As someone going through that exact experience on multiple levels (I WFH because I can WFH unlike some employees and I go into the office periodically because of responsibilities): it sucks, but just be happy that means you are essential and have a LOT more job security than most of your coworkers.

This is true, and I'll work from home if asked, but I still think it's reckless considering that we live in a city where the virus is currently actively spreading, and I'd hardly consider what we do to be essential.

Tasmania, Australia just announced that all people coming into the state need to self-quarantine for 14 days after midnight on Friday night, and if you're found breaking self-quarantine you face 6 months prison time

To think a few months ago I was looking at SARS and how huge the 800 death number seemed, and now more people die in a day from COVID-19 than they died from SARS in an entire year.

My one hope is that this crisis will end up having a couple of silver linings.

1. The reduction in pollution is staggering. Pictures of Venice canals being clear, the huge drop in CO2 output. Maybe people will realize we can make a difference and the mobilization we see for COVID will be used to address climate change. Hell I saw one researcher say the drop in pollution alone might end up saving lives.

2. The healthcare and social services and how fragile our economy is will become clear. The trump administraiton is resorting to enacting policies they would say are socialist/communist any other time. After all this clears there will hopefully be a reneweed interest.

Not sure if there are other mental health professionals here. (I'm sure this applies to other professionals too).

I'm a mental health therapist and the government is temporarily waiving penalties for potential HIPAA violations. So we can call clients with regular apps (Im using google voice) - helpful for me because my organization did not have any virtual option for me to reach out to clients in this difficult time.

people are still being detained in the philly situation, and being served warrants for a later date. Officers will still respond

That's good.

Like 3/4ths of those offensives are non-violent and it's not a big deal. They can chill on arresting for drug offenses and prostitution. But not responding to burglary or auto theft or theft from persons basically opens up crime against pedestrians/people in their homes, which is not.good.

Jesus holy shit. That's intense.

It's an island so, it's kind of easier to implement that kind of border measure, but also if things really take off in the state (We have 10 cases in the state), it could be really nasty because of being an island + our health system is defined as 'rural', so we don't have super good facilities to treat things, and a lot of people get sent to mainland Australia for treatments

Dumb question but if you have had it in the past, but not now, would you still test positive?

You would not test positive unless you still had it. Whether you can catch it again is up for debate. There have been a few cases but it is uncertain whether they actually got it again or the virus just wasn't completely gone from their body. The tests don't work perfectly every time.

I regarding tests and getting over Corona, we had a patient in Denmark who had been sick and then recovered.he had felt absolutely fine for a whole week but still tested positive. So there is a period of time oth at the beginning and the end where you have not symptoms but are still contagious. Since several sources have theorised that how sick you get is linked to how much of the virus you are exposed to, the reason why someone gets "reinfected" might just be that the remains of the virus in their body gets a boost from new exposure.

According to the European Commission's disinformation squad, Russia and sources close to Kreml are busy sowing misinformation about the virus in European and US circles to further their "divide and conquer" geopolitical goals. Really so frustrating to see that Russian leadership continues to behave in such a way.

Given the dire situation the world finds itself in I think they should get one warning and then a kinetic response after. This kind of thing is far too dangerous now for this kind of fuckery.

This'll be fun once the poorest nations are overrun. Between Africa, the middle-east, and India, that's over 3 billion people not under strict quarantine rules while completely lacking in health care support.

You know what really frustrates me about shit like this? Beyond just crying about it publicly the political leaders wont do shit about it. If there's 1 country out there which deserves to have its economy sanctioned to hell and back it's Russia.

99% of Those Who Died From Virus Had Other Illness, Italy Says

More than 99% of Italy’s coronavirus fatalities were people who suffered from previous medical conditions, according to a study by the country’s national health authority.

How wide of a definition do they have for this though?

edit: this is terrifying

If I'm recalling it right, europeans need the gas or they will freeze to death. And americans have Trump at the helm, so no need for further explanation there.

Until that changes I don't see anyone taking extreme measures.

Number 1 is very unlikely, things are gonna be exactly the same.on the regard as soon as the crisis is over.

Number 2 might happen because the populations themselves will probably lean more towards leftist governments, out of sheer necessity. Maybe that's wishful thinking, but a huge crisis like this is what needed to happen for people to realize how unfair things have been during this right-wing wave.

Are you suggesting a war during a global pandemic.

I'm suggesting that if a troll farm is spamming dangerous misinformation that could cause this to spread further, that troll farm building shouldn't exist anymore if its a centralized location. This misinformation nonsense has to stop by any means. Last resort to be sure but it shouldn't be off the table.

Honestly I wouldn't mind a once a month lock down of monday-friday to help the environment if only a little bit.

I think I need to get back on Xanax. My chronic anxiety already makes it hard to breathe with panic attacks, I don't want that shit interfering with some actual respiratory issues I may have if I get it.

Also what truly constitutes an underlying health condition, is pre-hypertension gonna be a problem?

Yeah but it isn't actually hard to understand his headspace given he's a GOP shill. Millions of Americans do die every year in the name of corporate profits (obesity, pollution, gun violence, lack of adequate health insurance, etc).

They are cartoon villians all the time.

Can't read Italian but I think people should be able make out most of them - ischemic heart damage, atrial fibrillation, stroke, hypertension, diabetes, dementia, renal insufficiency, chronic liver diseases, COPD and then I don't know about the last one.

Edit: looked it up and it's active cancer in the last five years

Of the world population this would only mean about 150 million. Its nothing, just 2 world wars combined and then some.

So NBC played this during the nightly news but why the fuck wasn't anybody interviewing the fucking government of Florida? They are even more liable in this situation. If you allow things to be open. Guess what? People will probably fucking go to them.

Floridaman here your preaching to the choir. They are more worried about money than people.

This credit union didn't even close up after they had a case. Nobody down here taking it seriously enough other than buying out the stores in TP.

Don'T know about that, yes the reduction in pollution is high now, but the expenses may mean that green project/tech are abandoned...
