Craftopia studio Pocketpair announces multiplayer open-world survival crafting game Palworld for PC

Craftopia studio Pocketpair have announced multiplayer open-world survival crafting game PALWORLD for PC (Steam). It will launch in 2022.
Palworld is a game about living a slow life with mysterious creatures "Pal" or throwing yourself into life-and-death battles with poachers.

You can make Pals fight, breed, help with farming, or work in factories. You can also sell them off or even slaughter them to eat! That however, is forbidden by law.

So uh, this looks cool, but..what about Craftopia? Craftopia was launched not that long ago on September 4, 2020.

It doesn't feel right to announce a new game while they have another game in Early Access, far from being finished.

Here's their announcement page though: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1307550/view/3058487332664259189

Still, Craftopia has done really well which led to a team expansion, I'm interested but cautious. More info and screenshots at the link.

■ Survival
- This world is full of dangers such as food shortages, harsh weather, and illegal poachers. You must be prepared to do anything if you want to survive. You may even need to consume Pals sometimes...

■ Building
- Do you want to build a pyramid? You can have a large number of Pals work on the construction. Don't worry; labor laws won't be applied to Pals.

■ Factory and Automation
- It is essential for automation to let Pals do the manual work. Build a factory and place Pals in it. They will work forever as long as they're fed until the end of their lifetime.

■ Dungeon Exploration
- With Pals, you'll be safe in dangerous areas. If you are in danger, you use Pals to cover your escape! They'll give their lives to protect you.

■ Poaching and Crime
- Endangered species Pals live in the hunting prohibited area. If you sneak in and catch them, you'll get tons of money! It's only illegal if you get caught.

Unironically GOTY 2022 contender.

I dunno why but the use of firearms just looks so funny and out of place, but the premise is cool.

Also that's a Wooloo

Is it locked to 50FPS?

I tried to get into Craftopia but it felt pretty messy in that free-to-play-MMO way that sees crazy amounts of systems and numbers dumped on you very early. Shortly after that I played Valheim and now I can't bear playing games with hunger meters anymore.

That's quite the Aloy-adjacent protagonist they have there.

What in the hell is this? Why are there guns with these cutesy critters? Why can you use your little critters as cover? Why is there poaching???

Everyone's up in arms that Nintendo's gonna come after these folks but in reality this is the closest thing to an anime-adjacent Digimon game we've ever seen

Don't think I like being able to use them as cover / shields, nor the hunting stuff.

What kind of person thinks it's a good idea to mix a farm sim with Pokemon with fucking realistic guns.

It is tonally repulsive.

I think this will be a hit. Hope it gets good dev time and launches feature complete though, not sure how they manage Craftopia and this

"What if Pokemon but for psychopaths" must have been the pitch.

All y'all whining about Pokemon being too simple and for kids and this is what we get. Vegetable Squirrels making assault rifles.

I hope you're happy.

Legit tho, It looks so dumb that I'm kinda on board.

I mean you can argue that it being tonally repulsive makes it a bad product but you cannot argue that it isn't what they're going for.

On an artistic level I respect that, if only for the trailer. Can't imagine how well it translates to a full game though.

Woah, Craftopia is a name I haven't heard in ages.
Not fan of shooters but it seems charming.

They've certainly refined the art of trailers that just continually escalate. Craftopia was the same.

Just because you can made a game about enslaving mons to make M14 doesn't mean you should.

Uhh Craftopia is still VERY early access with big patches coming only once every 2 months nowadays. This is why I have not yet bought that game. The core seems fun but apparently this dev is known to leave games unfinished and move on (this is at least what ppl on Steam forum are saying).

Which sucks because both Craftopia and this sound insane but fun, but I can't support then if they aren't going to focus on finishing their current EA that is far from release state, before starting up yet another.

Guess I'll continue to wait. Hopefully Craftopia dev remains at least as active as it is right now
