Heck, ffs, Macron had to justify himself so many times on his own word usage such as "pognon de dingue" or "tu m'appelles pas Manu" or "Jupiter".
Whenever it's about racism or anything else, we care a LOT about word usage.
I dont know if it's a cultural thing, but I know one thing for sure: In French, we CLEARLY understand the impact of some words. :)
I actually don't watch TV and especially don't watch interviews of racist pricks like the the LePen family. And of course, people needs to be extra careful on TV in every country, that's just the way it is.
I'm talking on a day-to-day basis, you won't ever hear someone use the word "negro".
Maybe I'm just lucky but I never had such a thing happening here, that's why I have the impression that people here doesn't care about the usage of that word.

There was fucking mayhem all over the Country when JP Gourlain said "working like a nègre" on TV and that is much more tame than négro (nigger)... anti-racism protests, boycottin JPG products and shops forced to be closed... but yeah, you never noticed anything because French people just don't care. I was far from born at the time, I genuinely never knew anything about that incident and I forgot who that guy even is, so yeah I never noticed it.

Well, he said in a moment of rage. It was very wrong for him to say it but in this instance, since it was sudden and careless, it's called a slip-up.
I'm not particulary good at english but I do know that at least. I wasn't saying that it was something minor, that's not what I meant at all.
