Yes PCIe is backwards and forwards compatible. It will run at PCIe 3 speeds on a PCIe 3 slot. This will result in a small (1-3%) performance drop but nothing worth building a whole new PC for.
We won't know until reviews and benchmarks hit but for what it's worth, on the graphs they showed during the presentation, they used an Intel CPU so they had to be using PCIE 3.0 since Intel doesn't support 4.0.
Oh alright, so PCIe 3 isn't saturated by these cards.

This is rad. My 2070 Super is fine for now, though. I will eventually upgrade and replace my 970 in my media server this my 2070. But right now, I'm not pushing my system in any meaningful way that merits a card like that yet.

Welp, after studying all day, I had to concede that the 3090 would not fit into my antec striker case. Ive got the Thermaltake P3 on order. After this, and the Ryzen 4 series I'm done with pc upgrades for a WHILE 😂

Mistake post!

But I'll try to save it by saying I'm getting the 3080. 3090 was really tempting, but the perf/$ is just too poor. If it'd landed a couple hundred bucks cheaper I might have done it.

I had previously said I would literally buy any available 3080, but... this card changed my mind.

All my friends told me to go with tempered glass cases, but cards like this are why I don't. If the performance and price is right I will get the ugliest RGB vomit because that shit is hidden behind a solid panel.

I am also too lazy to do good looking cable management. Okay, that's the real reason. But not caring about how ugly the parts are is a bonus.

I'll choose between whichever 3080s review the best, don't really care about the looks since it's going to be in a case that despite the tempered glass window, I'm not going to be staring at it.

Yep I'm getting a 3070 or a 3080 depending on pricing in Australia. Time to retire my 1070.

Yeah- tempered window is kind of a waste unless you've got a custom loop to show off, IMO. No one wants to look at your AIO or your giant metal heatsink and fans.

God, why does the 3070 cost US$700 in Japan?

My dream of a $400 3060 is dead.
I feel you. This stuff is crazy here in Korea too. I don't understand the several hundred dollar price differences, it's freaking ridiculous. It's actually cheaper for me to order stuff from Amazon America and have it shipped than to get it here.

The 3080 FE is two slot, and the EVGA lineup has the HYBRID line at 2 slot (but will be coming later) and the XC3 is 2.2 slots
If the 3080 is two slot, then 3070 definitely is.

I wonder how the FE cards would hold up in the H1 case, though. The case isn't really set up for an intake/exhaust card, I don't think.

It's crazy the low-end card outperforms the 2080TI.

Normally Nvidia uses the xx70 models to outperform the previous gen's xx70 models, and stay a tad below the basic xx80 models from the previous gen.

This time their xx70 model outperforms last Gen's xx80TI model, which is nuts.

no its been prity normal for sevral gens now for xx70 to beat last gens high end gpu. for example the 1070 beat the 980ti.

(AORUS not bringing the heat so far on RGB...)

The ASUS STRIX models look pretty interesting.
I think anyone worried or paranoid about if their 600 or 650W is enough to handle a 3070 or 3080 would be really interested in that as a hardware way to either confirm or deny their fears. I mean with my Corsair 650W it's enough that I would buy the card first and see.

I honestly find all AIB solutions so far really ugly haha. Rarely happens.

FE is clean as fuck comparatively.

I haven't been in the PC part game for a while, so I was fucking flabbergasted to see that my GTX 1080 has a 180W TDP compared to 320W for the 3080. That would get my office real toasty, and I probably wouldn't even want to run that on my 650W PSU

Oh and yeah, the starting price of the 3080 is going to more likely be around $800 like last time outside of crappy blower cards.

Sigh.. the 3090 is tempting me since I want 4k 120fps with max settings for my games. Maybe the 3080 will be able to achieve that.. I need those benchmarks.

So, do we have any idea when pre-orders will become available? I'm really hoping to snag one of the official nvidia cards but I don't get paid until Friday.

Oh man, I'm going for that 3080. It's going to be miles above my current 680.

Is it feasible for a small build?

I wonder how all these cards will affect the thermals in my planned build with the O11 Dynamic.

Vertical GPU mount, 3 bottom/side intake fans, 3 top exhaust fans plus 360MM aio and no Rear fan and GPU blowing hot air into the PCI-E slots and my M.2 I/O shield/ B550 Chipset of my rog strix e gaming :thinking. 🤔
