By any chance, are you a participant on the Xbox Insider program? I've been having problems with the new update, Yakuza 0 and some other random games freeze on the launch screen, and even though Ori is running flawlessly, maybe it has some relation, I dunno.

I..dont think I am?

I'm back in the game now thankfully after a relaunch.

I hope so. Take this example, the glow in the eyes is completely missing and some other areas seem to have a bit different lighting.

ui7vIWt.jpg

a lot of areas in this video have far more details in the launch patch. Like this part where the trunk of the tree has far better and more defined textures.

Even in this screenshot, just look at the "bed" that he was sleeping in. Way better, too.

Jesus Christ the 3 minute mark.

I knew exactly how bad it runs, I can feel these drops immediately and like I thought, it can be really bad.

What a shame.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't thomasmahler literally in this forum (or in other interviews) bragged about how crazy well optimized their engine is and how they really made sure that it will run absolutely perfect when they release it and that they postponed the release to make it that stable and perfect?
And now it's released with patch and basically runs like absolute shit, getting under 50 and 40fps so often.

Man, it really is just marketing horseshit when an official talks about their game.
Every, single, time. I'm so disappointed in this release. I really started to regret that I also bought the CE which arrived today.

The game looks insanely beautiful, hopefully it runs smoothly once I can play on PC tomorrow. I just finished Blind Forest DE (again) last night and that game is so perfect. Not a single micro-stutter, dropped frame, audio issue or visual glitch. Only sublime perfection.

Man, it really is just marketing horseshit when an official talks about their game.

Then try not to think about the state of the game actually pressed to the disc they sold you :(

On my one x i dont think ive had any FPS drops approach 50fps and im about 3 hours into the game. Ive had absolutely zero noticible performance issues.

it doesn't run like absolute shit. It's not perfect, but you have to be full of it to say the game runs like absolute shit, tbh.

Those with audio buzzing on PC, is there any specific sound hardware it happens on? Do you all run Realtek motherboard audio or does it happen on more quality sound hardware?

I don't know, while the tutorial area ran pretty great, every area after that so far got worse and worse with the "swamp" area constantly running around 50 with drops to under 40 if you have a fight there. It's as bad as in the video for me.
Maybe it gets better again later but so far the majority I've played ran "like shit".
That's what I personally would call something from that I expected to be 100% stable, like we know it from the first game, like we heard it in everything the officials said, just from past experience and trust alone would I never in my dream thought that it could run as bad as it does, I would have bet money on it that these guys make it right. And with that in mind constant ~50 with drops to 35 is "like shit".

Two quick questions:

- I'll be playing on One S, should I wait for a patch to solve those issues?
- In terms of story and narrative, is this a direct sequel to the first one?

As someone who's been in that area on a one x, i can confirm that it absolutely never dips that low. There may be stutters but it is significantly less impactful then what you suggest.

I firmly do not believe you when you say it's dropping to 35 fps. As someone who's been in that area on a one x, i can confirm that it absolutely never dips that low.

You can literally see in the video that I linked at 3 minutes that it drops to 35.
Maybe it's a different area, I don't know, but I personally had a fight with 2 mosquito and a red thing on the wall in this swamp area (as I call it) and the fps tanked for a good bunch of seconds until they were dead and that was definitely around 40 or under.

Here's my short and tidy review:

Ori and the Will of the Wisp is a Masterpiece. A pinnacle in overall game design, top to bottom, and an absolute must experience for fans of the Metroidvania genre. It's so much fun to play, especially deep into the game when you've gathered up all the traversal abilities.

This is one for the books.

Aaaaand the game is hard-crashing my Xbox One X during that first "Ori-running-loading-screen". The console turns itself completely off.

Nice.

Edit: Can't play the game. It always shuts down my console.

I'm getting audio buzzing issues on PC also on the prologue. I'm going to wait for the patch to start the game up again.

Youre right. Some aspects do look more detailed. I was taken aback by some lighting changes. Notice how the glow in the eyes interact with the feather. Its completely gone in the patched version. But then some scenes appear to lack sun rays in the retail version that are present in the new patch. Its a bit inconsistent here or there.

I could be wrong, but i believe the characters are 3d models, so the glow in the eyes being dynamic lighting could have been something they turned off to better optimize performance.

Damn, I was hyped for this to unlock and went back to play the first one after a long break from it and I remembered why I did so in the first place, this is tedious as hell to play. Guess I'll just move on to the sequel and hope for the best.

Installed the brand new patch and tested some areas out, no changes at all. But if some of you have an Xbox One X, test it out for yourself. This exact position with the Ori head has 2 mosquito, one snail on the right and one red blobb, fighting there, after doing it 3 more times, I would even argue it goes under 30, maybe 25, it runs horrendous there.

Fighting in the area with the red dot also drops to easily 40 and under, it feels like slow motion when you jump around and hit attack.

PC players - have you found a way to go above your native res? You can see the resolution but it just reverts back to your native. Shame too, there is a nice crisp look at 4k and a much blurrier look at 1080p.

I've tried DSR and custom resolutions. No dice..
