Played the demo. It was solid but definitely not worth the cost of a full price AAA game.
Hopefully TRF gets it right next time
They just don't have a comparable the budget to what the old days had.
I dunno, the reviews look all over the place to me.I already got burned after dropping $10 on I am Setsuna and the reviews are pretty bad for this, hope huge pass for me. They should take a stab at SRPG in vein of FFT next
octopath had many issues that were seperate from being compared to ffvi. And that comparison was only with the art style. In retrospect, I am Setsuna is probably they're best game and not at all a bad game. One problem with I am Setsuna is that it was cursed with being the next "Chrono Trigger" due to its battle system in the same way Octopath Traveler was cursed as being "Final Fantasy VI" due to it's visuals. When people start dropping those legendary names and you play the games they may not be bad games per se, but they're not Chrono Trigger and certainly not Final Fantasy VI.
Like I said that's just one problem, not to say the game was perfect beyond an unfair comparison because it wasn't, but from my demo impressions of Oninaki I'd put Setsuna as TRPGF's highlight.
I really wanted to like I am Setsuna after hearing so many comparisons to Chrono Trigger. I gave it maybe ten hours or so before I just couldn't keep going because of how boring it was. It felt like a paint-by-the-numbers JRPG with only some basic combat mechanics that reminded me of CT. The audio visaul presentation also felt like a phone game.
Was Lost Sphear any better? I have to admit this game looks intriguing, but so did I am Setsuna before I played it.
Time, Setsuna was a low budget and ultimately boring game. There are a lot of upcoming great games, if you like rpg there is trail of cold steel 3, greedfall, ff8 remaster, nnk1 next month and im getting them all. I just dont have time for a mediocre gameI dunno, the reviews look all over the place to me.
It is a clear love it or hate it game. The demo should give you an idea on how it will be.
Also not sure how spending $10 is getting burned? Like I have spent way way more and gotten way way less than what Setsuna offered.
Personally I have enjoyed the Tokyo Factory games for what they are, I haven't paid full price for them and I will probably await a sale here too.
I enjoyed the demo immensely, but I don't have the time right now.
Truly the new Imageepoch. They were founded to capitalise on the success of Bravely Default, and were meant to make games that were like the JRPG classics of yesteryear and specifically on home consoles(which just meant PS4 at the time).
The scythe one is pretty solid. But the bigger issue is I'm just starting to hate the game. I enjoyed the demo but the combat, and especially bosses are just getting too tedious now. Shit just ain't fun.Playing the game now, and I feel like there's no incentive to level up the other Daemons other than the first one. She has a dash and really good skills, and every time you get a new Daemon you need to start with them low leveled and no skills/passives other than the initial one. I'm up to five Daemons now and most of them are way too slow and their avoidance skills aren't as good as the first one's dash.

I've only found a few Daemons that I like to use. But it seems they dump so many of these things on me.if XP were shared it would help a lot, as it is you spend a lot of time eyeballing the skill tree wondering what to spend your colourless orbs on to get weapons up to the point where they're actually fun to use
Sigh. I have to agree with you. I felt the exact same way when I played Setsuna. Very paint-by-numbers. I did play through to the end, but it's just a mediocre title. I'm so sad to say that.I really wanted to like I am Setsuna after hearing so many comparisons to Chrono Trigger. I don't think it's a bad game, but there's a lot of tedium to it.did anyone buy this? how did it get completely ignored like this? i guess this must have completely bombed and there isn't even a wikipedia page for it
Physical version in EU is only available from the Square Enix store (which is currently sold out):One questione: the game Is out also in Europe but I'm not able to find the physical version on Amazon or GameStop... Is it only digital?
I didn't expect that literally nobody here will be playing it lol
I will eventually get it, the game's problem is that people just have too much on the plate to make time for something that doesn't super stand out.I am Setsuna and Lost Sphear killed most of the goodwill they had. And then this turned out to be another middling game by them.
Their mission statement was, like, "We were all fans of classic SNES JRPGs and we want to make games as great as those ones were!", but from my experience, it's like they took the most superficial cues from that era or just missed the point of "what made those games GREAT". Games like Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler are MORE attuned to how the "classic JRPG" were like. They were founded to capitalise on the success of Bravely Default, and were meant to make games that were like the JRPG classics of yesteryear and specifically on home consoles(which just meant PS4 at the time).

Gave the demo a good go, it certainly was bad, just not inspiring or impressive, and, based on the level of reception it's getting on here, I know that isn't a harsh assessment. I'll probably play it over the next year or so, once the price drops a bit.I didn't expect that literally nobody here will be playing it lol
