It's not as much as I'd hoped he'd face, but given that he's less than a month from his 70th birthday, a sentence like this means he runs a good chance of seeing out his days behind bars. Good, and fuck him.

The next step will be to see whether Trump comes through with the pardon, then what the counter move will be on other charges that Trump can't pardon...

The standalone sentence in the second hearing seem adequate, but having two and a half years of it be served concurrent kinda ruins the whole thing.
Any other average dude would have been locked up for way more than this.

The example this sets is rotten, what does Roger Stone (Or anyone else) have to fear by holding out or antagonising the process? These rulings compromise the very idea of justice.

White collar crimes seem to be the perfect opportunity for judges to make an example of excessive sentencing. How fortunate for those who have been doing it all their life but simply were caught with their hand in the cookie jar this one time.

He faced 10 years, and got less than four, despite being locked up for breaking the law when violating his plea deal. What the hell!?

~7.5 years is not insubstantial for the crimes committed, especially for someone who is almost 70 years old.
Considering that prosecutors recommended 19 years for the first sentence alone and he only got less than 4 for that, it's pretty insubstantial for the crimes committed.

"I really don't to have to this" - Judge complaining about doing their job.

EDIT - If there were state charges against Manafort, I can't image that would be any more than 2 years tops. This is only based on my gut feeling mind you but when the law talks about being tough on someone, it's only when they're involved in drugs.

The second ruling is what it is, it's really the first ruling that is a massive softball. An absolute outlier of guidelines.

He's going to have a healthy glow from polonium when he gets out.

Most likely in a body bag.

Didn't he request for his existing time in jail to be counted against his sentenced serving time? Was that rejected?

It must feel good to be a rich white man. Do crime after crime, do crime while in jail for doing crime and only get probably 6-7 years in a luxury prison for rich people. He's probably safer there than overseas where he might get a plutonium sandwich and accidently fall out a window.

This second ruling is much better. Still pissed about the first, but at least now he has a chance of living out rest of his days behind bars. Not like it is a safe bet, but...at least a chance now.
