I'm bumping this thread, because the other recent Persona 5 threads have had to do with story spoilers and I haven't quite finished.

I made a big push towards the end of the game this weekend. Like 10+ hours, which is a lot of game for me. Up to about 68 hours and I think I'm close, I just finished the Casino and went through the few *hours* of cut scenes that follow. The villain dialogue towards the end of that sequence may be the most hackneyed, awful writing I've seen in a modern game that was trying to be serious, but other than that I still really enjoyed that whole sequence and only partially saw the twist coming. How much play time do I have left at this point if I'm rushing?

I am ready to be done with this so I can move on to some other PS4 games. I've been holding off on Uncharted 2, 3, 4, and Bloodborne until I could fully finish.

At your pace I'm guessing 10-15 hours.

It's a great great game...........that should have been 20 hours shorter than it was.

More than that for me. I put in 50 hours, saw I was only around halfway done and bailed as I was just bored to death and sick of it already.

To be fair, I found P4G a slog that I slowly worked through on and off on Vita for nearly a year so these games probably just aren't for me.

That's at the higher end of what I was hoping... oh well.

My stats so far:

- I have one lvl 10 confidant with Ann, and have like six lvl 8/9 confidants that I should finish with a few interactions. Just learned there was one whole confidant branch I missed after trying to fuse into a Sun type and not having any bonus on the fusion. No clue where I missed that one.

- I have all my skills at 4 besides intelligence, which is at 5.

- I have my Persona-dex at 43%.

- My characters are all around lvl 55, it's nice that the whole party gets XP even when not being used.

- I'm dating Ann, but I kinda want to date Takemi, Hifumi, or Makoto.... I just got to Ann's point first due to her being available earlier.

Nier: Automata and Persona 5 were the largest JRPG disappointments during this gen for me, though that's not a case of games being bad, I just set my expectations too high in advance even though I should know better. P5 has the best gameplay and my favorite style in the series, so there's that. I did put Persona on a serious worry list after finishing P5, so I'm going to temper my expectations for Persona 6. Not sure how much I'd enjoy moustache-twirling villains anymore.

Persona 5 is, at this point my favorite JRPG of all time. It is a scathing commentary about the political climate, i really like the characters (Yes even Morgana), and the game is stylish as hell. Some of the dialogue was cheesy, But it did not hinder my enjoyment of the game in the slightest.

People doesn't praise this enough, the crude reflection of corruption and power through different prisms so in vogue nowadays.

Eh, my playthrough lenght is right now at 110+ hours and I'm at the final dungeon. Actually I kinda want finish the game and replay it but now with the meta-knowledge about the Confidents (and the Fortune arcana gains) and the max stats for my MC.

I spent about 85 hours beating it and I never really felt like I was rushing. It took me over 100 to be P4 at the same general play style.

I thought there would be something after the final boss in P5 because how short it was in comparison to P4 and P3. Still, P5 is easily my GOTY for 2017.

Technically, yeah, should I have spoiler tagged that?

No that's fine, I just was hoping for only one more. I also just was trying to figure out where it fits into the schedule if the game ends by the New Year and I'm in late November.

It's take on the matter is pretty skin deep. I don't find it too interesting because it hasn't really elevated itself so far.

Had never played a Persona game before and had never really dabbled in any JRPG. Put in 126 hours for Persona 5 from start to finish. Amazing game. Can't wait for Persona 6.

I'd be interested to know how you find the rest of it, the last two dungeons really took the shine of a pretty much perfect game for me, last 10-20hrs were a bit of a slog.

I think the game's take on things are pretty interesting. Like Palace 5, that is a huge reflection on the often overlooked working conditions. The fact that all of the enemies are nothing more than literal robots is a pretty on the nose commentary about how people are just "cogs in the machine". Some of the displays are a bit over the top (for dramatic flair), but the issue is a very real one.

Even the Phantom Thieves themselves can be compared to the SEALDS movement. Young individuals trying to change a country where they feel they have no voice. The Phantom Thieves website is their line to the rest of the population.

Also the final palace unfortunately has a lot of untranslated text in some of the backgrounds, that really highlight some of the motivations of the palace owner.

I ended up fast-forwarding a lot of cutscenes (more and more as the game went on), and oddly I was quite satisfied with the Cliffs notes version of the story that I got, and it made the pace bearable. Still much preferred P4 though. That game had charm, so much charm.

Go back and play 3 and 4. Both great games with a similar sense of style as P5.

I actually just bought a PSTV specifically for Persona 4 Golden. I've played about 3 hours so far. A bit difficult to go from the HD super stylized Persona 5 to an older game, but I am looking forward to playing more.

Man, if the bank was this bad then I am dreading what you will think about the next one.

I found that dungeon (the one with that aweful puzzles that comes after the bank) to be the worst dungeon in the whole game.
The bank puzzles where you have to find letters = numbers to move the vault walls? It is in fact the worst part of the game so far.

Health could be a way of cracking down on the not doing a castle in one swoop though. It's real irritating to be stunted by lack of SP several times when doing a dungeon.
It isn't that big of a deal, really. I played through the game without any SP regenerating gear and just used whatever items I found. It usually only took me two attempts to reach each dungeon treasure. I was never pressed for time or felt rushed in any way. There is no need to rush or min/max anything.

The best advice is on the loading screens.

"Take your time"

The only relevant question in the game is: Futaba or Makoto?
Futaba.
I couldn't resist Makoto and I had to stay loyal. Futaba was tempting, though. If she had come earlier in the story, maybe.

It doesn't elevate so far because it serves as a skin for presenting a boss and killing it on a videogame of 100h long who invest grand part of that time in gameplay (combats, social links,...). But the idea of palaces, the scenes presenting the corrupted people, their behaviour and consequences,... everything is there; alongside the theme of a group of people taking the law into their hands and its moral dilemma. I think it's a pretty strong message and not common in too many games nowadays.

I like the battles and the way you can just negotiate with enemies instead of having to kill them.
I'm gonna be that guy: You should really give Shin Megami Tensei a try if you liked the battle system in this game, that's where the negotiation originated from.

Honestly I think gameplay-wise, P5 is the best Persona game of what I call the "modern Persona trilogy" (P3, P4, and P5). Story-wise it has it's issues though, however it's presentation is excellent.

A neat little thing for Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne fans that have played P5:

In the Battle Arena, you fight three battles and the third one is Thor. In Nocturne, in the Mantra Trial, you fight three battles....and the third one is Thor.

I loved it. Long-windedness and all. Just an outstanding game with a unique feel to it.

And the soundtrack is god-tier stuff.

There is one that's way worse than that.
The one I'm guessing you're talking about:

The fucking space station and it's "Alright guys, I'm sure the treasure's on the other side of the room beyond that door! Let's go!" Then you go into another huge fucking room "The treasure's behind that door, we're almost there!", and then there's yet another fucking room.

I'm done with the Ship palace, I'm going to assume the remaining plot has to do with Mementos and Morgana. I've gone as far down in Mementos as I can currently.

I'm around 77 hours in now and have really been pushing it these past few nights. I think I'm on 12/9 now and just grinding Confidants until the deadline. I'm up to four lvl 10s and have a few more at lvl 9 that I should be really close with.

The soundtrack in still on repeat on my car.
And around when the game launched someone made a theme for android and a skin for the messaging app that looks like the one in the game. Haven't stopped using yet.
Loved the game but like a lot of people said, it needed to be 30 hours shorter. makoto best waifu

I'm watching the final cutscenes now! Ending was super expected, but whatever I still enjoyed it. Just under 84 hours to finish.

Spot on

I can pinpoint the moment in the game that felt like could be cut out in its entirety: The whole Haru storyline.

But P5 is still the best JRPG in the last decade or more.

Haru is definitely not needed. She adds almost nothing to the game.

You basically have two dungeons left, plus a boss rush of sorts. One of these dungeons is easily the longest in the game, but one of them is probably the shortest, so it more or less evens out.

By the way, you're super fast lol. It took me around 100 hours to get where you are now.

I have finished, put my final thoughts above you.

I ended up really speeding through things in the last half. I tried to do most of the dungeons in one or two days so I could get as much out of the links as possible. I skipped through a lot of the texting scenes and popularity meter loading screens only skimming, I realized how redundant they were.

could've gone on for longer and I still would've given it a 10/10. It is hard for a 100 hour game to not be boring at some point, but Persona managed that, easily
whoops didn't notice this was an old thread someone bumped

It's a hell of a game that was super mellow all the way through, but after dropping so many hours into it, I started wanting to force finish it because of upcoming games at the time. However, I've been getting a P5 itch lately so i might go down the rabbit hole for a new game plus

Finally finished! Just in time for the rumoured switch port of course.

I.... loved it! But not without reservations. Off the top of my head, some stats were harder to raise than others. Some characters needed more fleshing out. I could have done without Morgana restricting my activities at times. But yeah, pretty great.

I finally finished it on Christmas eve, having started near release day then took a break of over a year. I agree they could have cut 20 hours from it with little loss of content but otherwise it's really, really good.
