Lost: Via Domus was a really weird one. I loved Lost and had to have it... It was awful. I did beat it but I don't remember anything about it besides some crappy puzzles.

24 The Game was also an odd one.
I'll do you one better.

Lost for Ipod.

Not Iphone. Ipod.
Waterworld for the Virtual Boy.

I'm not sure which is stranger - the fact that a big budget movie at the time (and huge flop) only got one video game adaptation, or the fact that that adaptation was only released on one platform, itself a huge flop.
There was apparently a SNES version too.

Battery Check feature the mascot of Stibat, a battery recyling company in the netherlands. The game used the Jazz Jackrabbit 2 engine & could be acquried if you recycled 15 batteries through a promotion

This is actually a sequel to a previous Dune game that was made for the Amiga, MS-DOS and the Mega-CD. It's a mix of a dungeon crawler and 4X game. Made by the same developer as that PS2 game too; Cryo. Cryo was really best know for the MegaRace games for MS-DOS back in the day. The original game was generally well received for its day. but I think the PS2 game was pretty bad, and sunk Cryo.

There is also Dune II The Building of a Dynast/ Battle for Arrakis, which was made by Westwood Studios. It's basically the prototype for Command & Conquer. Which was released for the Amiga, MS-DOS and the Sega Mega Drive/ Genesis.

There are probably some other Dune games out there that I don't know about.

What the hell. That looks like a student project done at the last minute. Was that officially licensed?
It was the same UK (I think) budget publisher as the Beverly Hills Cop game posted earlier in the thread. They put out a bunch of PS2 games in the mid-aughts based on recognizable licenses (also Babe, Jumanji, Xena: Warrior Princess, and maybe some others I'm forgetting) that were well past their prime and probably available for cheap, though apparently not cheap enough to leave much of any money for developing the games themselves

This was one of the, if not the, first NES game I owned.

The last time I bought a video game because the cover looked cool.

How about that time they turned The Wheel of Time book series into a weird FPS game??

Genuinely enjoyed this (hard ass nails) game when it came out. Though I devoured every unreal engine based game back then

Westwood's latter game in the series from 2001 perhaps, or was this the game you meant by Battle for Arrakis?

Battle for Arrakis is the alternate European title for Dune II. It was also the subtitle used for the Mega Drive/ Sega Genesis port of Dune II.

I honestly forgot about Emperor: Battle For Dune. Though, I think the game scored pretty well with reviewers.

There is also Dune 2000, which was a remake of Dune 2 for Windows 9x and the PS1 and uses polygon graphics:

Dammit, yeah, I came to post about the 7-UP spot game, lmao

There were three 7 UP Spot games. There was this one on the NES and original Game Boy:

Then of course, there is Cool Spot, which is really well known. Then there is also Spot Goes To Hollywood for the PS1, Sega saturn and Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive. Which is an isometric action game.

That's so wild. I'm sure I knew about Spot goes to Hollywood but I've totally forgotten it since. Thanks for this post!

One of the first games I played with a mouse back in the day.... Eraser Turnabout...the riveting sequel to the movie.

I mean... there's a rail gun at least?

There is also an unreleased Fido Dido (7up's other old mascot) ROM for the Sega genesis/ Mega Drive floating around. The game was in development for the SNES too. But the studio went out of business before the game could be released.

There are also two Mc Donalds games for the Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive.

Mic and Mac: The Global Gladiatiors. Made by most of the same people that made Cool Spot. This one is also for the game Gear, Master System, and Amiga.

The second game is McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure, which was released exclusively for the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive and developed by Treasure. And it is a really good platformer with great looking graphics.

Shitty Bruce Willis movie got a shitty game that somehow got ported to NES, Gameboy, Amstrad, ZX Spectrum, Amiga, and Commodore

It is rough to play for more than a few minutes due to the music. On the commodore, at least. Never did figure out the objective, you just go around and pick stuff up and put it down again.

The premise was meant to be that you needed to run around the house to be the first one to pack successfully to go on holiday, so you had to find a character-appropriate storage item and then collect essential items. The problem - at least on the Spectrum - was that it was actually impossible to complete, since it was bugged like crazy and a ton of functionality just didn't work.

My own nomination, also from the Speccy era:

If you're into movie tie-ins you should check out Youtuber Minimme.

https://www.youtube.com/user/minimme123

He's this Australian (I think) guy who specialises in looking at movie tie-in games and weird mobile ports. He's carved out such a weird niche for himself but he's great. Love his channel.

On a topical view, his videos seem pretty interesting, the only issue I have is the title of his X-Men Origins Wolverine review video; something to the effect of "this game is somehow a pretty oddly fun game to try." It needs to be titled, "This game is legitimately exceptional, period."

A game based on a TV show that ended ten years ago on the DS. It didn't even release in america where the show aired. Imported this sucker just out of sheer curiousness and because it's my favorite show. Game is beyond bad. It's a mix of a beat um up, if you can even call it that cause there is almost always only a single enemy on screen and like two max, and a FPS. The game barely resembles the license at all. The terribad deviant art for "cut scenes" is embarrasing and the clearly cut copy and pasted TV show promo art is hilarious. "Buffy" is the only character who appears in-game and despite Angel being on the cover art I don't even think he is in it at all lol.

People sleep on the fact that Telltale made a Guardians of the Galaxy game, and it actually is quite good. Feels like a spiritual successor to Tales from the Borderlands

Is it just me that finds Street Fighter the Movie game pretty weird?

A game based on a movie based on a game.
The arcade and home versions are different, too. Arcade is a weird game with a bunch of systems but the home versions are based on Super Turbo.

This is actually the reason he wasn't in the Fifth Element game that came out the same year. Apocalypse is at least better.

In theory, the game based on Alias is a great idea. They even treat the plot as an "episode" happening toward the end of Season 2. And it had most of the cast playing their roles including Jennifer Garner.

But it wasn't great. I like to consider myself the biggest Alias fan ever and I couldn't force myself through it.

And a later episode in Season 5 totally invalidates this story so I doubt they ever wanted it to be canon.

I have never seen this one. I had to look it up...

It's a Mortal Kombat styled fighting game (sans the blood and gore) with digitized graphics and featuring Jackie Chan.

This is actually not true, which further adds to its weirdness. Jackie cannot kill or be killed, but playing as other cast members like Thornsten or Sam will often end in very violent dismemberments, even some of the more absurdist KO animations like being launched into space are purely unavailable against Jackie, but he can do it in return to a non-Jackie opponent

Might have been said already, but the Tom Cruise Mummy flick got a weird metroidvania tie in game that has a killer soundtrack, and looks pretty decent. Still kind of weirds me out.

That is truly interesting. But hey, Jackie Chan was very self conscious about the way he presented himself to the public. He always wanted to be looked at as a 'good guy', so no surprise that he can't be killed and will not be shown depicted killing other people. But it really does add to the weirdness of this game! It looks like a cross between Battle Monsters on the Sega Saturn (I rank it in the "so bad it's good" category) and classic digitized Mortal Kombat. I want to try this one.

It's not that weird for there to be a terrible NES-era platformer based on Garfield. I do find it strange that it was never brought overseas, though.
