Pretty cool. I've heard mixed things about this one but I thought the P4 anime was a pretty good time.

It's just kinda unremarkable IMO. It doesn't have as much fun with the MC as P4A or give him depth like P3A did.

But still it's more Persona and I'm always up for that, but it's a shame it's so expensive. Hope it gets some kind of alternative release.

That's Aniplex USA for you. They basically release and price things like the JP releases are priced. They also have shows like Anohana and Madoka, both around 11-12 episodes, at $120 each. And I'm pretty sure Madoka was originally released in 3 volumes that were like $70 each.

P4 anime was good because they leaned into the daily life comedy scenes and explored certain things more in depth than the game did. Yu Narukami was also a fun character to watch, with actual development. Some scenes also had great directing that could only be done in anime form, like what they did with the Void Quest dungeon.

The P3 anime had great action scenes, it looked good for the most part, and the focus on the protagonist Makoto Yuki told a story unlike what the game presented.

The P5 anime, however, is almost a 1:1 retelling of the game. They did not let the P5 protagonist become his own character unlike the other adaptations, so he remains a mostly silent blank slate with barely any real arc or personality. Pretty much all of the scenes are directly from the game, so there is no unique or interesting element that could only be done through an anime adaptation, unlike the others. There are two big reasons for this:
  1. They started work on the anime before the game actually came out. They did not intend to use feedback or reception from the game and apply that to the anime. Instead, they just worked on what the game showed itself, and the safest way to do that is to just retell the game in a straightforward manner.
  2. The creators thought they made Yu Narukami too much of his own character in the P4 spin-offs, and they wanted to scale things back with the P5 protagonist in his own spin-offs. That makes for a character with less personality, and that can be boring to follow in something like an anime where you don't have any control.

Air this on Toonami or put it on Netflix or something. Fuck Aniplex. Also, I'm going to assume this has the new Tae voice.

Aniplex really out here continuing to do this huh? Who is spending this amount of money on anime series? I would think nobody but yet they continue to price these sets like this so they must be selling, which is depressing

Persona 5 the Animation Complete Blu-ray Set Announced for September 29, 2020, Includes Brand New English Dub, Trailer - Persona Central

A complete Blu-ray set of Persona 5 the Animation has been announced for a Western release on September 29, 2020, and it will include an English dub.

Scroll down, it'll tell you.

Always a fun time seeing people get introduced to Aniplex.
That is so wild. Who is possibly paying that price? I had mild enjoyment while watching the Persona 4 Animation but I'm sorry there isn't a season of any television show that's worth $300 USD, and certainly not this one if it's anything like P4's animation.

I saw that price earlier and had a good laugh, fucking Aniplex.

Depending on how interested you are in their catalogue it's probably way cheaper to buy a region free or B blu ray player and import UK releases than to buy from Aniplex

Man that's unfortunate, my favorite thing about P4 anime is that they took some liberties to make changes to better fit things into the Anime story in cool ways.

And its weird that they insist on making Joker a blank slate when he's probably has the most personality of the blank slate protagonists in game.

As soon as I saw the Aniplex logo I suspected this would cost fuck you amounts of money, and sure enough it does.

Are they the ones who charged like $80 for a single P3 OVA???

The very same. For some reason, one of the OVAs (but ONLY one, I think the third one) was on Canadian Netflix, so it's the only one I've seen.

Also, while searching to see if it's still on Canadian Netflix (it's not), I discovered this:

Maybe that's why it's $300.

they truly are among the worst, their pricing is absolutely insane

How is it btw? Persona 4 animation felt like a decent enough retelling of the story, but nothing special.

I fully agree with this.
P4 was not that great but it had heart thanks to the obvious fan feedback they included in it for the MC.
P5 was a boring mess from start to finish, it did absolutely nothing to justify the transition to the anime medium.

Did the studio ever do touch ups for the show for the dvd/blu ray release? I remember there being a lot of criticism for some of the animation looking stilted and characters looking off model in the early episodes

Oh fuck, I just started watching this, guess I'll hold off for now.

It's not great, but after awhile I just treated the show like I was watching a let's play.

This was fairly mediocre, but the new Lyn songs were slaps. I was really hoping they would find a way to put Dark Sun in Royal.

That price is a joke, fuck Aniplex. It pisses me off that I can't buy Persona 4 the animation on Blu-Ray (or even DVD) anywhere. Sentai Filmworks used to sell it, but Aniplex yanked away their license and they refuse to reprint it so there's no way to own the show now. Someone is selling it on Amazon right now for 600 dollars, it's fucking bullshit.

Thankfully Demon Slayer is getting a sanely priced Funimation release.

Does Persona 5: The Animation have the homophobic scenes from the original game?

This price reminds me of that 1000 dollar app on the appstore that didn't do shit from years back. What a joke(r).

People, please do not buy this DVD (well, if the price didn't already scare you...). Atlus decided that the homophobic jokes were so important that they needed to make expensive animation based on them. Games normally cut the more unimportant bits when going to anime versions, but Atlus thought this was important and funny enough to keep in the script and expensively animate.

Aniplex and their ridiculous pricing is the reason why I still don't own the complete Gurren Lagann blu ray set. I don't know why they feel they can justify the pricing of their sets when they aren't particularly noteworthy in terms of quality compared to the competition from Sentai Filmworks or Funimation for that matter.

The Patlabor Ultimate Collection is a good example of what I'm talking about.
Patlabor_816726027234_01_00_1012x1080_6cb288f8-728b-42b8-833f-c574877a4176_500x.jpg

Sentai Filmworks selling the entire Patlabor series, All 47 Episodes, the 20+ Episode OAV, and the three movies in a single set which is contains almost 2200 minutes of of content for $65. I swear if this was published by Aniplex they would have no qualms trying to push this set for like $500 or something equally ridiculous.

......I really doubt it was Atlus' personal decision to demand that be included.

Not that I'm not disappointed it's still in there(especially since the P3 anime cut the transphobic bit) but acting like it Atlus personally demanded it is odd.

And no I'm not buying this so don't worry.

Yes lots of things had been fixed, but it's still nothing special except for some small parts. Could have been way more and they really didn't do anything with the medium. Liked the last two episodes though and the awesome OPs.

I don't understand the price, it should be like $30. Is it some kind of ultimate special edition?
