Sounds like we are talking to our future selves. Who goes to a bar on their own and talks to an old man for an hour? Someone depressed with no friends that's who.

50s lost the use of the left side of his body. My fiancée is walking him out now.

I would be as polite as I possibly could in extracting myself and wishing him a good night. I would then quietly explain to the bartender that I don't know this man, and that he seems a little drunk and emotional/vulnerable. Bartenders at most bars are equipped on handling these things, through experience or policy or both.

Buy some drinks with it and keep him company a bit longer if it's not too much trouble. You'll probably bring a bit of happiness to someone.

There was a dead guy who would always grab my butt when I walked by. Sometimes I wonder if he was really dead.

I didn't hear but he got kicked out and yell across the street m.
This reminds me of another thread on here, but I think the op there actually made bank with his random charitable bar patron.
