I can't think of a better-written character than Parvati Holcomb last year. The plotting of TOW was adequate, but the characterization and dialog, particularly from that character, was excellent.
I'm just sad that I won't be playing this new game because it'll be Xbox/PC only. :(
I didn't mean that literally. It also benefited from releasing late in the year and with little competition from rpgs. TOW releases in spring it would then have literally won not a single GOTYIt literally won game of the year at the new york game awards, two best rpg awards, and a best original game award. So no, not nobody.
Motion sickness, migraines, you name it. First person fucks with me pretty badly, especially more "immersive" first person cameras.
I'm also just not a fan of first person narrative. I like giving a shit about my protagonist, and it's very hard for me to care about a floating gun.
Did I miss the worldwide RPG gamers meeting again where this consensus was decided and the results shown? Fuck.I was talking about the consensus between rpg fans not just only my opinion. Am i wrong? Do you really think those four recent games are better than the other four classic ones?
Then I guess that applies to any game? I think people are just getting tired of the drive-by bullshit with some who appear to never have anything good to say in MS/Xbox threads.Holy shit some of you really fucking defensive
Me saying hopefully next project gonna be better, does not imply that I think outer worlds is a piece of shit of a game. Outer worlds is not a flawless piece of art, there's room for improvement
I can't see a single scenario where this does not generate something very, very good.

It's the same fucking shit. One does not cancel the other. You're so fixated on my posts it's hilariousHaha, so now your changing it to "hopefully there next project is going to be better"
That's a bit different to "hopefully its a lot better than recent output"
It's hilarious that your now backtracking on your original post in order to try and sound not so ridiculous.
Parvati's arc was pretty much why I stuck with it, the characters were all pretty great. Maybe except the one joke robot.
I've yet to play PoE2 but it seems like Obsidian are past their prime.
Yes, because it's not that good, for exemple if you compare it to Fallout New Vegas
The Outer Worlds franchise... Oh no, let that stinker rest please.
I hope they do better than with Outer Worlds, that game was bland as fuck after the first 3 hours.
I don't want static open worlds like Outer Worlds anymore. We are past NPC standing around in the same spot phase a long time ago.
Now, this is interesting. Which non-static open world game would you suggest me to understand the difference?
I really don't get the aversion to The Outer Worlds.
1: it is not, by any means, a AAA title.
2: it is a very good game with excellent characters.
3: shooting is not exceptional, yet it is in line with the combat of many other 1st person RPGs. This is not Halo or Doom.
Also, it is not that every thread about Obsidan should contain from now on:
- People who thinks Microsoft will kill them ("like Lionhead"...)
- Considerations that now, magically, Obsidian is a developer "past their" prime.
- "Fear" that they are working on too many projects because, yes, they did that even before the aquisition, but now, you know, Microsoft, etc...
That is getting stale.
Even if it's First-Person focused?First person. Cool. I don't have to feel bad about missing it now.
It's not the TOW DLC, and this AAA title would simply be a spin-off. A Skyrim-esque PoE3 would receive a lot of hate from the fans and would eliminate a lot of freedom that they'd have simply by doing a spin-off in the Pillars universe.Based on some of Sawyer's recent tumblr Q and As, I doubt it. He really makes it seem like Pillars is on the shelf at the moment.
And we do know they are working on Outer Worlds DLC for this year. So it could just be referring to that.
I still hope that they have some future plans for Pillars-like games, but at least we have Owlcat in that space now too.

It's really nothing personal for me. I loved some of Obsidian's games, most recently Tyranny. I was also very happy with TOW for the first few hours, but it ended up being one of my biggest disappointments of the year. Past the first planet and the space station (I forget what it was called), it became really really boring and bland. I ended up dropping it on the last planet (again, the name didn't stick with me) simple because I completely stopped caring about everything in the game.
The weakest link for me wasn't the budget or production values, but how incredibly safe and by-the-numbers the writing was. They had an opportunity to really go insane, but instead it was this featureless, cookie cutter, seen-a-thousand-times tropey swill.
I only hope MS's backing will give them more confidence to pursue somewhat more unique vision with the sequel that's inevitably coming.
It really doesn't matter what anyone releases anymore. Someone's gonna hate it, and someone's gonna love it. No game pleases all, not even Alpha Protocol.
The old "Only on era" card, bring it out when some people have different opinions to you and you don't like it.Ah yes. Era aka the only place where TOW is considered a bad game and worse than FO4
The Outer Worlds is one of the worst games that came out last year. Hopefully they can do better with MS backing

Klobrille had similar tweet pointing to that last September.
I assume these are about the same project.
Damn, another Xbox studio working on 3 projects?! Why do I get the feeling that Sony will be caught off-guard by Xbox's exclusive output next gen?
What? No, I play on everything. Looking forward to Series X more than PS5 at this point even
I don't tbh not enough time, but I played most of those on GOTY nomination lists and this game was lacking
A new Shadowrun game would get me to buy a Series X no question.if there is a gaming god it's going to be shadowrun
oh god please please please please be shadowrun
Or due to the multiple output by a single Studio, only a third of the games will be decent.Damn, another Xbox studio working on 3 projects?! Why do I get the feeling that Sony will be caught off-guard by Xbox's exclusive output next gen?
These studios were before already working with different teams. Nothing really changed.Or due to the large output by a single studios, only a third of the games will be decent.
Hopefully MS doesn't burn out the devs by going to hardly any output of new IP on Xbox this gen, to too much. Quality still > quantity.
ToW wasnt AAA tho.Shocking that after making one AAA RPG that they would go ahead and make another AAA RPG. I hope it's better than Outer Worlds because that didnt grab me AT ALL.
You do realize what First-Person focused means, right? The game will support Third-Person, it's just that the game is built around First-Person but there's a toggle for Third-Person with full gameplay capabilities (typically).BECAUSE it's first person, I should say. That's a great way to make sure I don't feel bad about not playing a game.
The tweet referred to later with the day and night cycle mentions is Parker's AAA project. They're not hiring anyone for the DLC as far as I know, it's just being worked on by some of the TOW team. Those job listings are for known projects and unannounced projects. They could move some devs to the DLC of course, but they'd probably just help part-time.Sorry, I was referring to the tweet in the OP, not the AAA game mentioned in the title of the thread.
