I think most of us agree that this trilogy has been a bit of a mess. The Force Awakens was well crafted but took very few risks, and may be remembered as being a bit faceless because of it. The Last Jedi took all of the questions and themes of The Force Awakens and moved them in unexpected and controversial directions. The Rise of Skywalker tried to cram 2-3 movies worth of content into 1 film and attempted to undo many of the changes The Last Jedi laid down.

So what's your favorite? My vote goes to The Last Jedi. I loved the idea of Rey being a nobody and the way it explored her fears around that, I loved the depiction of the force, I loved the theme of hope, I loved the character arcs, it was beautifully shot, and it took Star Wars in a bold and new direction that The Rise of Skywalker unfortunately squashed.

The Force Awakens. I'd have preferred a sequel trilogy that didn't rely on a soft reboot but be that as it may, I loved the characters and how they were introduced and I feel like it set up some good possibilities to build off of.

TLJ, and by a good bit. Rewatched I-VIII ahead of IX, and it's a stunning film from a cinematography, plotting, and editing. Sure, canto bight was a bit overlong, but not as bad on rewatch.

Before, I would have said TFA (it's a really solid, fun, well-paced film), but TROS made me appreciate TLJ and its themes all the more.

I don't like any of them but I adore Holdo's hyper speed crash, so tlj by default.

The first is a sugary sweet corporate product that tastes good but has no substance, that sets the trilogy off on the wrong foot with a rehashed premise that erases everything the heroes fought for in the earlier films.

The second is an actual Film, rough around the edges but full of heart, interesting themes and concepts, and fascinating visuals, not afraid to question the sacred truths of Star Wars even if we don't want it to.

The third is a directing, writing, and editing disaster so concerned with erasing the previous film that it forgets to create a story of its own.

The Last Jedi. And i'm not trolling.

TFA is nice but it's just a vague remake of ANH.

And the last one is "fine". Not bad but void of anything really interesting. It's a pure marketing pîece that forgot it was to be a movie or take place in a set universe.

TLJ, despite all it's flaws is a better movie, a better film. It look like something that belongs in a cinema.

None of them were better than halfway decent, but I'd give the nod to TLJ for wanting to do more than jerk-off fans of the original trilogy like Abrams's movies.

Rian's work was wildly inconsistent, but the best parts shat on anything in TFA or RoS.

TLJ by far. It has the best scenes in the trilogy. Some of the best scenes in Star Wars, imo.

The Last Jedi is my headcanon ending now.
I think that may be how I'll have to look at it as well. I was so high on this trilogy leading into Ep IX, and this is something I almost never relate to when people say it, but IX managed to somehow sour the other films for me a bit. Probably best to disregard it. It was fun for what it was but as the conclusion to the 9 film SW saga? Hell no. It felt like the highest budget fan film ever made.

I think The Force Awakens is the only one that has that feeling of... potential in it. It's not the most original movie ever but it has a sort of infectious wonder to it.

TFA - I know it's a rehash of ANH, but I actually really enjoyed this one. Loved the introduction to the new characters and it rest set the trilogy off to a great start.

TLJ - has an incoherent story and poor pacing. I liked the throne room fight and didn't hate what they did with Luke, but overall it was a bit shit.

TROS is just poor. Less said about it the better.

The Force Awakens. My biggest gripe then (and still) was it played too safe. People called it a modern remake/reimagining/retelling of A New Hope for reason. So that's actually a bad thing. But when you compare that with the awful new things that TLJ and especially TRoS brought to the table, I can't help but actually prefer it when the sequel trilogy started off as a tribute instead of this... poorly executed, new thing.

We have a saying in Dutch that roughly translated means, "it's better to steal something good than to come up with something bad". TFA was okay, TLJ was mediocre, TRoS was terrible.

Not America
Honestly, I did not like TLJ but upon rewatching it twice, it really holds up better than any of the other two movies, esp. the last one, by a country mile.

TLJ is going to win this poll because it is the best one by far.

Second best SW film. We didn't deserve Rian.

That's a pretty great saying. I dig it.

TFA!

While it was a gigantic ass rehash, it introduced some new characters and restarted the Starwars craze.

Rey and Finn were really nice addictions while Kylo was an embarrassment.

Too bad the franchise crashed and burned so hard though...

The Last Jedi. In fact, for me, RoS never happened.

Well let's see, The Last Jedi nothing anybody does makes any logical sense and there's an entire side story on the Casino planet that amounts to nothing in relation to the rest of the film.

Rise of Skywalker there's about a thousand different things going on and it has to rush through them and it's extremely messy and it never takes a moment to breath.

That leaves Force Awakens being the best of the bunch by merely not having people do dumb stuff and being more simplistic in its story.

The Last Jedi > Rise of Skywalker > Force Awakens

I love all of them though, it was a great trilogy.

Best Star Wars overall is still Return of the Jedi though.

Force Awakens is lightyears ahead of the others. Last Jedi has a ton of problems, Rise of Skywalker is a goddamn mess.

TLJ is the most interesting movie imo. It had some great idea's (and a few terrible ones)

TFA is waaaaay too safe and therefore boring

TROS is just plain bad

Pretty much my thoughts. TLJ felt like it was trying to do something interesting whereas the Abrams movies felt way too slavishly dedicated to repeating the tropes and feel of the original trilogy to a "paint-by-numbers" fault.

Which unfortunately makes TLJ "devisive" because I guess people just want to see the pew pew and vroom and cutesy puppets.
