With Ryzen 3 series coming out in a few short days i think this is a good time to look back on all the cpus we ever owned. :)

1. i7 4770k -2013-2015
2.i7 6700k-2015-present
And hopefully in the next couple days either a 3900x,3800x or 3700x for my next build.
What is your timeline? :)

First CPU was an i7 6700K with a GTX 970.

Then I went for a Ryzen 2700X and a GTX 1080.

Moving to an i9 9900K and RTX 2080 Ti next week. Can't wait.

I think I'm good for a while. That paired with my RTX 2080 has been more than enough, especially after I overclocked it.

Alright let's go then! I'm not gonna list my work MacBooks because those don't count
  1. 2004 - Athlon 64 2800 (I played World of Warcraft on this beast! THANK YOU JIM KELLER)
  2. 2006 - Core 2 Duo E6320
  3. 2009 - i5-750 (8 M cache, 2.67 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
  4. 2011 - i5 2500k 6M Cache, up to 3.70 GHz
  5. 2018 - i7 8700k 12M Cache, up to 4.70 GHz
This is when I started building computers on my own! Each CPU is each build that is still at my house actually...

Don't remember my initial AMD, it was an Athlon, and part of a "barebones kit" I got for my first custom-made rig

-prior to that, during Uni and Law School I had 2 Toshiba Satellite , those had Intel chips.

My current CPU is AMD FX 8350, waiting for the new Ryzen chips to be out to see what I should upgrade to.

Started with an i5 4670k in 2013, which lasted me until early 2018 when I switched to an 8400. Onky had that for about year though and then I got an 8700k, which i expect to last for a few years provided these next gen consoles don't shake things up too much on the CPU front.

i5 3550(?) 2012-2017
i7 6700K 2017-now

First one was a 386 with 16Mhz
In 1997 I got a Pentium 166

Don't remember the other stuff. I think I had a Duron with 800 Mhz in like 2001 and also a Barton some time after that

2003: Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz
2007: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
2014: intel core i7 5930k - 3.5ghz - 4.1 turbo

Don't know if a upgrade next gen is right away necessary, seeing how Moore's law turned out. Feels like i didn't utilized my current CPU proper this gen.

Also with a 4770k today. It's been my main bottleneck since I picked up a 1080ti.

It's just when you throw in a new mobo, ram, etc. it needs to be a pretty big bottleneck for me to care. That being said, soon.

5. i7 4930K
6. i7 6700K

Not nearly as many as I expected, actually.

And only one AMD.

Motorola 68000 (8Mhz) - Mac Plus and Classic both had the same processor, I believe
PowerPC 601 (60) - PowerMac 6100, the Mac with the best startup sound
Pentium-S 90
Celeron 300A
Pentium III 866
Core Duo T2700
X2-7750
i5-2410M
3570K
7700K

Of all the ones in my list I think the Pentium III lasted me the longest - not necessarily out of choice, but I don't have exact timelines for the earlier stuff.

I started with a 2500k in 2012, and upgraded not long after Dark Souls 3 came out which I think was 2016 because that game was really heavy on the CPU and the 2500k was bottlenecking me.

I'm still using the 6700k obviously and the only games that it has bottlenecked me in so far are Assassin's creed games. Both Odyssey and Origins.

I'd probably upgrade to a Ryzen 3700 if I had the money but I think I can wait out one more year on my 6700k. I'm definitely going AMD next, though. I'm salty about Intel and their fucking security exploit bullshit.

Second gaming PC in 2013: i5 2500k (overclocked)

My third one will be built after the PS5 comes out. I stretch out my rigs for a loooong time, only switching the graphic cards, adding RAM, etc. on occasion as allowed.

A decent chunk of this is from memory, and I don't have detailed specs to hand:

Z80
6502
386
486
486-DX4
Pentium 100
Pentium 2-400
6510 (I got a bit of disposable income... and discovered car boot sales!)
Motorola 68k
[I really don't remember what came next. I think it was some breed of Athlon]
Intel i5 (desktop)
Intel i7 (laptop)

(I'm using both the last two concurrently; laptop is plugged into the telly, the desktop (which is broadly more powerful) upstairs in my room)

The ones I remember are the Q6600 from 2009 to 2012, when I got an i5 3570K, and I'm still using that one.

I think I had a Pentium 4 at one point, but I'm not entirely sure. 2009 was the first PC I got with my own money, which is why it's the first one I actually remember the specs.

I'd still be using my 3570K if the mobo hadn't died.

My memory is really hazy on what was the first ever CPU I've had, it was a hands me down PC with 256MB of RAM.
But the second was a Pentium 4. Not quite sure of the model, my guess is that it was a Northwood of some sort.
Next was a Core 2 Duo E6320. Barely used it though, because about a year and a half later I had money and bought me an i7 920 rig (which my dad still uses to this day).
This is when my upgrades REALLY slowed down. I bought a 2500K, but then I sold that PC because I had to move, and ever since I've stuck with a 3570K.

I'm gonna build me my first ever AMD build sometime this year, and I'm very excited!
