So I am asking because can get 1 3080 right now. but I am wondering if I buy it, will I get burned by Nvidia in the next couple of months for a 20gig version or is that actually coming like in 8 months or so from now like the 2080 to 2080 super ( in terms of data gap )

What do you guys think?

What are you going to use that 20GB for? It'll be coming in at a higher price, it really doesn't seem worth it considering how much VRAM games need.

Rumor is the 20gig model is coming December. My plan right now since I wasn't able to get a 3080 is to focus on getting a 3070 while keeping a passive watch is a 3080 does suddenly become available. Makes sense especially since I play at 1440p and 3070 is perfect for that where the 3080 is more for 4k.

I don't need the 20GB for anything. If I could I'd get a 3080 right now.

Buy now, enjoy it. If new 3080 with more vram comes out, sell the 10GB one and buy new one.

I was one of the lucky ones to scoop up a launch 3080 on release. 20gb is just an excessive amount of video ram for gaming. Unless your playing at native 8k, and the 3080 isn't really made for native 8k. And with DLSS, 8k is achievable with much lower requirements, again making the 20gb 3080 kinda irrelevant.

What game will use that much? You can compare 3090 to 3080 and see that more vram is not really unlocking the next level of performance.

20GB won't be a thing for another couple of years. By then there will be newer cards with 20GB and better specs in every category. I have a 3080 FE arriving on Tuesday and will be happy to stick with that for probably 4 years or so.

I'm hoping to grab a 3070 or a 3060 Ti when they drop. Watching this shitshow with the 3080 has me shook though, I don't like my chances.

Nope.
1. The 3080 10GB is within my budget, not going to increase it.
2. 10GB is enough for me since I play games. By the time 20GB will become the standard it would be time to upgrade from the 3080 anyways. Feel the performance will crap out before you're able to use the 20GB for games not counting mods.

20GB won't be a thing for another few years, and by then there will be new cards with 20GB or even more, with better specs all around. I'd just get one of those then. Right now, I'll go for a 3080. I have an FE arriving on Tuesday, so I'll stick with that for 3+ years.

The 4080 will be out before you need a 20GB 3080. Sticking with 10GB.

Most people probably aren't buying $800 videocards every gen mate. 20gb is overkill it 10gb doesn't feel like it's quite enough if you're keeping it for 3+ years.

Eh i am still on the 970 ahaha, i am the last one to buy every gen xD
Not all sliders have to be pushed to the max, there're compromises going along the farther in time you wait, but PC games give the options to achieve that.

Hard to tell because we've yet to see a selection of actual next-gen games benchmarked.
The only thing we do know is that for the current state of gaming 10 GB are enough.

Personally I would decide based on how long I was planning to keep that card.
Just 2 years? Pick the 10 GB version. 4 years, or potentially even for the full console generation span? Wait and pay a little more for 20 GB.

I kinda forced my hand by selling my 2060 due to 3080 prelaunch hype. it all worked out after three weeks of staring at Discord but damn did it suck.

I'm not upgrading right now nor in the foreseeable future, but I would wait for the 20GB version. When you're spending that much on a graphics card, you might as well get the best card in the bracket. I'd rather have more than I need for a few bucks more than risk not having enough to save a few.

Buy for what you need is my motto. So my current need is to drive my new ultrawide monitor and game at ultra at 60fps. Technology advances rapidly and the next big thing for cheaper is always around the corner.

I'm waiting for the 3070, or maybe if they end up making a 3060.

Also I'm not buying any of them at launch because I'm fine with my existing graphics card for now.

I'm going to do my best to get my hands on a 3070 I think, but if not I might just wait a while and see about getting a 3080 and a monitor upgrade.

If they had proper stock I would've gone with a 3080, but now I'm waiting a full year for a new card. At least, if they've fixed this stock problem. I'm not trying again like an idiot, let them fix their issues first.

Bought the 10G (it probably won't ship for another few weeks or more unfortunately) because the 20G is going to be several hundred dollars more expensive and offer me close to zilch benefits before I upgrade it. I generally upgrade my GPU every 2 years or so.

Even if I was planning to keep it for 4-5 years or so, it would be a tough sell, because by the end of that GPU's lifespan I will be already dropping plenty of settings. Using medium textures instead of high textures seems like something not necessarily worth paying $300 AUD to avoid, not when I'm already dropping 5 other settings and the resolution scaler in order to maintain 75+ fps in cutting edge games, which is kinda where I like to be for action games.

this is the correct way to think about it.

By the time more than 10GB shows usefulness, you'll be dropping settings elsewhere in the game to maintain high performance...which will reduce the need for VRAM anyway. To say nothing of how DLSS reduces the need for high VRAM.

I'm getting the 10GB because...I just don't expect it'll be worth the extra money. Here in Aus 3080 10GBs are between $1300-$1600 depending on the model, 3090s seem to be averaging around the $2500+ mark, so, that leaves the sort of $1700-$2000 price range, which, too rich for my blood

The difference between the 3080 and the 3090 isn't enough to justify x2 the price. A card fitting in between is not going to be worth the extra money either.

3080 Super that will ship out from TSMC will beat the 3080 20GB from Samsung without effort.

Waiting on nextgen and their ports before doing anything. 3XXX may prove to not be quite enough to last the entirety of the gen when the ports of non crossgen games start coming in (with their PC exclusive visual candy of course).

I'd rather put the 150+ extra this card is going to cost for no extra performance at all towards the RTX 4000 fund.

I planned to buy a 3080, but with how widely unavailable they are I might be looking down the line again.

Also wonder what AMD is gonna cook up.

Also kinda odd that some of you are clamoring for 20GB, are you playing @ 4K+ Resolutions?

I'm waiting for either the 20GB or the 3080Ti.

I don't change cards like most people here, I buy them to last a long time (like I did with my 1080Ti).

Since I can't afford anything right now I'll wait until I have disposable income and get whatever is available.

I have preordered a 3080 but the store has no estimated delivery date and the longer I have to wait the closer I get to cancel it.
