What are some good comparison examples of how this would look on old games? I've seen some videos on this tech but for new games and I'm not quite sure of how it would benefit classic games.
I would play the shit out of a remake of any titles in the first half of your list. Especially Half-Life 2 and Deus Ex.This is the best news I've heard all year.
My wishlist is huge.
System Shock 2
Doom 3
Deus Ex
Half-Life 2
Unreal
Morrowind
Oblivion
Unreal Tournament 99
Quake III Arena
Mechwarrior 2/3

WOW Classic please. My 9900k and 1080 Ti is running things flawlessy at 1080p 144hz. Make it work.
Here's a quick comparison for Quake 2. The difference can be quite dramatic in some parts.
Diablo like in... Diablo 3? I don't think that game would benefit from raytracing.
I want the Classic experience, man! Only with G-sync, 144hz added.Off-topic, but why wouldn't you downsample using the in-game resolution scaling? I'm playing at 5k downsampled to 1440p and it's still running at 120-144 fps on a Titan X Pascal.
Better and natural lights, ray traced explosions and enhanced shadows will look nice.
Let me dream, the first Diablo is my favorite game ever and i want to see more.
Why not all three and finish 3 for EA while they're at it, lol.
Yea, but what I'm saying is that Quake 2 RTX only happened because the source code was released. In the case of Quake II, it was free, and you can either play a few demo levels, or load your existing Quake 2 installation into the RTX version. So presumably future games would do the same, meaning you have to won/ buy them to enjoy the RTX features.
Ray tracing would be transformative in the extreme for Doom 3.

That would be awesome. Either way... I'm interested in which games they'll choose.i would assume that these would largely be ports where they work with the IP owners, as they create new sales potential for these games. So they could get whatever they need in terms of assets and code from the respective partners.
I want: Beyond Good and Evil
I want that emulator on Switch and would buy lots of Gamecube and Wii games again (also they could bring Baten Kaitos 1-2, thesecond was never released in europe :( )
I would rather remasters of this games than emulations. For Galaxy it will would be strange anyway, one great feature was the pointer controls to collect stars, sometimes you had to do whole different things with your right and left hand, can not be reproduce with a normal gamepad, but with Joy cons it should be possible.
photorealism isn't the only thing that benefits from raytracing. every cgi movie that hit the theaters now use raytracingreally don't see the point? these games aren't photorealistic. like, having a studio working on this seems a waste? i guess it's just a marketing thing to nvidia but...still

They're basically remasters, what's your point?yes I know but I don't feel this adds anything other than a gimmick that will stop being cool after 5 minutes

you can say that about pretty much every graphical technique.yes I know but I don't feel this adds anything other than a gimmick that will stop being cool after 5 minutes
With RTX features enabled? Probably not even close. Had to run Control at 720p with a 1080 Ti and even there, framerate was all over the place. Quake 2 ran awful too.Hmmmm. I wonder what my 7thGen I7 GTX 1080 could do.
1080p 60fps???? >_<
It's pretty transformative. It's not just reflections. Accurate lighting makes a huge difference in how a game looks.yes I know but I don't feel this adds anything other than a gimmick that will stop being cool after 5 minutes
Diablo 3's art style is an odd one though, focused on almost oil painted backgrounds with more realistic models in the middle of it all, it reminds me of some animated movies. Im not sure if ray tracing would work well with it but it would be fun to see more games with it.Why not global illumination helped out Poe immensely. The lighting in d3 can be flat raytracing would make it more dynamic, god forbid you kill a shitload of mobs though.

having dynamic ray traced shadows for the whole scene would look nice, but yeah as you said, the framerate will go bye bye.it's not the art style it's the shadows and effects that would get the most pop.
D3 would look fantastic with path traced global illumination and shadows, like most games.Diablo 3's art style is an odd one though, focused on almost oil painted backgrounds with more realistic models in the middle of it all, it reminds me of some animated movies. Oh god, I'd love to see the first two Thief games like this. It would have to be handled with care, though, considering how closely shadows are tied into moment-to-moment gameplay.
