Are these 'dont buy if you're not 4K' reviewers taking into account 165hz screens?

This thing runs RDRII at 72fps average in 1440, sounds about ideal for that.

Does seem utterly wasted on stuff like Doom Eternal tho.

Doesn't look like i need to replace my EVGA XC Ultra 2080 Super for another 2-3 years. Cool, now i just need ryzen 3

Any word on whether the FE fan setup is going to be problematic for air cooled CPUs? Hoping some reviews touch on this, but am not able to watch them today.

Hmmm... so something like 20% performance gain over the 2080ti on average, correct? Don't know if I'm going to upgrade then ...

Judging from the comments here and some of the reviews ive read.... no.

OUCH! Guess Im sticking with my 2080 Ti :)

This is really CPU bound. I don't think this will be fixed until they implement DirectX12

It's good and bad that there is not much OC potential and performance difference. So you get great performance even without OC, but with AIB you pay extra just for at most +100mhz? We will see tomorrow if thats the case.
So a ROG Strix e.g. with 3x8pin power supply has to push absurd amount of watt into the card to get some OC benefits.

Hardware Unboxed found only 22% improvement from a 2080 Ti @ 1440p, which is woefully short of the expectations set by Digital Foundry's underhanded and cherry pickeded benches.

the new SM configuration may play part in the 1440p results being less impressive than 4k.
While yes, in some cases it's clearly caused by cpu limit, its definitely not all cases.

I can't even imagine overclocking these things. 350W power consumption is absolutely ludicrous. Do people really want to push these to 450W? The heat and noise will be absurd.

So, regular 1440p seems to be a negligible area for those wanting to upgrade, but since 3440x1440 is pretty much close in processing power as 4K, I'm assuming those of us using Ultrawide will see a huge benefit?
Everyone will see a huge benefit once next gen games will arrive on PC.
The card is severely CPU limited right now in everything below 4K.

Hype got to me, im not massively impressed. I sold my card for 530 pounds atleast...and Im currently running a 1070Ti..so I can afford for to wait for big navi and see how it goes.

also, digitalfoundry's game selection is so bad lmao
they really need to update it. Fuck, who cares about AC Unity or Wildlands at this point? Sure, they're still demanding but I feel like they're missing so many current titles

Yeah, just going to wait for the 3070, don't think the 3080 is worth the 200$ more if I am just playing at 1440p.

22% improvement in 1440p in a card that is hundreds of dollars cheaper than the Ti is good imo.

Especially again when the 3080 isn't really the gen on gen upgrade from Ti, it's the 3090. It's going to be interesting to see how that perform vs 2080 Ti.

Sounds great for someone like me who's upgrading from a literal decade old GPU.

The margins drop off a cliff when you overclock the 3080 and the 2080TI. As predicted.

The 3080 doesnt have much power headroom, but the 2080TI did, which allows it to close the gap.

But that's FE vs AIB. So... let's wait for some AIB reviews I guess.

Seems pretty cherry picked. OC vs OC it was still usually 15-20% faster in the GN review vs the 2080 ti in most titles.

It does give pause for people who don't plan to game at 4K.

JayzTwoCents says it doesn't negatively impact the CPU at all.
The card blows warmish air but nothing harmful. The FE cooling solution looks like a real winner.

oh man, going from a 980 ti to a 3080 will be quite something!

i only play 1080 but being to play everything at 120 fps (or at least a lot of them) will be amazing

Can't wait

This seems perfect for 1440p/144hz
4K still not worth it to me. Coming from a 1080 it is a substantial upgrade. Obviously from a 2080ti it wouldn't be that huge of a jump. The best card from previous series is never much worse than the next flagship card. Not surprising to me. Skip a generation at least and get a bigger upgrade later.

Great benchmarks all around.

That 12 pin adapter sticks like a sore thumb though. should have been longer so it can easily be hidden.

I have to wait for 3070 benchmarks to see if its worth upgrading from 970 to 3070 or 3080 for 1440p 144hz. I can wait until Cyberpunk.

I got a 2070 Super a few months ago so I could update to this. I don't care I am getting a minimum of 50% extra performance anyway haha.

I'm rocking a 1080 so this would still be a massive improvement by simply allowing me to enable ray tracing and DLSS 2.0 where it's available, but I gotta say that the age old adage of "wait for benchmarks" that I neglected this time around came back to bite me in the ass
