Even if someone records themselves it doesn't mean they're giving consent to have it posted publicly.
It's not at all uncommon to record stuff for private use later.
I do think the top comment on Twitter is the best though "twitter really took a gamble by trying to hurt a sub with public humiliation"

No I assume consent to post wasnt given clearly. But if you've hired a sex worker or even a sex partner then the prudent thing would be to have them use your phone or camera to record. Unless they set up hidden cameras which means a lot of laws were broken.

To clear up some misconceptions: according to the Motherboard article that the OP's article references and links to, the Dom was a friend of his.
In a NY Post article Weiner says it was his girlfriend at the time. He says it was her idea to film and he suspects that she shared it with people in the community, and one of those people leaked it. I won't link to the post article since some aren't happy with how they've handled the situation, but if you Google his name it'll be one of the top results.

Keep in mind that Zack Weiner is a victim in this story. He had a video released without his consent. With that said, please avoid making jokes about what happened and jokes about his name. Any posts after this that do either, will be actioned.
I think it's pretty badass of him to take it in stride and own it. In private, people do stuff that some people find weird, while others find completely normal. The real weird person (and asshole) in this situation is whoever decided to leak this video solely to tarnish this guy's reputation.
His response is level-headed as can be considering the circumstances.
Whoever leaked it will hopefully get charged according to "revenge porn" legislation in NY.
Regarding the contents leaked: There should be no issue with what he did, he had consensual sexual activities with another adult, kink-shaming seems off here, regardless if maybe later he turns into some sort of milkshake duck.
