RDR2 saved from permanent exclusivity.

That last sentence is a quintessential Sweeneyism. There is no distinction to be made between "You can distribute the PC version of your game on EGS but not Steam" and "You can distribute the PC version of your game only on EGS" as the intent is the same: to have the game release on EGS in lieu of Steam. An EGS exclusivity deal is, by its very nature, a "You can choose any colour as long as it's black" situation, and his asinine semantics aren't fooling anybody.

Operencia has no resolution options through windows store(gamepass)tsk tsk but uses native resolution at least.

Voice acting is so bad lol but the presentation is gorgeous.

Its reaching a point where i think i may just clear a bit of my backlog. Look at rebuilding my old game collection

I just feel like something has slipped away in the last few years and i can't quite put my finger on it. Everything has gotten so angry. Consumers have become the enemy somewhere along the way.

It's kind of hit a point where i don't feel welcome in a hobby that i have enjoyed for 37 years.

Randy comparing Gearbox with beaten women because of review bombing. We're reaching new lows every single.

On the other hand, this EGS shitshow is simply exposing what some of us knew all along.

Developers, publishers and videogame "journalists" are not your friends. They don't care about you, only your money. That's why review bombing has been so effective. It hurts their bottom line.

That's fine though, I get it, we all got to eat. But honestly, I've never seen people treat their audiences with this much disdain before, and I'm in the publishing business (which is infamous for treating customers and fans like dirt)

"victim blaming" seriously? With each day there's more and more EGS shit that's making me lose my sanity.

Randy's a total clown.

I don't endorse review bombing, but I also don't see what the alternative is in this situation. It's not like people can just not buy the game as they've effectively already done that for players. Ignoring the game when it comes to Steam will just give publishers a further reason to avoid Steam because the game doesn't sell well enough.

What do people do when a company does something shitty? A lot of the times they protest outside stores, because it generally impacts sales and gets the companies attention. I don't see any physical stores for Gearbox/2K, so how else are people suppose to voice their frustrations?

So Randys response to this is to consider not putting games on steam. Because 0.2% of your audience is upset (based on say 2,000,000 sales but possibly more than that).

Sound business decision.

What he's actually doing is throwing his hands in the air and screaming "I'm drowning!" in hopes that Sweeney or Galyonkin will throw him a life ring. He's as transparent as a glass panel.

As much as I love Borderlands 2 and all the DLC, I may just fucking never buy 3 thanks to Pitchford and the EGS exclusivity. In fact, I am like 75% sure of that right now.

When Randy has a history of throwing people under the bus, or blaming others, its a red flag. Thats not to mention the child pornography and other legal issues he's involved in.

I have been advocating for customers treating developers as businessmen first for close to a decade now. I understand it is human nature to deeply appreciate someone who makes something you enjoy but we should all never forget that these people will always put their own interests first. We should be doing the same.

Judgement and Yakuza 6 seem like no brainers for PC releases. I'm not so sure about 3, 4 and 5's ports.

Though one of the strengths of the PC platform is we typically get an insane swath of ports, from the big remakes to those that are barely changed to mobile ports, while some of those typically tend to be considered not viable for a HD console. Leads to some shitty experiences but is nice to have the option at all.

So, what's the scoop on Darkside of gaming? Are they a good source for gaming news?

Issue isn't them, it's if the leaker on 4chan is for real. He has a name of BL3lkr so I assume he is (or is claiming to be) the Borderlands 3 leaker, and IIRC most of what they had was real.

How is it that I, a goober who has been running around New York all week and in rain today, found this Polygon article first

https://www.polygon.com/platform/amp/2019/4/5/18295833/epic-games-store-controversy-explained

because we don't read Media outlets anymore, so that we can't vilify them ;)

PS: I didn't get a response to my concerns on the wording :(
(I Pm'ed the admins)
We are not in an 1984 authoritarian dystopia in which we use "Villifying media outlet" unironically. Right?

Because it doesnt sound like a good article. I love how the narrative that the first problem with EGS is "China" (y'know, to make it sound racist) and second problem is "it's a spyware".

I think we had a shiton of lenghty threads and debates to know that these were the least of our concerns.

And for the exclusive part well "It's always been the case in the industry, deal with it". I love the ongoing thinking in the industry that, if something is bad deal with it you cant change it.

I actually had this happen many times with Dark Souls. Never found out why it happened but a quick reboot usually solved the issue.

Not gonna lie, I used it to cheese a few enemies lol.

No no, my question was more about in general. Is Darkside of Gaming a good place to read gaming news?

They are solid. A little slow so they feel more like a news aggregator often, but they also cover a lot of niche stuff some sites don't bother with, like emulator progress / updates.

I don't visit a lot just because I don't care for the site's layout. Feels like it takes forever to browse.

Jesus fucking hallelujah someone's finally asked it:

Rob
@retroremakes
I've seen so many takes of the difference for gamers is just a launcher but hold on, what about us? You know, the devs not getting paid off here. Is the difference for *us* "just a launcher" now? Has that been fixed?

Now if only the fucking gaming media would pick this point up.

To be honest, I prefer his post about curation where he talked about how it was devs the ones that pushed Valve to have a much more open platform and how it was their fault that Steam is now inundated with games, and how Epic tactic is just kill the devs to not have the "indieapocalipse" by not having them in the store.

Much more hard hitting.

These tweets are OK too, dont get me wrong, just think the other ones were better.

Yeah, everything he's said about Steam/Epic has actually been great, and it's very disappointing that very little has been picked-up and/or elaborated on either by the media or other devs. It's not like he's a new guy coming out with hot-takes - he's been criticising Steam/Valve and making games for years now.
