Tech exec Palmer Luckey to host California fundraiser for President Trump this weekend

The controversial tech executive and Oculus founder is hosting a fundraiser event for President Trump at Luckey's Southern California home.

Former Facebook and Oculus executive Palmer Luckey will host a fundraiser for President Donald Trump at Luckey's Southern California home this weekend, according to an invitation viewed by CNBC.

Trump and Vice President Mike Pence's "Victory" campaign will hold the event in Orange County at "The home of Nicole and Palmer Luckey" on October 18th, the invitation states. Tickets range from $2,800 per person up to $100,000 per person. It also includes Ric Grenell, the former acting director of the United States National Intelligence agency.

After leaving Oculus, Luckey started his current company Anduril with a mission to build cutting-edge defense technology for the U.S. government. Based in Irvine, California, Luckey's startup made Anvil, a quadcopter that can fly 100 miles an hour and was purchased by the U.S. military to be tested by special forces soldiers. The company secured a $1 billion valuation in September 2019, CNBC reported.

Tech’s Most Controversial Startup Now Makes Drone-Killing Robots

Founded by Palmer Luckey and backed by Peter Thiel, Anduril is rekindling the connection between the American military and Silicon Valley.

The prospect of a 2-year-old startup building and distributing a new class of potentially lethal weapons will undoubtedly raise ethical questions, especially amid a larger backlash against overreach by tech companies. The Interceptor in its current form doesn't target humans and requires explicit permission from a human operator before each attack, but it's conceivable that those controls could be changed in the future. "You've already developed this technology, opened the so-called Pandora's box," argues Marta Kosmyna of the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots, a group opposed to autonomous weaponry. Technologies such as the Interceptor are "very rarely used as intended," she says.

Later, Stephens and Luckey gave speeches mocking Silicon Valley's caution about military contracts. "I'm so happy to come back down here to a place full of wonderful people who are also sane and support national security," Luckey said, to loud applause. Stephens thanked employees for choosing Anduril over the big software companies, even though it had meant sacrificing dream careers in digital advertising optimization.

What I love about our current overlords of Industry is that they are the same corrupt bigoted money hungry assholes that have always existed in big business America, they just wear Allbirds sneakers. But at least ya coked up 1980's banker wasn't selling you that they were trying to make the world a better place while driving it to shit.

Migrants having beanbags launched at them by an Orcrist brand drone would be too on the nose for Ready Player One, but here we are.

No more natural evolution for this moron than to use his riches to start a company to kill non-whites around the world, and what a perfect partner he found in pursuit of that goal.

Palmer Luckey reportedly hid $100,000 donations to Trump behind Chrono Trigger references

The Verge is about technology and how it makes us feel. Founded in 2011, we offer our audience everything from breaking news to reviews to award-winning features and investigations, on our site, in video, and in podcasts.
The money was provided by a company called Wings of Time — named after a fantastical machine used in SNES RPG — on January 4th. While Luckey's name was not recorded in the inauguration committee filings, California records show that Wings of Time is managed by another corporation called Fiendlord's Keep — another Chrono Trigger reference — of which Luckey is the sole officer. State records also show that Wings of Time is based at a Long Beach address that Luckey has used for other companies, including Luckey Arms LLC.

The donation came four months after Luckey admitted that he had funded a pro-Trump group dedicated to "shitposting" and "meme magic." Speaking in September, Luckey said he had given $10,000 to the Nimble America association because it had "fresh ideas on how to communicate with young voters through the use of several billboards." Those billboards were reportedly used to repurpose internet memes to attack Hillary Clinton.

What is it with these fuckers and Tolkien names for businesses that would make him spin in his grave like a Cuisinart?

They like the part where all the good, white races banded together to fight off the dark hordes.

I like Tolkien's stories quite a lot, but it's not hard to see how a selective reading meshes nicely with real world racist beliefs.

Remember when he tried to pretend he wasn't pro Trump in 2016?

Fuck him.
That time he was desperately trying to disprove he wasn't a maga idiot and claiming people were on a witch hunt against him and then someone found a video of him on a trump rally was something to witness.

Truly trash person all around.
