These are bad arguments. Just because it's fringe (it isn't really, ao3 is a big website with millions of pageviews a day) or that some of it is done by teenagers, doesn't make it less creepy when the overwhelming audience is adults. That's fine if you find that creepy (it's not really my thing either), but I don't think we should just decide that people shouldn't be allowed to make and post these anymore.
It's not like these texts are going around on high-profile twitter or instagram pages, you NEED to go looking for it to come across it in the first place, either that or someone shares it with you as a "wow look how weeeeird and gross these people making these are".
Don't also forget that a huge part of the public of most kinds of fan-fics, readership and writers, are still teenagers.
How old are we talking here? I haven't heard if these guys.
Flaming hot cheeto affair plotline.
Where though? I've never encountered this type of thing. It isn't that complicated. You can find things like this by scrolling through the subject listings, seeing that there's a listing for these YouTubers, going "WTF", clicking that, and chances are good you'll see porn early on the first page.

Literally a "Celebrities & Real People" section right on the front page of AO3
Eh, that only applies to TV shows, and I do feel like there's ample distinction between the actors and the characters. Like, if a character commits atrocities, that doesn't reflect on the actor.I would put forth the argument that most fanfics are essentially RPFs anyway. If I write an erotic Hannibal x Will Graham fic for example, the people being visualized fucking in the mind's eye of my readers are the very real human Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen.
Never even heard of AO3 before today......and now that I've seen it answers all my questions. I thought this was something happening in a more visible place on the internet. This seems like complaining about the shit you run into on DeviantArt.Literally a "Celebrities & Real People" section right on the front page of AO3
Ya tbh the issues one might have with RPF aren't really lessened IMO for pornstars bc they didn't necessarily ask for or control what gets written there either

Agreed. I guess to a lesser extent it might apply to really big IPs where the IRL acted adaptation is much more widely known that the 100% fictional original, but it's subjective imo.
Of course, but I think this serves as more of a defense of RPF than a criticism. A character committing atrocities in official fiction don't reflect on the actors because it's not real, so surely a derivative non-canon work of that character wouldn't either. This doesn't excuse people sending these fics to the actors or generally creeping directly at them though, that's just harassment.and I do feel like there's ample distinction between the actors and the characters. At the end of the day, no one has control over what people think about any of us and what they write about us can be viewed as a direct extension of that. Maybe that's a hot take, IDK. I feel like the real issue is people not respecting boundaries and consent with the actual actors*; saying that just the act of writing a fic on a random webpage is bad feels a little bit like "stop being horny" to me. People lusting over any random stranger they see and talking about it has been happening since we developed language and it being on the internet was an inevitability.Ya tbh the issues one might have with RPF aren't really lessened IMO for pornstars bc they didn't necessarily ask for or control what gets written there either
...now this is definitely at least a little bit weird lolI'm not sure if this is worse than the sheer amount of celebrity role-playing going on on Reddit. People will pretend to be celebrities together, like "LFM to role-play Natalie Dormer and Tom Huddleston".
That's why people switched to using the term RACK (Risk Aware Consensual Kink). Technically, no sex is ever safe! Just safer.

Anyone who has spent even a fraction of time on any online fandom for real life people will have encountered RPF. Most of it is, honestly, pretty harmless "what if these 2 cute boys I like kissed?" type of stuff written by teens. However... there's pretty much always a seedy underbelly with this stuff. Like the OP shows. I remember years and years ago following someone on tumblr who got exposed for writing really hardcore ageplay smut about the fucking Game Grumps. But you have to go out of your way to find that stuff if you're not already into it, really.
Personally I'm not a fan of RPF at all. It can so easily go from the pretty innocent fun stuff (that a lot of creators are okay with) to really weird and kinky shit.
