NBCUniversal has unveiled the name, initial programming lineup and strategy behind its forthcoming streaming service.

The ad-supported, direct-to-consumer platform will be called Peacock and launch in April 2020 with a lineup of more than 15,000 hours of content, including exclusive library titles like Parks and Recreation and originals including reboots of Battlestar Galactica, Saved by the Bell and Punky Brewster. Peacock will take center stage during NBC's coverage of the Summer Olympics in 2020 when the entire NBCUniversal fold will get behind the platform with a massive marketing push promoting the service, with originals set to launch after the Games.

Peacock will be the exclusive streaming home for both The Office and Parks, with other library titles set to debut at launch on the service eventually becoming exclusive to the platform. Those titles — nearly all of which are from studio counterparts Universal TV and UCP, are 30 Rock, Bates Motel, Battlestar Galactica, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Cheers, Chrisley Knows Best, Covert Affairs, Downton Abbey, Everybody Loves Raymond, Frasier, Friday Night Lights, House, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, King of Queens, Married … With Children, Monk, Parenthood, Psych, Royal Pains, Saturday Night Live, Superstore, The Real Housewives, Top Chef and Will & Grace.

Feature film library titles from within the company fold — including from Universal, DreamWorks Animation and Focus Features — will also be available at launch, though on a non-exclusive basis. Peacock will also look to Universal's feature division to create TV series from its established film franchises. Library titles available at launch are American Pie, Bridesmaids, Knocked Up, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers, A Beautiful Mind, Back to the Future, Brokeback Mountain, Casino, Dallas Buyers Club, Do the Right Thing, Erin Brockovich, E.T., Field of Dreams, Jaws, Mama Mia, Shrek and The Breakfast Club. The Bourne, Despicable Me and Fast & Furious franchises will also be available.

Peacock's initial original drama slate will consist of a new take on Battlestar Galactica from Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail; Dr. Death, starring Alec Baldwin, Jamie Dornan and Christian Slater; Brave New World, formerly developed for USA and starring Demi Moore; limited series Angelyne, from Esmail and starring Emmy Rossum and based on a Hollywood Reporter feature; and thriller One of Us Is Lying. (The latter will be a pilot.)
On the comedy front, the original roster includes an updated take on Saved By the Bell from Tracey Wigfield (Great News); Rutherford Falls, co-created by Mike Schur (The Good Place), Ed Helms and Sierra Teller Ornelas and starring Helms; pilot Straight Talk, from Rashida Jones and starring Jada Pinkett Smith; a Punky Brewster sequel (also a pilot) starring Soleil Moon Frye; and the second movie spinoff of Psych. Those join the previously announced NBC import A.P. Bio on the service.

FUCK, they're going to have Parks and Rec exclusively? I'll probably just pic up the series on Blu Ray.

They have Psych, but do they have Burn Notice?

Hulu is going to be a much worse value proposition for my household one those NBC shows go away.

Is CBS streaming doing well? Cause this sounds unnecessary

The Office, Parks & Rec, 30 Rock, Frasier, Psych, and Superstore is an awfully strong lineup of classics in my house.

I think this is going to be a tough sell when the streaming wars begin, even though they have a pretty decent library. Office and Raymond are good, long running sitcoms that will probably be the most watched shows on the service. Every SNL in one place could be cool. Kardashians is also on SEASON 17 now...

I doubt any of this stuff makes it to the UK so fingers crossed some of it ends up on Netflix here. Still not sure why they'd reboot Battlestar Galactica again, very odd decision when the previous reboot was so well regarded. Interested in Rutherford Falls for Mike Schur, less so for Ed Helms.

What's the pricing strategy? It's free to Comcast subscribers, with one price point for ad-free and another for non-Comcast subscribers. Is that still the case?

There will be conversations about pricing down the road. But the strategy is still the same.

Remember this will be free with an existing TV subscription. IMO the best way to get the most content in this new future is the cheapest TV package possible and then that Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ bundle

1 more streaming service added and there is no savings to having cut cable.

Apple TV+, Netflix, NBCUniversal, Disney+Hulu, Amazon Prime, and HBO.

If you add in sports streaming, there really isn't a deal anymore.

I'm currently at Netflix, Amazon Prime, Crave (HBO in Canada essentially + Showtime/Canadian shows), and DAZN (Sunday ticket essentially + soccer). I plan to get Apple TV+ and Disney+. That makes it about $80~ a month. That's same cost as cable.

I'm not sure putting "cock" in the name of your already-doomed streaming service is a good idea, even when your company's logo is the bird in question.

And this is why I've been waiting for a sale on the digital sets of 30 Rock and Parks and Rec. I love them too much to not have access to them and this doesn't seem like something I'd keep year round. Come on, VUDU, mark that shit down.

Hulu is going to be a much worse value proposition for my household one those NBC shows go away.

Yeah, my gf and I have a Netflix during the summer, Hulu the rest of the year cycle going but this could throw a big wrench in that.

This streaming shit is getting to be worse than cable. I don't even remember how expensive the cable package that allowed me to watch all this was, but this is getting excessive

Fuck. I gotta get this.

Can we have that one giant that'll consolidate all of these services in one package already? Please.
