I have been on 1440p since 2008 as the jump in quality is tremendous over 1080p, plus anyone buying a modern GPU for a 1080p monitor is most likely not running it at 100% capacity and is wasting the potential that such modern GPUs bring.
We're in 2021, I seriously can't help but facepalm when someone tells me they are still on 1080p and like to bring out the PC master race card.
Pushing high framerates at 1080p is a thing.

You should also grow up and stop saying PC master race.

1440 @165Hz

4K monitors with higher refresh rates are a significant bump in price and I'd feel the need to get a top of the line card (3080+) to get the performance I'm used to.

The 3070 I have now bodies everything at 1440p. I'm half tempted to move to a 3080 just so I can hit those triple digit frames in more games

What does growing up have to do with calling it Pc master race? Maybe you should actually grow up instead of having to reply this way for something as irrelevant as this.

Also, I have an RTX 3070 and playing Overwatch at 1080p I have an fps of over 240gps at all times yet my GPU is barely above 35-40% used and I barely notice a difference from upgrading from my GTX 1080; the new cards are definitely made for pushing higher res as I find anything I throw at it at 1080p is bottlenecking my CPU a lot more than my GPU.

Do you have a 240Hz monitor though? I do and it's a great reason to push frames at 1080p. I'm probably not upgrading my gaming resolution until ultra high framerates are trivial at 1440p.

And we don't like PC Master Race being used on the forum, so kindly stop doing it, thanks. It's poor rhetoric that ushers nothing but hostility.

Actually recently made the jump from a 4k60 28' monitor to a 1080p280 27' monitor and kinda having second thoughts after playing so far and may replace for a 1440p/144hz Panel. I think 1440p/144hz seems to be the sweet spot for not compromising too much resolution for high framerate but I do have my PC hooked up to my C9 for couch gaming as well where I could get that high fidelity/framerate combo so still on the fence about it.

I switch between:

34" 3440 x 1440 @ 75hz
32" 2560 x 1440 @ 120hz

Depends on the game and if I am doing work at the same time.

Acer Predator X27, 4K 120hz with HDR1000 and local dimming. I've had it for a bit over a year.

Its amazing, but I sometimes wish I stayed at 1440p 144hz. 4K is really hard to run, especially at high framerates, so I've ended up spending absurd amounts on a GPU to power this display. Got a 2080ti last year for $1K, sold it and upgraded to a 3080 for $800 in December.

I'm actually thinking about grabbing a 1440p 144hz second monitor to see if I'd actually prefer going back.

ten eighty pee is all i need

well, for now. it's a 240hz monitor and it was free, so i'm not gonna complain. i'll definitely go 1440 at some point in the future because it's a convenient resolution for scaling up lower resolutions as well. don't see myself making the jump to 4k for at least another 5+ years because it has too much drawback and at the size of monitors i use would be completely pointless.

1080p, I mean it's a laptop, I don't have much options lol. But it is 144hz screen so I'll take that over 4K 60Hz now that I have seen the light.

1080p at 144hz

Framerate > Resolution

and it's not like I'm going to be able to get a 3070 anytime soon to play new games at 144hz anyway

Just upgraded today from 1080P/144Hz to 3440*1440/144Hz. And now I'm annoyed that my 5700 XT is struggling in Cyberpunk.

playing on my tv at 1080p... i could go higher but my tv only support 120hz with 1080p resolution, and since i'm far from my tv it's honestly more than enough

a third of the forum is on that 1080 or lower life. how the hell. you better be on 240 Hz in that case

1440p 165 Hz primary monitor with a 4k 60 Hz for nice things to look at + Series X/Switch

34 inch Ultrawide 3440x1440p is my primary display, not a choice in the poll so I went with 1440p.

I also have a 2ndary 43 inch 4k TV I use as a 2ndary monitor and is also hooked up to my PS4 Pro (will be a PS5 once GoW comes out).

1080p - I bought a new PC at the start of 2020 with a 2060 super and used my 4k60 TV for a year.
In Nov last year decided to try out 144hz and went back and forth between a 1080p and 1440p Monitor.
Went with a 24" 1080p144hz cheap but good Asus Monitor because:

- Based on what my card can do, basically a 1080p beast
- Not going to invest in anything for at least 2 more years
- I play a bunch of everything, from MP games to AAA story rich
- I can plug it into my TV if I want 1440 or 4k, but since I got it I have stayed with the monitor, 144hz is really great

So far I think it was wise to go with a 24" since it is 1080p for a better ppi and I really can't complain, obviously 1440p is the sweet spot but I am really happy, as my games run great.

Dual 27" 1080p's for going on 6+ years now.

I JUST set aside $1000 from a work bonus to buy two new monitors. Either 27" 4K or 32" 1440p depending on what I can find. It's REALLY hard to find the best monitor for my current PC lol, so many options.

Just recently upgraded to 4K, I'm not sure if it's the amount of FFXIV I've been playing or what but I swear the eyestrain is worse

This was the secret best resolution over the last couple of gens. I still have my 16:10 LG hooked up as a secondary.
There was a span of years where 1680x1050 was the best resolution for gaming laptop screens. Best balance all around for PPI and screen real estate, while still being manageable for your GPU. Then the manufacturers abandoned 16:10 (because of the TV industry, ffffff) and started transitioning to the 16:9 1600x900 almost overnight. What a tough sell that was.

There was much gnashing of teeth and we cried as we silently embraced 1080p.

Could be the UI scaling. Is it far smaller at 4K?

Still on 1080p/144z/Gsync. I have a secondary 1600p/60Hz monitor I use for titles where I want the increased resolution.

Would like to upgrade, but I'm waiting at least til post pandemic to consider it because I don't know what my setup will look like after that.
