Longtime Climate Science Denier Hired At NOAA

David Legates, a professor whose research has been supported by fossil fuel companies, has been hired for a top position at the federal agency that oversees weather and climate forecasting.

David Legates, a University of Delaware professor of climatology who has spent much of his career questioning basic tenets of climate science, has been hired for a top position at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Legates has a long history of using his position as an academic scientist to publicly cast doubt on climate science. His appointment to NOAA comes as Americans face profound threats stoked by climate change, from the vast, deadly wildfires in the West to an unusually active hurricane season in the South and East.

As user plagiarize has pointed out (post #3), this follows a familiar pattern where Trump continues to hire climate science deniers to lead administrations that play a key role in conducting our nation's climate and Earth science studies. Namely, Trump previously appointed Oklahoma Republican politician Scott Pruitt to head the EPA, and Oklahoma congressman Jim Bridenstine as administrator of NASA.

It's almost like Trump Admin is trying to maximize damage to the country before the election.

More like, Trump continues to hire the most poisonous person for the job running an agency he doesn't like.

He's been doing this stuff almost since day one. Remember the EPA?
Yup, Scott Pruitt. Terrible, terrible decision for the country.

This is important context which I should have originally included. I have modified the OP to reflect this

Because he knows that lying is more profitable for him then telling the truth. That's the whole appeal of grifting.
