When I saw that Nintendo had released three more random games for their SNES Nintendo Online emulator, I was disappointed to see it wasn't a Donkey Kong Country game or Chrono Trigger. I initially dismissed this Japan only puzzle game as another puzzle game that is probably good but I can't enjoy like Tetris or Puyo Puyo.
Then, I found myself being unable to just forget about it... there was something about it that just made me want to keep trying it out for fun and, with the help of the rewind and save state features of the SNESflix emulator, the game eventually clicked with me and I was able to appreciate the game's "Arcade" mode where the difficulty ramps up over time. Lining up four or five panels to create the "time stop" effect that allows you to set up more combos, panicking when the relaxing tunes change into panic-inducing jams, etc. is all super addicting and fun.
Anyways I know the game is old as fuck and it isn't actually a 2020 release but if yoy have a Nintendo Online subscription please consider giving Panel De Pon a try, even if you've never enjoyed puzzle games. It's all jokes and good fun.
