cinematic again all the time.

Besides, PS5 99% won't get new Elder Scrolls or Fallout.

Why not take the initiative and make new first-party IP in the genre?
As long as they keep the wide linear design instead of going full open world I'd be okay with it I guess

They should make a new AAA Hollywood cinematic comedy theme story where 90% of the story is comedy.

Then maybe, this time, I'll give Naughty Dog's "narrative presentation" another go.

At least it's not serious again & something new from them. 🤷
We turned somwhere very wrong in the timeline if instead of ND doing the serious Human Drama Games it's Bend with the Days Gone Sequel.

It probably wouldn't happen but it would interesting to have a few levels where the screen gets really blurry and you have to actually rely on feedback from the dualsense triggers, vibration and sound to navigate the level. Maybe could be flashback minigames where you are a kid learning to master your new abilities.

That could definitely be interesting. I Imagine a whole game like that would be frustrating, but having it be some kind of flashback tutorial, or limited to a few sequences in the story mode could be interesting. Daredevil is a difficult character to make a game around, because one of his key attributes is that he can't see, but he sees through sound. Not impossible to gamefy, but certainly a challenge.

Gotta question. Sony says they have 4000+ PS4 games playable on PS5. But on their store I can only find about 3000 PS4 games. What gives?

Interesting how Xbox marketing went from
"The largest launch line-up of any new console, ever"
to
"The largest launch lineup in Xbox history"
after the PS4 BC news

Makes sense since PS4 can play 50 PS2 games and Xbox One can play 39 OG Xbox Games
Xbox One can also play 568 360 games whereas PS4 can play 0 PS3 games
PSN store has 2976 PS4 games and MS Store has 1899 Xbox One games

Whatever the reason, I'm gonna sue their asses, Jim be lying again!

;)

Playing Ape Escape 2 on PS4 again, this is a pretty nice game, the camera controls are whack though, lol.

I could see an Ape Escape VR revival be really fun, catching crazy monkeys with a move controller, but we'd need analogue sticks, so I'd rather they wait till PSVR2 is a thing.

Guys, they showed the UI. We have to find something else to be concerned about, pls.

What is left?
It will be fun to see what are people concerned for

I still find very confusing about what optimized vs smart delivery of games will mean in practice.
And the equivalent on ps. Is Got just enhanced? Or fully optimized since it doubles framerate? Miles morales would be smart delivery like? Games that have fluctuating framerates aren't fully optimized of they lock their framerates to 60?

Too much marketing tags that paint a brighter picture than reality. For example Yakuza witch looks way worse than Gears is a next gen version vs fully optimized

Im thinking the difference is mostly from free upgrade for smart delivery vs paid upgrade or timed free upgrade for optimized

Would be very interesting to see in my PS5 if I'll be able to play both Miles in PS4 BC and native PS5 version
I'm guessing the PS5 version will take the PS4 versions save and make its own PS5 save
Whereas in Xbox both XSX and One can use the same save? Will have to check it out when I get it

I didn't realize how solo-able the story missions were in GoT Legends. Glad I tried though, because I was about to skip it all together.

And it was actually pretty fun too with all the new mechanics, mission structures, and the gear system. Like, that easily could have been paid DLC and still be worth it.

I'll probably try a survival mission or two, but even if I stop after that I've already had a great time with it.

when you join from the ui, you get placed on the lobby your party is.
it doesn't just load the game.

Maybe, but imo, the difference should be about how the game is compared to current gen version: just basic bc. Improved framerates from unstable ones, double framerate (or resolutions too), improved visual effects only available for next gen

That's crazy!

Just a little shame Sony didn't show more of Destruction Allstars in that video clip like with Sacboy. Could have been a good exposure for the game.

Maybe they will use it more in one of the next UI videos. Though those videos will obviously not get as many clicks as the first one (unless there is an unknown killer-feature).

But we'll get also a new trailer for the game soon™, so it will get some more exposure before launch regardless.
Would be nice if that trailer would be actually one of those deep dive SoP's.
While I don't need those game centered SoP's for story-driven games, it is a pretty good presentation style for games like DA.
At least if the game has enough content/modes to go this route what I would hope with a 80€ price tag.

PS5 UI reveal video really is a....beast ! It's one hell of an advanced looking and functioning UI so props.

I think there will be one last batch of content designed to hype, like launch day games showcase (we've seen very little of Demon's Souls) or even PSVR2...

Kingdom of Corona
For real. It even made me dislike Lara lol
The story was never good in any TR game. But this one is so so bad, even for the serie.

Plus seems the studio had the bright idea to listen to the "fans" that wanted the game to be just Tombs.
Well, the result was a game that we spend 80% of the time climbing, turning wheels, and pushing stuff.

rise had the perfect balance with combat, exploration and puzzles.

Destruction Allstars looks really good and fun but 80€ is just the wrong pricing for the game.

80€ for a game that might be unplayable in 2 weeks because the community is too small is just too high of a risk.
Also, the game just doesn't fall into the "super high production costs" that it would justify that pricing.

The game should have been either 40€ or launch on ps+ with a lot of mtx.
The way it is, it will probably die rather quickly. I hope it won't, though.
