I'm rocking a i7-3930k right now with a GTX980Ti, so my next upgrade is going to cost a pretty penny since I want to upgrade my CPU, and that will require new Mobo and RAM.
I'm going to wait until Intel drops their 10nm CPUs and see how they stack up against the new 12 core Ryzen that was announced, if no significant strides in IPC are made and if the prices still remain absurdly high, I'll just go with the Ryzen processor. After that it's going to be a 3080Ti, whenever that releases.

i8700k@4,9Ghz and GTX1070Ti with +200mhz OC. My Next Upgrade will take a while, considering my PC will be capable of running most nextgen PS5/Xbox2 games atleast at the same output for the coming years.

There are also not really many interesting upgrades available, the next big Radeon card will be just as fast or slow as a 1080Ti/GTX2070 and that's not really much and considering the insane pricing of the 2080Ti with only 25-30% more performance I can wait quite a while.

There has to be a big jump in GPU power at a reasonable price of up to 500 Bucks for me to upgrade and I feel like it will take up to 3 years for that to happen. I fear I will have to bear with a 1080p resolution for Cyberpunk and 60fps, maybe I bump it up to 1440p and 50 or 30FPS if the aliasing is a problem, like it was with the Witcher 3 back then.

I'm currently pretty happy with my rig, the next upgrade will come as soon as we know Cyberpunk 2077 requirements and performance information.

Definitely upgrading to the newest series of RTX cards when the game comes out.

This is the thread I need!

What all do I need to push 4k 60? I'm thinking of switching to amd and I'm at that point where I'm ready to buy parts

Is it really worth waiting for the next year's 7nm Ampere cards I wonder, will it have massively reduced TDP or something

RTX 2060 seems good enough

I got a slightly budget build I put together a few months ago. I'll likely upgrade my CPU and GPU if need be. If I can't run Cyberpunk at 1440p High/Ultra on the 2060, I'll be selling and buying one of the Supers or 3000 series. Hoping I don't have to go that route though.

Well by and large my PC is now 6 years old, which I put together when the Haswell line released. The exception being the GPU which I upgraded to a 1060 a couple years ago. Handles 1080p gaming perfectly well, so my plan is to follow a similar path to what I did last time(i.e. new build around the release of the next consoles). Basically I will rebuild sometime between 2020 and 2021. With Cyberpunk and next gen around the corner, along with Intel entering the GPU market next year, I imagine it will be a worthwhile time to upgrade.

Also gives me some leeway to see what Sony has in store for the PS5 launch.

Affordable 8k and mature and reliable ray trace tech or true next gen VR head sets come out. Which ever comes first.

Gonna get the 3700X next month and a new GPU next year most likely. Might get a bigger SSD later this year.

I upgraded my cpu to a mid range this winter and that's going to hold me for the forseeable future. Probably until th end of time since I said I wont upgrade until Warcraft 4 comes around and it probably never will so :P

I've got a 1080, which is good for most things, but has never been great in 4k for graphically heavy games. I'd like to not sweat 4k.

That said, I'll be waiting until some time next year to get a new graphics card. RTX isn't selling me on anything (Especially when 4k often has to be sacrificed for it), so I'll wait until either that matures or it stops being the core selling point of new cards. I'm thinking next summer or maybe around the new console launches.

i7-7700K with a 1070
Next upgrade would be the GPU because I think/hope that the CPU will last for a long time (My 2500K lasted a gen and a half)

Don't think I'll upgrade yet for a RT GPU, maybe wait for 2nd gen of RTX cards

The answer is as always "when my computer is feeling sluggish and I can't play things on max 1440p anymore" and "the parts that are bottlenecking me".

That being said I should probably upgrade my power supply. I don't feel the need to jump up from my 2080/9900k yet so it should be a little while.

I may finally replace my monitor, which is a high-end CRT.

Probably not, though.

2500k / 660Ti right now... hopefully by August or September it will be 3800x / 2080 Super.

I'm going to wait on benchmarks but that's what I'm waiting for.

I'll be upping a lot of specs; 16GB to 32GB RAM, 1080p to 1440p.

Waiting for some normalcy with graphics card prices (Ha!); otherwise looking to see if more companies make small-form high-end graphics cards. I'm done with dealing with full and medium tower PCs. My back will thank me.

3800x (or 3700x if it turns out the former's not worth it)
Not sure about the gpu since mid-range cards are grossly overpriced on both sides now. I'll just wait and see if the 5700 or 2060 get their prices adjusted, I might keep my current gpu for a little while on my new system. The gpu market is pretty disgusting atm.

Currently on a 2500k + RX470.

I am several years away from an upgrade.

My 6700K and 1070 will remain relevant for a while yet. Once I can get a ~2x performance boost + ray tracing for around the same $500 CAD I payed for my 1070, I might budge. Right now, only a 2080 Ti would roughly double my GTX 1070, and for 3x the price I paid for my 1070 3 years ago. An upgrade is just not worth it at this point.

If upgrading remains cost prohibitive, I might start making use of streaming services (i.e. Stadia) to tide me over for the games that demand it.

NVidia needs to get its head out of its ass. GPUs are ridiculously expensive today.

I plan to build a new PC from scratch. I'm still rocking the the z77 platform. I plan to move to the x570 platform with a Ryzen 3900X. The larger issue now is deciding whether to buy a new graphics card this year or wait. I'm currently rocking a GTX 1080. The card that's a meaningful jump in performance to me is the 2080Ti, but I can't justify paying over $1300 for a GPU that's priced that high purely because of lack of competition. I'll probably keep my 1080 until the RTX 3000 series hits.

I'm curious as to way AMD doesn't create a big RDNA1 gpu that competes with the 2080Ti for a lower price ($800 - $900)? I feel like the lack of "features" is easier to justify at the high-end when you get 2080Ti level rasterization performance at a much lower price, versus the mid-range. Maybe 7nm costs prevent this?

Still rocking an i5 4460 and R9 390. Going to try and do my best to hold off till the next gen consoles come out. But I could see myself caving for Ryzen 3800X and Vega 56....

Not upgrading until we there are games I want to play that target next-gen console specs (and won't run acceptably on my 4770k/RX570).

Might not even upgrade then if streaming picks up.

2020 or 2021 should be good years to upgrade, especially if you want something that can comfortably outpace Scarlett/PS5. Currently have an RX 570 and Ryzen 1600
Agreed. I don't think now is a good time to upgrade. If you wait until after the next gen consoles come out, you will get better and cheaper tech than what is available now, and your will also have a lot more games that are making the most of the technology.
My pc was built in 2010,the cpu was upgraded from 930->xeon55670 and the gpu has been upgraded a couple of times. It still plays games on high settings 2560 1440p which is an amazing run, but i think once it has cleared 10yrs,i may look at an entire new rig!
My first spending priority will be the ps5 and a new tv.

My plan is a Ryzen 3000 series with 8 core or more, 32 GB of ram, 1 TB NVME SSD, a solid MB this year and a gpu upgrade next year. This is from a 2500k, 16GB RAM, ok MB, 250 GB sata SSD and a 1070 GTX. This is in preparation for Cyberpunk 2077, Squadron 42 (Star Citizen) and next-gen games.

Currently have:

7700k
Rtx 2080
16gb ddr4 3000 MHz

I went big on an Acer X27, 4k 144hz gsync hdr1000 monitor. The 2080 does pretty well at 4k 60fps, but I bought this monitor to future proof myself in a sense so I'll be looking to upgrade the GPU whenever the next Nvidia series drops.

Not sure about the CPU, I've never had an amd system but I'll see how their new platform does. I'm at 4.5 GHz on all 4 cores of my 7700k with with hyper threading, I'm not sure if I will necessarily need to upgrade the CPU with my next GPU purchase- ideally I'll ride it out as long as I can.

Edit: what does everyone think. Does the 7700k need an upgrade in the near future?

As soon as HDMI 2.1 is supported and tested by early adopters I'm making a new build. Best CPU in gaming benchmarks on the day I place my order, best GPU that is not priced ridiculously (i.e not a Titan).

Right now, I'm rocking an i7-4790K overclocked to 4.5GHz, 16 GB of 2400MHz RAM and a GTX 970. Out of those parts I feel that the GPU will be replaced first. I can't even hit 1080p60 on some games. And I had a 2080 in my system for testing and having the resolution upgrade while at the same time getting better framerates floored me. Battlefield V at 4k60 max setting settled it for me.

If possible, I guess whatever GPUs end up coming out next year. Probably whatever Nvidia's next lineup is gonna be. That's gonna be the 30 series right? Or is SUPER 20 series going to be it?

Currently pondering if I should upgrade my 4670k and 8gb ddr3.

That's exactly what I have now, with a 1070. I plan to try to just upgrade everything next year but I guess we'll see.

Here still with my "old rig" 8700K 5.0 ghz + EVGA 1080 Ti SC 2 + Dell 2716DG 144hz 1440p and no need to upgrade yet but if the new EVGA 2080 TI Super blows my mind, then i will jump!

2700X, 1080ti... I don't see any reason to upgrade in the immediate future, but I might swap out the 2700X for a 3900X. I've been thinking about it but haven't decided.

Otherwise, I'll be perfectly fine for another couple years and will probably upgrade the CPU + GPU + Mobo + RAM at that time.

I'm wondering if I should get a new GPU or do a new build entirely. I built mine in 2016 with an i5 6600K and GTX 1070. If I were to upgrade to next year's Nvidia '80 card, would I be overly bottlenecked? My monitor is 144hz so I want to get good framerates.

For the first time in years...I don't know.

I am perfectly content with my current rig. Only the shift to next-gen consoles and their concurrent lift of minimum/recommended PC specs will get me to upgrade now.

Planning on upgrading my 1800x with a 3900x and an NVME. Then shift my 1800x to my streaming PC, get rid of the mini-itx board in it since I have no more slots. The GTX 1080 Ti in it stole my open slot for my capture card.

Ryzen 5 2600 + Vega 56, so I am fine most likely until the start of next-gen. Will likely wait for Ray-Tracing to be more mainline and buy a GPU that beats the next-gen consoles.

I'm a 9900k, 32GB 3600 RAM, 4k+HDR+Gsync, 2080TI, all SSD drives (one nvme , 2 data).

There's really nothing for me to upgrade tbh, outside of the GPU for stronger ray tracing performance. I can play with ray tracing on at 4k but obviously this is super demanding, even on a 2080ti. 1440p is fine though. But I want that performance at 4k, so I'll be upgrading every gpu cycle until we get there.

I currently have a liquid-cooled 4790K, 980 Ti, 27" Dell 1440p 144Hz G-Sync, and 43" 4K TV. I've realized over the years that I might play maybe one or two high-demand PC games a year, so I haven't felt much of a drive to upgrade. If I do, it will likely be a better/faster SSD solution, or moving to replace the remaining traditional drives in my PC with SSDs. Beyond that, maybe a new case. Have an Phanteks Enthoo Pro, but it likes to vibrate now and again, and just kinda feels/looks cheap. I like my keyboard (Corsair Strafe RGB MX Silent) and love my mouse (Steelseries Sensei 310 ambi). No plans to upgrade there. I'll probably buy one of the next-gen consoles before I do anything major on my PC.

Currently i5 7500 and 1060 6GB, so not sure when / what to upgrade. I will get a PS5 anyway so, just whatever I need to compliment that on PC. Hopefully I can ride this out for another year or two first as I only game at 1080P and 60FPS.
