All true, Steam Music is pretty vestigial in its current form. Getting the actual files is nice though.

I'm more of a The Tempest fan myself, but he sure did a few gooduns.
It gettin updated not that long ago to allow you to only download the music if it is a new/updated depot gives me hope they will do something.

I was kind of hoping it'd get updated so that I could purchase games music without purchasing the game.
There's some games I have 0 interest in owning but I want the music and I use steam enough that I can just buy it off there but they consider it DLC and require owning the game

They can set up DLC as standalone that does not require purchase of the base game IRC, as was the case with Total War Shogun before becoming a Saga game.

Nice! Do you need some PC gaming recomendations? ^^

Yes please! For reference, this is what i'm working with:
Acer Predator Helios 300 laptop
Intel i7-9750H, GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, 16GB DDR4

I just finished A Plague Tale, loved it and was able to hit a solid 60fps at 2560x1600 resolution ;)

Exploration, narrative-driven games. Don't have any preference in regards to first-person, third-person. Really enjoyed Tacoma and A Plague Tale, looking for more stuff like that.
Of the top of my head, I would say Disco Elyssium and Heavens Vault are great games that fit those terms. There is also Elsinore which Uzzy is playing right now.

I just managed to finish Disco Elysium before 2019 ended. What a way to end the year. Even with all of its high-profile releases, 2020 is going to be dull by comparison.

I think either the game, my cop, or I got a bit confused though, because these were not achievements I expected to get on the same playthrough:

i know a lot of people are still mad about the PC version being on a delay compared to console, but honestly January actually doesn't seem like a terrible time for this to hit, I think it's definitely the lightest month in terms of releases month in over a year, as even last January had a number of big releases. The only big release in Jan this year is basically that Dragonball game, and although that'll probably sell regardless IMO it still seems doubtful if it'll rise above the typical anime licensed game stuff like your Naruto arena fighters and One Piece musou games.
yeah a lot of people were/are mad about having to wait so long. We had to wait for the main game, but in the end it was well worth it. Yeah, January does seem like a right time for this to release. I think they said they were also going to speed up the staggering of content even more this time around (Feb we get Rajang and March will be the second big update). I'm not really in a rush as I took a break from MHW and need to work out the rust, etc.

january has only just begun and i never want to see snow again

at least in september ive mostly forgotten the many feet of the previous winter
Been a strange winter here so far (in Toronto at least), not much snow and the weather has been going up and down a lot. Going to try survive winter playing lots of MHW and Red Dead 2 (mainly the RDO stuff) with whoever I can online.

Enjoy ! Iceborne pretty much fixed most of my major issue with vanilla World.
Glad to hear that, I heard things here and there about some of the changes and improvements, so I really am looking forward to seeing them in game.

You remind me that I got Monster Hunter World. I struggled to get into it so I set it aside.
I struggled as well, this being my first entry into the MH series. Learned a few of the monster moves/cues to be able to survive long enough (oh man all the carting along the way, lol) and then got hooked to the game.

Spent 45 mins or so with Kind Words. What a beautiful piece of art. I can see myself opening that up every day for sure. Help others, maybe even help myself. <3

Are there any stealth action games in the vein of Shadow of Mordor(/War)?
Depends on whether tou want an actual proper stealth game
Or if u seek an action game with stealth elements.

For the former youve got
Styx series
Dishonored
Deus Ex HR and Mankind Divided
Hitman 1 and 2

For the latter
Assassin's creed which the mordor series bases its gameplay style on.

I meaning to mention. Before the year ended, I finally finished Dishonored Death of the Outsider.

I chose to kill the outsider because...its in the title, duh!

Anyone else use sharpening through Nvidia / AMD software? I plugged a RX 470-powered PC into a 4k OLED earlier and played at 1440p with default sharpening, and it actually seemed pretty good enough for me! It really makes things look a lot more clear, and made it playable on a budget ~£100 GPU.

Can't help but feel like AMD sharpening is more effective / less intrusive than Nvidia sharpening.

Happy new year!

So I got a bunch of Steam gift cards from my dad. Greedfall is still on sale for a few hours (not a huge discount, but still). I do have other games to play, but one of them is currently a bit underwhelming and the other is a like, 56,000 hours long JRPG and that's quite daunting...

I've had my eyes on Greedfall for a while. But I am also wary of all the Bioware comparisons since I don't like Bioware games much. But I also hear I can just ignore the real-time-with-pause bullshit and play it as an action-RPG. I didn't actually hate the combat in Bound by Flame, so I presume it's at least equally decent. And unlike BbF I presume this game isn't a dumpster fire in terms of writing, at least.

Should I take the plunge?

You can always try it for 1 hour and 59 minutes and 59 seconds and refund it if it's ass

Or compromise and get
https://store.steampowered.com/app/411300/ELEX/ instead

Greedfall is more janky Witcher 2 than Bioware, like every one of Spiders games. It also isn't real time with pause, it's just an action RPG as a base.

I bounced off it eventually. It's a step up for Spiders, and easily their best game, but that doesn't mean much. They don't do anything particularly well. Characters stink, writing stinks (but yes, better than bound by flame), some of the atmosphere and enemy designs are good, combat is passable at best, etc.

It's one of my favourite games of the past year. It's not perfect, because the enemy variety isn't amazing (though still better than Bound by Flame), and some of its quests can get a bit "go there, and then to a different place, and then here again, and then there again" but overall it's easily Spiders' best game yet, sticking largely to the same formula as their other RPGs ever since Mars: War logs. The setting and the premise of being a diplomat first and foremost are interesting, the combat isn't particularly deep, but still felt satisfying (I did a gun and sword build and I loved unloading my repeater flintlocks into enemies, but I also hear magic builds can get pretty OP). And probably most important- nearly every quest (except for the few explicitly marked as "tasks" and 2 collection quests) all feed back to the main story and your relationships either with the companions or the main factions. There is very little actual "filler" content relative to the overall quest design.

I legit hope that's not accurate because I legit hate TW2 👀

I would say the general writing and a surprisingly good depiction of the evils of colonialism while not stepping into stereotypes made it quite good on that regard.

But yeah, some of the sidequests are horrible and there are some drag moments.

I tried it at 1080p with a 580 in a few games and i didn't like it at all, everything becomes more aliased and it just looks weird in general, i think it is because of the low the resolution that i am using it at because i have heard that it doesn't work that well at low resolutions.

You can learn riposte("counter") and it's timing based on bladed weapons, like the daggers in Bound by Flame.
Traps are back, and there's different types (explosive, magic, poison) damage types- different enemies are vulnerable to different types.

All enemies (and allies. And you) have an armour value that reduces the HP damage they take, until you can "shatter" the armour. A few of the Guardian bosses have ridiculous amount of this armour and I struggled with those- granted, I didn't try using heavy 2-handed weapons like mauls, clubs or makes, because I don't like 2 handed weapons in general- I find them too slow for my reflexes, and I'd rather keep chipping away at enemy with a quick poisoned blade, but that's just me. Guns can do MASSIVE damage though, which is always fun to watch.

There's both block and a dodge-roll, and it's pretty forgiving. You build up a "focus" meter in combat that can allow you to a "charged", un-blockable attack to do HP damage- but you can also miss and swing at air with it, which is less fun. No stamina bar, so you can keep blocking, but some attacks are un-blockable.

There isn't much you can do in terms of your companions in combat, besides telling them general things like " be more defensive" or "be more aggressive". You CAN however give them equipment (and take theirs away to use yourself) and they level up, though you can't direct how they allocate their skills. Oh, and you can heal them, if you know how to. Or give them healing items so that they heal themselves.

Generally, combat's good against humans or small numbers of strong monsters. But more generic stuff like large groups of wolves or bears- not so much, especially early on. A lot of the times you can thin out their number by stealth, though.

Thanks for the detailed info. That sounds solid enough.

I bought it, apparently I got a $6.50 CAD coupon (by redeeming my gift card, I guess) with those Festivity tokens or whatever too, so that's a decent price in the end.

GreedFall doesn't give any of that sort of control over companions.

You can't influence their behavior, and you can't heal them (beyond the upgrades that make your own spells also affect the party at an absurdly diminished rate). They can't use items either.

All you do is equip them with the best stuff they can wear. Nothing else is exposed to the player.

So now they have (well I haven't been paying attention, it's probably old) an Amazon Games launcher (they explicitly link it when redeeming games), which is used to launch Twitch Prime free games. The problem is that only contains about 15% of the games I've claimed, all of which however show up on the Twitch launcher. So dumb. So fucking dumb.

I forgot that Steam will show you how much you have spent total, and having accidently clicked on "External Funds Used", I'm a bit taken back that with my recent purchase, I have now spent just a little over $2000 CAD since I started the account 12 years (and 8 days) ago.

Orange Box is one hell of a gateway drug

It has been worth it though, especially getting gifts and sending them to people. So many copies of Super House of Dead Ninjas sent over the years.

My library doesn't even show up in the Twitch app anymore, I should probably look into that.

I think it tends to work better at higher resolutions, yeah. I tried Nvidia sharpening at 900p on a 1080p monitor and found it too noticeably not native resolution. Yet somehow 1440p + AMD sharpening seemed decent enough for me.

I think I've finally reached the point in MHW where I'm starting to see the edges of the grind.

So... I have to hunt tempered elder dragons, and hope they drop the correct Hero's Streamstone for the weapon (there are 14 different weapons) you want (which can hold up to 3 stones). I have one, and it's an axe type (haven't used an axe yet, lol).

We're talking having to kill thousands of these things to get your gear maxed out. lol. Anyway, still having fun.

Part of me feels like MHW needs a trade system or something.

If you're going to play Iceborne, you shouldn't worry about these at this point — from what i heard they aren't used for upgrading Master Rank weapons.
