I love the series but in terms of animation Walt Disney was running circles around Peanuts (and really a lot of the "cheap" animation of the 60s and 70s) some 30 years prior since animation budgets were later hacked to death across the entire industry.
I watched "The Reluctant Dragon" on Disney Plus this morning and holy shit was the whole animation process back in the "golden age" a massive undertaking. It's no wonder that didn't keep up when everything moved to television.
Nonstop bullying and abuse for Charlie Brown from his friends and family. Making WW1 cute.
I really disagree.
Classic Schulz humor right here:
The animated specials and movies never approached the wit or poignancy of the strip at its peak.
While i agree with you 100 percent, i will also tell you that shouldnt bother with trying to explain this. You have no idea what you're talking about. This is a completely nonsensical takeaway from Peanuts. Zero basis in the text. Peanuts is a tremendously positive strip that never endorses the bullying as acceptable (although sometimes as inevitable). And there's a strip in this very thread that puts the lie to the idea that Charlie Brown is abused by his family. There's more to Peanuts than Lucy pulling the football away. All you need to know that is to read this thread.
A Boy Named Charlie Brown comes damn close, but overall yeah, the strip is another level from all other permutations of the property. At his peak Schultz was devastatingly truthful about a great number of things in life, and he got it all into a daily gag comic.

I also really enjoyed the CG movie. It's way better than I expected and they did an amazing job translating the classic art style to CG.Peanuts, both animated and in strip form, is a timeless treasure.
And you know what, that CG movie they released isn't half bad either even when they're trying to modernise it and give it as happy an ending as anything Peanuts could ever really have in 90 minutes. It's really wonderful stuff that lives beyond its time unlike, let's say, Garfield. Which I loved as a kid, and now I barely tolerate, my love for Peanuts endures. Although animated and longform Garfield at it's peak is so much better than the strip.

It's not nearly as clever as some of the shorts or the old series, but still I had a good time.
Absolutely true. A shame it doesn't get more recognition though. I'd rather see more like this than a lot of the other big animated features (looking at you Pets)You can tell a lot of love went into it from everyone involved.
Yes, recently as an Apple TV+ exclusive
MODS!Its never been good, I always found it real boring and actually surprised its still going.
I really need to read more of the original strips. I loved the animated movies growing up. My favorite Peanuts moment is probably the end of A Boy Named Charlie Brown:
