It is ''dumb'' to buy a 2070~2080 after this announcement?
Here these new cards are going to be expensive in a way that I can't even explain, so I'm expecting a price drop on the 2000s to get one.

I've never had a gaming PC before, probably going to get a 3080? 3090 is overkill right, with very few games in the next gen taking advantage of 8k or whatever and my display probably not even being able to handle it? Or is it worth getting?
If money is no object go for it but otherwise yeah Id stick to 3080 or 70, they will both be stronger then next gen and more then enough for over 90% of pc gamers even at 4k

Anyone know what kind of PSU the 3080 will be needing?
I remember reading that the gpu's with the new connector like 3080 and 90 will want at least 850w recommend according to the box but realistically for 3080 a 650w or higher should be good unless you're pushing for overclocks then yeah go higher.

Pretty good!

Not interested in any of the GPUs shown today but I'm gonna get a 4900x or whatever this year and consider getting the 3080 Ti/Super next year if they have one. Need to see how Ampere fares once you take out DLSS and RT.

Is there a performance chart for the 3080 to 3090? That's a big price jump. What do we get for it?

How can AMD compete at this point?

Only by doing a much better GPU than the 2080ti priced below 3070

kind of sucks for the people whose GPU budget is at the $300-$400 level

GTX 970 launched at $330
GTX 1070 launched at$ 380

but then rtx 2070 launched at $500 which threw everything out of whack. at least 3070 remains at that $500 point.

Oh damn this is nice...not sure if I need to upgrade my 1080 yet but, MSFS2020 VR might push me over depending on how it performs. Also keen to learn more about the laptop chips as well.

I was readying myself for the 3070 which seems a big hitter, but man the price of the 3080 seems insane (in a good way).

I'm really impressed on how they priced these consoles, it makes me want to build a PC more than getting a next gen console.

This will be the first GPU launch purchase for me. Hoping the stock at local microcenter is decent, though it usually is.

I just need more info on if these have HDMI 2.1 on all cards or not - they mentioned it when the 3090 was up so I'm hoping it's on all 30 series cards.

3060 is going to be the <400 GPU and people will have to wait.

Fuck, I really regret getting a PC when I did. My 2070 Super seems like such a terrible investment compared to even the 3070, and the Ryzen 5 3600 is going to bottleneck the fuck out of a 3070 even if I upgrade.

Goddammit. I'm such a fucking idiot.

Isn't the 3070 launching more powerful than a 2080ti at less than half the price?

Unless you're expecting them to knock 70% off the 2000 series cards then I don't know if it's worth it.

I was expecting the 3090 to be the most impressive, but it ended up being the 3070.

That's a 2080TI for half the price. Meanwhile, beyond the insane amount of memory the top line numbers for the 3090 seem pretty underwhelming against the 3080--especially when it costs twice as much.

This conference was full of surprises.

The price on the 3080 is fantastic...clearly leaving room for a 3080 Ti next year/if AMD comes in hot. It's extremely tempting since I have a 1080 and I'm glad they included it in the presentation so I could get a better judge of the difference but also
3090 - $1500.

I'm getting that shit.
This. 3090 being able to run Control (or anything for that matter) with Ray Tracing at 60fps in 8K is fucking INSANE. The fact that it said that it'll be available from NVIDIA "and partners" is even better since there'll be different/better cooling solutions with boosted clocks (not that it'll need it, lol) It'll be easy enough to wait until it's available and close to MSRP though since I'm waiting for CPU announcements before I start my build.

The 3600 is absolutely not going to bottleneck the 3070

If you can wait for a 3060 then you will know. I would not buy a 2070/2080 new but on the used market might get good prices after the 3000 series is no longer in short supply.

Damn at those performance improvements. Leaving AMD in the dust.. us console peasants are scrapping over 10TF/12TF.

One thing I want to think about is the new data transfer on the DDR6X, which sends two bits at the same time, wouldn't that double the throughput? 1520GB/s vs 760GB/s?

Console secret sauce hardware decompression is the biggest suprise for me, and very welcome.

When you consider the leap in RT performance is even higher and that DLSS offers a further 2-3x performance improvement, Nvidia have straight up skipped an entire console generation here.

In RT heavy titles with DLSS like Cyberpunk it is going to be a complete bloodbath. Legitimate PS6 level performance before the PS5 has released. The biggest gap between PC and console hardware at launch we've ever seen.

Dat 3070 is probably the right call, but I'm tempted by the 3080. It's less expensive that I thought.
This is why you come in on the 2nd wave folks. What a leap from my 1080 Ti both the 3070 and the 3080 will be.

you're not going to be bottlenecked
