So i got the oculus link cable working almost perfectly. It seems to have much less stutter in halflife alex but intermittently i get stutter periods of 10 seconds or more and then it goes back to normal. I tried other games and they seem fine. The only game that runs like absolute ass over link is no mans sky. That I have to use VD for to get any decent performance.

I am amazed at the clarity of the resolution on this headset. Its absolutely insane how good Alex looks. I find myself picking up objects and looking at them closely at all the detail. But does anyone have a fix for the alex stuttering? Also it seems when i load a new area It will either load fine, stay at the loading screen forever, or just freeze completely. Any help would be appreciated.

For me with Alyx it's related to achievements and steam overlay stuff. I got real bad stutters when they popped up. Would drop to like 0 and revert back.

Oddly enough it also happened in Asgard's Wrath with Oculus notifications.

I can't freaking believe Facebook made the old link cable a pain in the ass because they changed the orientation of the usb port, guess they want me to buy the new link cable, gonna need to buy some tape or something, super annoying how it falls right now.

Pretty happy with my Quest 2 so far. Everything works as well as can be expected.

I'm still a little bit underwhelmed with the audio quality. There's some noticeable hissing that kicks in when the speakers are playing audio, which is very noticeable while playing quiet audio. It's much improved by plugging in some headphones, but not entirely eliminated.

I didn't get this on my Oculus Go, possibly because those speakers were pretty weak so it was maybe less noticeable? Although, using headphones with my Go would produce some of that hissing as well as a fair amount of distracting electrical buzz... so it's much improved in that respect.

I paired my Quest 2 with some cheap Bluetooth speakers which seemed to produce much better results, although I'd have to try on something with better audio quality.

I think the best option would be to invest in some good quality Bluetooth earphones, as whatever they're using to handle audio on these devices doesn't seem to be that great. Although, I am particularly sensitive to these issues so it might not be a problem for everyone.

I gave up on trying to get Oculus Support to replace my Quest 2 with the buzzing fan issue. It's been a week now and still nothing arranged for me, despite taking all my details 5 days ago then promising an answer in 24-36 hours.

I took it back to the retail store today and had it exchanged immediately. Should have just done that to begin with but I didn't think it would have been this much hassle through Oculus.

Not a fan of the change either. But if you look, the Link cable now comes with a plastic clip with it. I guess it makes a lot of sense if you're going to fasten it to the side.

I'm actually just going to buy a short USB-C male-to-female extension cable and permanently fasten that to the side of my HMD. Then I'll just plug the Link/charging cable into the extension cable. This way I'll avoid any wear and tear on the Quest's USB port.

I was playing Half Life Alyx this morning and all of a sudden a bright red dot appeared on the display and wouldn't go away. I panicked thinking it was a dead or stuck pixel. Luckily I restarted and it went away. I think it was one of those red dots you see when you're setting the guardian and it shows objects in the play area.

Could you have accidentally enabled recording? By default when recording a red dot will appear on screen.

Are there any better web browsers on sidequest ?

Both the Oculus and Firefox windows are too small. In Virtual Desktop i can resize my PC browser to be 30 foot high and curved in front of me which is great.

Soo... tried my first VR porn experience for curiosity and.. rofl, what blast with videos 8k-5k, truly changing view.

Also the battery drains fucking fast playing games via VD with slight OC, much more than playing anything natively on the quest 2.

So I have prescription glasses so I can see up close without blur, when I use the glasses in the Quest 2 everything looks sharper and more clear to me.

Everything I read about wearing glasses in VR talks about how the focus length in the headset for farsighted people wouldn't require me to wear my prescription reading glasses, it'd make a minimal or no change at all. But it looks much clearer with my prescription reading glasses on (been testing near and far objects in VR for the past 2 days).

I'd love to hear from people with experience with glasses....I ordered some prescription lenses that are coming in a few days but all I read is that if you're farsighted you won't need glasses..... The opposite of my experience wearing my reading glasses.

I am so tempted to grab this as my first VR experience. I think i would primarily use it with Virtual Desktop to play stuff on my PC wirelessly. I'm mainly worried about my glasses and trying to use discord with it. Im assuming since its just streaming your desktop I could set my oculus mic as my discord mic via passthrough and it would work fine?

Yes, Virtual Desktop can pass through your Quest mic. Just know there is around half a second delay.

I just grabbed some of these, and one of the smaller ones has been working great for me so far:

Finally spent some quality time with Virtual Desktop. It may be subtle differences, but it's a substantial upgrade over the Quest 1 VD experience. Unless you're buying PCVR exclusively for seated experiences like race sims, I just could not recommend anything other than Quest 2 (if you can live with the Facebook element). Roomscale VR is really good with this. Quest 1 was good, but this is really good.

EDIT: Whoa. Just did my annual playthrough of Rez Infinite this way. Settings cranked up on VD and settings cranked up in Rez. Without question the best Rez experience I ever had. Controllers had zero jitter and just gorgeous on this screen. This game has never been very comfortable for my hands (always rotated between left/right hands), but I played the entire game with my right hand without switching. Love the ergonomics on these controllers. Only bummer is that Area X is essentially a second game and I couldn't get VD to load into onto the HMD.

Wow so Amazon delivered my AMVR grips like 8 hours after I ordered them. Crazy. Maybe VR is popular near me.

They're quite nice. I wish they were a bit more rubber and a bit less plastic. Had to snip off some of the excess elastic as it was hitting my hands when playing Beat Saber.

They're going to go to my parents for their Quest 1 when the Mamut grips arrive (if I like them better), so I'm just using these in the interim. Apparently shipping to Canada is awful right now for them.

But what a difference they make. I had trouble keep a good grip on the Touch 2 controllers when really active and my hands start to sweat a bit. Fixed that instantly - they also feel a bit better in the hand to me, the Touch 2s felt a bit less ergonomic to my hands compared to the Touch 1s.

After seeing people were getting 30 dollar promotional credits for their delayed Elite straps, I decided to check my Oculus email account to see if I got anything for all my Facebook shenanigans. Turns out they sent me a 20 dollar credit yesterday.

I'm thinking about Walkabout Mini-golf. It's got some good buzz. Anyone own it?
I really like it. Super polished and interesting course designs.

I second this. Picked the game up earlier and it is awesome, definitely the best mini/crazy golf game at the moment, really nails the feeling of being in a themed mini golf resort. Multiplayer is fantastic fun.

Yeah. I was going to reply and just kind of forgot. I'm still leaning this way. I'm not really seeing anything that's jumped out at me on the coming soon list, but I've been playing with so many new toys here, it's just kind of gone on the backburner a bit.

Thanks to both of you for the replies.

I don't understand. I have the old link cable and have been using it, seems to work just fine for me, what's the problem? I plug the L-connector into the headset, facing the cable forward toward my computer. Is the problem that you orient your play area to have the computer behind you? Does it not work that way?

With the L-adapter, it used to go straight down to the ground. I actually orientated it the other way. I routed it straight up, and then routed it through a seat belt cushion that was over my top strap. And then it came down the back of my head. Honestly, if you weren't routing it up the way I was, this new orientation is better. It highly encourages people to attach it to the side and then down your back.

I'm totally sucked back into playing Skyrim VR. Using Virtual Desktop means I can turn around as much as I want which really improves immersion and the mic passthrough means I can use the "Dragonborn Speaks Naturally" mod to for fast voice equipping of weapons/spells and talk directly with NPCs. Awesome.

I'm also using a bow for the first time (always been a mage before). My aim kinda sucks but the tracking with the controllers feels as good if not better than my original Rift.

Pistol Whip and Space Pirate Trainer are enhanced now?

Dammit, is there a list being kept up to date for Q2 enhanced games and apps?

Population one is so much fun with friends. Surprised how long the battery lasts with the elite battery strap.

I have a feeling Skyrim VR will end up on Quest natively :)

Yeah I dove in the other day and it's been a real bad life decision, in the sense of me taking off my headset and going "Holy shit why is it dark out". Having a comfy chair in my roomscale that I can sit in and plug the headset into when I'm not in a dungeon is not something to do when you're on a time budget for the day.

Gonna have to try that Dragonborn Speaks Naturally out. I've been using MageVR -- VRIK wasn't doing it for me at all -- mostly for glyph spell switching and the dependable shoulder holsters, but if I can just call spells out or whatever, I'd be all in on that.

I wish. I've taken my Quest 1 down to my city's river valley a couple times to smell the woods and nature while doing some Beat Saber. Usually load it up on the back of my bike and cycle down. Skyrim VR like that would be intense.

So I've been messing with VD for a little and is it normal for it to have artifacts even on a good connection? I just thought I saw people mentioning that it looked almost like Rift S quality if you have the settings right (5Ghz, 80Mhz channel width), and I think I have it set up correctly but it still looks like I'm watching a youtube stream. Also, there is very slight lag but noticeable when I play PC version of Pistol Whip.

Depends on bitrate and codec. W/ h.264 i have to crank the bitrate and still see artifacts. HVEC gives a cleaner image at comparable bitrates, but tends to be higher latency.

Am I missing something or does the quest 2 not have the double tap to enable pass through? I used that all the time on quest but it doesn't work on the quest 2 and I swear I looked through all the settings and can't find anything for it :-(

Uh, I am so close to buying one as I helped a friend over Discord get his all set up with Virtual Desktop and it worked flawlessly. I *think* these are my glasses sizing.

Them seem theyd be too big. Any help from glasses wearers?

I don't have a Quest 2, but I think that was in Experimental Features on Quest 1, which you might have to enable in the first place.

Edit: To be clear, it's Double Tap on the side of the headset, not controller buttons. Wasn't sure which you meant.
