So now that FF7 RE part 1 has been out, would y'all be interested in more remakes in the same vein or as a whole game?

The only other FF game that needs a remake is VI. I'd rather they make new entries after that.

They released a completely different kind of remake in the same month (Trials of Mana).

I don't mind more episodic remakes as long as they are not like the VII Remake.

which means, I don't want them shitting on the original plots.

I don't know what to vote, because I love FFVII Remake Pt. 1 so much that I want the devs to devote all of their resources to the remaining parts before taking on any additional remake projects.

I don't mind more episodic remakes as long as they are not like the VII Remake.

which means, I don't want them shitting on the original plots.
Fantastic news: Remake enhances the original plot, so you've got nothing to worry about.

A literal 1:1 retelling with zero ambition, freshness, and mystery would have bored everyone after Pt. 1, guaranteed. Maybe wait to lament the plot being "shit" on until you've seen how the events of part 2 are handled. That'll be the real test.

After FFVIIR I want FFVIIIR and FFIXR. Maybe not as much of a departure, but more of a faithful remake with cutting edge graphics and faithful gameplay.

Really I want to play FFVIII and FFIX as they are, just on UE5.

FFVIIR should be the only "Remake" in the sense of it's departure of it's original story. That being said, I'm still under the impression it will eventually tie back down to it's original story, just in a modified way.

theoretically yeah i guess but you'd be going for broke with a bunch of FF7R scale productions

though RE2 and 3 are a thing, as is Demons Souls so i guess we'd have to revisit "state of the remake" in a few years

We'd probably be speaking in terms of 2030s projects at that point and I'd prefer not to crane my neck quite so far into the future. But sure, I mean, I adore FFVII Remake thus far and I wouldn't mind seeing similar treatment given to at least FFVI.

Yes and no.

Yes because sure, a high budget remake instead of an hd release is a great thing when done well.

No because no other game in SE repertoire, and almost in the industry in its entirety, can get the same treatment as VII, so I see it as a special case.

Hell no, don't want a bloated FFVI. Just focus on new games please.

Disagree completely, but opinions and all of that.

No. There have been spectacular remakes outside of just FFVII Remake, and I think FFVII Remake on the whole is quite great, but I'd rather they just continue with VII Remake, wrap it up, and move onto new non-remake projects.

I get that some other FF games in particular are crazy beloved but I think VII had a very special history that gave it a lot more headroom for a remake to me personally. The rest are fine in their original forms and I don't think they stand to gain as much from being rebuilt on modern tech and design principles quite as much as VII does. VII is a uniquely beloved cultural artifact in a series that has a bunch of beloved entries, and a specific history of remake requests and teases that makes its own remake reality stand out IMO.

With all that padding and ridiculous ending they put to close Midgard ? Nope and nope.

I don't want them to do the other FF7R episodes and i don't want them to touch other FFs before X (X and after, i don't care). Keep Nomura the fuck away from the Final Fantasy games that i love. Please.

No. Stop. FFVI deserves a remake but FF7R is taking too long and they're padding for time.

Even though a lot of people have come around on FF7R's part 1 ending, I still don't trust Nomura. Especially looking at the mess that is Kingdom Hearts story.

Gimme those Tactics and Chrono Cross remasters tho.

Not if they're going to turn them all in to an Unchartedesque version of the games. IMO that is what they did with VII. Ultimately I thought it was okay just didn't 'feel' like a Final Fantasy.

I'd like FFVI in the style of Octopath though.

Not their big RPG's, gimme the smaller titles that were awesome back in the day and could find a new found franchise/interest these days.

Talking:
Parasite Eve
Brave Fencer Mushashi
Threads of Fate

and so on.

Big decade spanning projects is what Square Enix does not need to be doing anymore imo. 7 is great but its gonna be 15 years before this is done.

I assume by "they" you mean Square Enix, but FF7R is like the most Nomura-ass Nomura game of all time. He's a unique entity and I can't see any other game getting this sort of treatment.

I prefer what they did with Trials of Mana anyway. I'd love a remake of Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross in that style.

Before FF7R I woulda said hell yeah, now... no, not really, not if they're gonna be like FF7R, at least. Every part I loved about FF7R was when it was following the original, every part I hated was when they tried to veer it off course to keep things "interesting" or w/e, and as a result I've walked away ultimately disliking the game. I really don't want to see future remakes of other games where they toy around with the plot like that. And I mean, I wouldn't demand or even necessarily want something 1:1, but I would want it to actually be faithful. So for now I think I'd just prefer really fancy and nice remasters (god do I hope they'll eventually redo X's uglyass remaster jflk;dasd) and more new games instead.

Voted no. I love FFVIIR but this stuff is taking too long. I'd rather have them dedicate these resources towards new games.

As someone who wasn't really on board with the need to do big budget remakes begin with, Part 1 has done little to change my mind. I had a few concerns coming in, being that the episodic structure would lead to padding, that they'd be spending a solid decade on finishing the remake, that they'd turn it into an action game, and the game's direction would be reinterpreted through the same lens as modern Final Fantasy titles, which I haven't really been a fan of. Save for the dev-time, that's pretty much exactly what we got, and it remains to be seen how long it'll take for them to finish all parts.

Being kinda cold on the original FF7 probably plays part in my sour grapes attitude I'll admit. Knowing they're chained to this project for lord knows how long, just means the company has fewer resources to dedicate to my interests. The other thing is that the project isn't even satiating everyone's need for another FF7 remake. Some are already thirsting for a new, more faithful one, I can only expect that sentiment to be amplified as time goes on.

Would only take complete versions and ones that don't add lots of new crap. If they'd kept FFVIIR to one game and left out all the crappy additions and padding it would have been glorious. I'm not even sure I want to bother with the next parts unless they finish the game off with just one more and there's no padding or awful changes.

Only if it's a faithful remake and not multipart. They can fix up some things like the whole Xenogears 2nd disc, and FFIX having a slower battle system, otherwise do a some what middle budget remake and it'll be fine.

i have no interest playing games from that team so even if they remake a game i love (i.e. FF6) it wouldn't bother me.

No please, "ruining" (original game exists and it's far better than the remake) a single FF game should be enough.

I mean, if they release a "realistic" (less cinematics, less padding, less budget) remake of Chrono Trigger or FF VI, it would be happy, but the games are already there and can be played, so a new FF game that doesn't suck should be their priority and the thing I would enjoy the most.

Let's finish first VII though.

I feel like a Xenogears remake should be done by Monolith, not Squenix.

Otherwise, I would rather have new games. I really enjoyed FFVIIR and was a full believer up till about Chapter 16, but the subsequent...everything, and general episodic nature of a single game being drawn out over years and years, is not worth it.

Let em finish FF7R first.

In the meantime, just send me a pack of the SNES RPGs in one collection (with an option to have the original sprites, if they insist on having the new ones), and the PS RPGs in another collection with the QOL improvements from IX.

Though to be fair, still rocking my PS3/Vita/PSTV and can play all except IV, which I can buy for PSP, I suppose.

Eh, whatever, pick a project and finish it lol

Basically this. I think you should only remake games, where you can deliver a sort of new game+ experience.
I can't explain it well but, I'd say no to the following: Chrono Trigger, FFVI, FFVIII, FFIX. I think they already feel complete and there is not so much to gain from remaking them.
On the other hand yes to: FFIV and FFV. Mostly FFIV, as I think its potential is as big as FFVII. The scope and amount of varied places is just as crazy, and maybe even more interesting than FFVII.

No. To me the pacing of the game feels like watching Dressrosa arc in One Piece.

But if it was a much simpler remake in one single part, sure.

Remake Xenogears, but with ArcSys style cel shading to mimic 2D artwork.

Or ideally, Parasite Eve. Use it as the groundwork for a franchise reboot.

Came here to say something along that line.

Parasite Eve in particular would be amazing in a remake.

Very divisive topic, clearly. My 2 cents: I'm really happy with how it's being handled. A perfectly faithful remake would have been a huge waste.

I'm about to finish 7R and the way this game makes me feel is something i have been missing in gaming for a long time in any RPG.
Even though it's very linear, the side quests aren't that great; the environments are amazing, the graphics blow me away, the characters are all likeable and the battle system is fun.

The square enix clunk is still there, but the charm and effort put into the FF7 world makes it worth it.
Imagining a FF9 or 6 getting this treatment, ooofff...
