I mean, probably. But backers deserve a better explanation than this. Why they can't be on the store? The game WILL be on the store at some point, so why they can't offer Steam keys?
I'll straight up say this now and prep for the blowback nightmare
I think Shenmue III is a priority target for Epic and they are going to gun for it
It is a Unreal Engine 4 game
A bittersweet ending, according to Snapshot Games.
Isn't Deep Silver also publishing the game?
Then... I'm already expecting the worst.
Why other devs that did this were able to offer steam keys and be on the store?Doesn't make sense...

That Epic money can't be worth fucking up your rep like that, damn
I feel like backing a game and hoping to get anything other than a console out of it is going to be a liability for a while. This just makes it so I'm even more wary of crowd-funded games.
Seriously though it checks all the boxes
Unreal Engine 4 game (that 5% cut goes poof)
Deep Silver published game (good relationship with Epic)
Anticipated AA level game from a dev with a good pedigree
IT'S A SETUP
Its also published by Deep Silver.I'll straight up say this now and prep for the blowback nightmare

Anyone noticed they're using some site called "transferwise" who you have to send your bank details to to get your money back, with NO alternatives:
Once your refund has been submitted it can take up to 28 business days to process. You will then receive an email from https://transferwise.com/ detailing the amount of the refund. You will be given a link within this email to submit the details for the account where you want the refund deposited. This is an automated process and no alternatives are available.
If you encounter any issues submitting your refund via this form, you can contact us at [email protected] for assistance. This email address will not accept requests to manually process refunds.
Sounds like they're intentionally trying to make it an unpalatable process to go through to mitigate the number of people seeking a refund.
Yeah, was thinking the same....
Yikes... I was considering getting a refund but that puts me off. Mission accomplished I guess....Anyone noticed they're using some site called "transferwise" who you have to send your bank details to to get your money back, with NO alternatives:

They're offering refunds to every backer and anyone who pre-ordered. No one would have stand a chance trying to take them to court. So, for real, can Snapshot Games be sued for deceiving the backers?
Take Two has gone on record talking about wanting their games everywhere so hopefully BL3 is safe.Borderlands 3 and Shemnue rip. They did confirm recently that Biomutant will be on Steam so there is that.
Main barrier I can think of is that I can't imagine KS refunds for $6,333,295 being on the table.Seriously though it checks all the boxes

Stop with this garbage. They lied. They said the game would be given to backers at release with Steam and GOG keysThey didn't lied, steam will be available, just later. You just don't like how they operate, but that doesn't make it wrong. Just don't buy it.
Are you sure you're not the chair? 🤔
Ahh ok, thanks for the clarification.Gollop no longer makes Xcom games, Firaxis does...
...so I don't know what he can do about that to make you happy.

here's their first game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/319050/Chaos_Reborn/That's definitely unfortunate. I'd like to say this is an example of the Epic moneyhat being used on a game that actually isn't already from an established group, but then it did have a successful Kickstarter. I'm certainly hoping that they'll be looking as much or more into stuff that doesn't already have an audience aware of it.
This is the team in question's first game, isn't it? In that case they may not have the whole Steam developer account thing yet. No account, no way to get Steam keys.
I'm guessing they pay fewer fees in transferring the funds to your account (no matter where in the world you may be) through TransferWise. I have a "borderless" account through them that gives me a debit card I can load with multiple currencies. I can at least vouch for them being legitimate. Can't say it's something I've ever seen done like this, though.Anyone noticed they're using some site called "transferwise" who you have to send your bank details to to get your money back, with NO alternatives:

From the pure business perspective: guaranteed money in the bank is of greater value than a higher quantity of theoretical future money. At the end of day even with all this negativity about the Epic store, it's not stopped developers signing up. There has got to be more to it than money.
They will never get another game crowdfunded again. This is going to harm all crowdfunded games going forward.
But what if the money is really good and you don't actually care about the backers though?I feel like publicly funded games should not have time exclusive deals with store fronts.
Fuck, please no. If Psychonauts 2 goes Epic exclusive, I'll be incredibly pissed.People talking about how Shenmue isn't immune now...
Psychonauts 2 was also on Fig so they could also jump to the Epic Store.
I've already lost a few games I was interested in.People talking about how Shenmue isn't immune now...
