There was something about the movement and sound of throw in ME2 I preferred, but ME3's combat seemed more balanced in my playthrough last year.
Playing as the Vanguard class, I think the Banshee did a fantastic job of breaking up the combat patterns that worked so well in 2. Wasn't a fan of the turret stuff in 3, but most everything else clicked for me.

Can't speak to any Multiplayer. Never touched it, as it wasn't something I was looking for.

Can I vote for Andromeda instead? Because that one has the most fun combat of the 4 games. 😛

Never played it but from what I have heard and read and seen on teh interwebz, its movement and locomotion allied to the updated combat combination mechanics are the few of its true redeeming qualities.

(genuinely don't remember much difference between 2 and 3, I guess I'll remind myself in a bit of time :) )

Also, this. It has been so long that I cannot recall the details nor how the games felt. I do recall there been a notable upgrade in how Shepard handled compared to the first game, however.

ME3 is definitely the most refined and polished, and feels great to play.

So refined that everything in ME3 was a threat to Shepard to test out the combat system from the moment they left the embrace of the Normandy or one of the terrestrial expedition vehicle, given Shepard found no respite to holster their gun.

ME3's overall. They missed a trick when bringing ME2's sublime Infiltrator into the sequel, though. It just isn't as fun.

ME3 and it's not even close. ME2 feels like a slog, it's very heavy and cumbersome, with some slow response time for the animation.

By sublime if you meant using it to camp and snipe and later using it to earn brief respites from hordes of you know what, then yes (that's how I played the game at launch).

Hopefully, I can be braver this time.

More or less. XD Pumping the game up to Hardcore (not Insanity; Insanity's nuts) and quick-camping is a thrillride.

Mass Effect 2 allows you to sit behind cover and does very little to dislodge you from your spot. Every enemy encounter in ME3 has enemies with abilities designed to force mobility and improvisation. This means that I find the distinction between ME2 enemy defenses and ME3 enemy defenses to matter a lot less than the OP is stating they do. It simply means ME2 can take longer to sit behind cover and pot shot enemies.

You can be very aggressive with the infiltrator in ME2.

Clearly your balls are far bigger than mine.

Then again, given the anticipated improvement in load times, I may too try out Hardcore but this time as Vanguard. I cannot recall if in ME2 players could do that (in)famous 1 2 punch of phasing through objects to hit a single target, immediately followed by that energy dissipating ground pound to knock out multiple surrounding foes, like I could in ME3 MP.

ME2 has its fair share of enemies and powers that try to dislodge Shepard out of cover. If we start to count, the change might not even be very significant between games. The biggest different in that ME3 punishes the player considerably more outside cover. Enemies deal way more damage then they should, which means you want to stay in cover more than in ME2.

The main problem with ME3 is that it does try to take steps forward, but it lacks a finely tuned balance in singleplayer to allow all its qualities to truly shine (they do in ME3MP though).

The thing about Mass Effect 3's multiplayer is that -- and Sof will recall this well, I reckon -- back when a wave of disappointment emerged regarding the single-player game, many of us "old hats" at BSN shifted over to the multiplayer for solidarity and support. In the darkest days, prior to the release of the "Extended Cut" DLC, that was our wellspring for hanging out in the fictional universe we loved... and felt miffed by.

Unfortunately, that's all that was for me, was a temporary salve. Co-operative online multiplayer has never been my jam and I rather doubt it ever will be my jam. I know a lot of folks, like my good friend who Sof may remember as "CDRSkyShep", who felt the same way but took to ME3 multiplayer like a glove to a hand. It didn't happen for me. I wish it had.

I dipped out fairly quickly. I think experiences with the multiplayer boiled down to two main perspectives: it either felt painstakingly repetitive... or it didn't. For many players, the moment-to-moment divergences were more than enough to keep it feeling fresh and the thrill of unlocking new kits was rewarding enough. I just kept thinking, "oh lord, here we go again" until I realized "I should go."

Really wish I jived with it. I fell out of contact with some great people when I left. Mechanically speaking, the whole thing was sound, and I feel for those folks who wish it'd return in Legendary Edition.

I'm voted 2 because it just felt so damn good after hating combat in 1.

3 just felt like more of the same, so while better technically I didn't get as much enjoyment simply due to the series progression.

ME3 is a surprisingly good 3rd person shooter. Lots of abilities, a good variety of guns.

it's biggest issue is a lack of enemy variety. I wish all the enemy sets that were in the multiplayer were actually integrated into the singleplayer.

Mass Effect 3:
  1. Modded Multiplayer
  2. Modded Single Player
  3. Multiplayer
  4. Single Player
It's in that order. Shit was a blast and hope Mass Effect 5 lives up to it in that regard.

I remember remarkably little about the time ME3 was released. Just this huge storm of disappointment and heartbreak.

But I will say I was always a supporter of MP, in fact, back in ME2's time I said Mass Effect could support an amazing horde mode for multiplayer. So when it was announced and it was great I wasn't surprised. Although I was surprised by just how successful it was.

I don't play a lot of multiplayer games but I got heavy into ME3's multiplayer mode, so that gets my vote.

I got really good with the Volus Engineer. Sneaky little bugger. I had a blast playing as him

I actually enjoyed Andromeda combat the most even though at higher difficulties the Kett are very bullet sponge-y.

ME3 for me.

And now I'm just sad again that it's multiplayer wasn't revived with the incoming remaster

Poll choices make sense as Me3 has always been the favorite combat wise but my favorite among everything in this series has always been Me2, including the combat

Mass Effect 3.. in ME1 you just mainly fight geth or other robots and in ME2 it's constantly the collectors or robots.

Mass Effect 3 refined the combat in 2 and had way more varied enemies.
