Maybe the wrong place for this, but what kind game is this? I love persona but honestly never paid attention to these cuz I thought they were just fighting games. But after watching a trailer that's not correct. What's the game structure here?

It's a musuo, so like the same as Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity that came out recently.

It's not really similar to Age of Calamity at all. While the combat controls similarly, it has a linear story with a calendar and dungeons like Persona 5. You sneak up on enemies like you do in that game and when you initiate combat then you have a short musou-like battle with a crowd of enemies smaller than you'd normally fight in a musou. It's basically a Persona game with action combat rather than a musou with a Persona skin.

It's an action RPG sequel to Persona 5 with musou-like fights and with a presentation which is nearly identical to the original.

If you have a japanese account, try out the free demo on PSN and eshop.

Thanks all! Sounds like I'd like this. I'm in.

I don't think the calendar means as much as it does in Persona, and someone would have to correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think there are true social links either.

Those are both true, it doesn't really lean on the social sim aspects. I just meant the presentation was very similar, like another poster mentioned. The game is full of Persona's typical long-winded cutscenes that people either love or hate, so whether you enjoy the game or not probably depends more on your attitude towards Persona than your attitude towards musous.

Yeah, but you still get to explore ctities between action phases, there is a ton of dialogue and dungeons are closer to those from Persona 5 than to anything in Age of Calamity. It feels closer to an action RPG version of P5 than to a standard musou.

Absolutely. I mean if you love Persona even a little you have to consider this game. Just don't want people thinking Persona 5 Part 2 and assuming it is what it isn't. This is more akin to Yakuza 0-6 then Yakuza 7, same style, same spirit but at the same time very different in certain key areas. As long as you know what you're getting into ahead of time you should be perfectly fine and hopefully have a blast.

The format of the game really interests me. Think I'll like it a lot.

not sure about performance but load times can be brutal

I made something not unlike a "squee" noise when I watched this thing before it went publicly live. I don't comment often on the stuff I see ahead of time because why would I, but yeah. I was grinning ear to ear. Strikers looks pretty effing sweet.

Weird this is coming to Steam without the original Persona 5.
Especially as its a story sequel.

I mean I'm glad. But Sega need to get the original on there pronto.

Hope this sells well enough on the switch so it shows Atlus there is an audience for Persona on Switch.

Game was great last year in February so enjoy! I really liked the story too and the gameplay is perfect for what they are going for. Still a bit ridiculous that most of you had to wait a year for the release.

I'm really looking forward to this! At the same time, I've never played a Warriors style game. After watching a few minutes of combat, it looks really confusing. I hope it isn't a big deal.

I still don't know to get the ps4 or switch version
I feel like you would really need to value portability to go Switch here. Those load times alone are brutal enough, but I'd want my musou games to perform as well as possible.

I played and enjoyed Age of Calamity, but if I had the option of a better performing version on any other platform I would have played it there, handheld be damned.

I always felt like Persona 5's anime cutscenes were so clean

As already mentioned, the game plays like an Action RPG rendition of Persona 5, rather than a Dynasty Warriors/Musou game with a Persona skin. The calendar system is still in place (but there are no real deadlines to finish the dungeons), you can still fuse Persona's, you can sneak up on enemies to initiate combat, and so forth.

It's really not that different from P5, and quite honestly, I wouldn't mind a mainline instalment that takes a similar approach.

I'm more concerned about combat being real-time and not turn based. There are like a dozen enemies on the screen at once and it looks like chaos. I just hope it will make sense once I play.

look at the load times comparison video posted above. There is your answer

I didn't see the video before. Thanks for letting me know. I'd like to support Persona games on Switch but with these loading times,... I'd go for the PS4 version then.

I totally forgot the bad performance AoC has in Switch. I have not bought the game yet because I'm waiting for a patch, just playing the demo was annoying with that bat performance. I'd go for the PS4 version of P5S then.

Trailer looks great. Wish the digital art book that came with preorders gave us an option to get it physically.

After completing Royal I'm really stoked to get back to these characters. And I'm a musou fan too so this works out great.

This game is following the original version, not the Royal version. As such, certain characters such as Kasumi or Maruki won't appear (or even be mentioned) in Strikers. There might also be some light discrepancies between the stories.

I really want this game, but I still haven't played the main game yet since I've been holding on for a Switch port (not willing to play a 100+ hr jrpg on a console). So I'll have to pass this for now.

I'm nearing the end of P5R and I've been really enjoying it apart from the combat, which I find really tedious, so I'm hoping this game will be more my kind of thing in that respect. Seems like a much more reasonable length too.
