Sony Is Struggling With PlayStation 5 Price Due to Costly Parts
Scarce components have pushed the manufacturing costs for Sony Corp.’s next PlayStation to around $450 per unit, forcing a difficult price-setting decision in its battle with Microsoft Corp., according to people with knowledge of the matter.

Still most of us in tech threads while looking at parts call $299 since we knew about the system specs .
That why if you look at PS5 parts anything over $499 is nonsense and it cheaper than that .
In fact the BOM could have gone down from $450 because ram and SSD parts drop in price because of the lack of smart phone shipments .

this is correct, because their biggest price issue back from the bloomberg report was exactly those things before covid hit, on top of reportedly good yields on the SOC i just dont see anything being greater than 499. sony is very price conscious and would sell at a loss if they have to.
But there are those hand engraved PS symbols on the DualSense, also that like art design expensive looking console.
look at this way, if the current BoM is rumored at around 450$ which is including the disc drive then the price with a higher margins can be 499. remove the disc drive which costs about 10-20$ dollars off from the BoM and you get around 450$ figure for a disc less model. now why would someone over price this to nearly 550 to 600$, it just sounds absurd IMO

Yeah, no way does the disc PS5 go above $499. If they do well... then good luck.
If anything, because of COVID they may be able to pull off $349 / $449 (doubtful but possible) which would be a direct answer to the Xbox pricing today.
Yeaaah, with all due respect, if Dusk Golem managed to know about the price, then we it would've leaked already by who knows relatable insider. Just like with Ps4, Ps3 etc only a handful of people know it and whoever finds it by accident inside the company basically is gonna sign an NDA that will put their life on Jimbo's hands.

Yeah, PS4 is going through severe stock issues in Japan at the moment.
Anything is possible so like on the off chance that price is real I just can't believe it. It goes against everything we know.

If it is, i so want a rundown to what happen within Sony. Because to me, this seems like a massive fuck up. Far more expensive and weaker and being a 1080p60fps struggle bunny... I really want to see know what went down.

Oh, I know. It's just to get an idea on how long those prices might have been there. I see a Pro model starting at 48.000 yen but the rest is within reason. With my non-existent Japanese, I have no idea if they stopped stocking the system sooner than other places.
Well, just being curious. The original price was probably a better indication on why it shouldn't cost the amount discussed earlier.

Yup, lots of Playstation buzz again, reminds me of how they still got all that great buzz at that E3 where they got all the new exclusive PS4 games despite not even being there while MS had a whole conference but it was mostly multiplats you could just play on PS4.
We can discuss Dusk Golem's price estimates without making jokes and jabs about the RE stuff and one sided stuff please. I dont believe it'll be above $499 but I think we can disagree with him without coming off petty. It's a bit mean spirited
