With growth of 136% when compared to the same month in 2019, the Nintendo Switch family of systems saw its strongest October sales yet, with more than 735,000 units sold between Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite in the U.S. According to numbers provided by NPD, the October 2020 sales of Nintendo Switch are the second-highest October sales of any video game console in history, only outdone by the 807,000 units sold of the Wii system in October 2008.

October continues a record-setting streak for Nintendo Switch as the best-selling video game console for 23 consecutive months – the most months in a row for any video game console since NPD started tracking sales numbers. To date, Nintendo Switch has sold more than 22.5 million units in the U.S., according to NPD. And according to internal Nintendo data, Nintendo Switch has sold-in more than 63 million units worldwide.

To give some context:

736 000 Switch sold in the US in October

2nd best October in US history

Best October of the gen until then was the PS4 in 2018 with 342 000 units sold

I last saw the AC Switch restocked at the Target near my house but haven't seen it since. People are buying them as soon as they're restocked.

And unlike Wii I reckon Switch won't suddenly fall of a cliff....it has all the signs of tremendous consistency frankly....with big games still to come. If Nintendo doesn't end its lifespan quickly perhaps we will finally have a console to dethrone PS2's sales?

Looking forward to 2021. My Switch has been relatively dormant this year outside of AC for like a month straight. Hopefully next year we get BotW 2.

Mat was right that Switch's insane momentum lately is understated within the next-gen craze. Its current levels of success would be seen as holy-shit-worthy by every conceivable metric if it weren't for the news cycle of upcoming console launches being more appealing to an onlooker.

I'm pretty sure by this point the Wii was already in its free fall
