I have an elderly extended family member in Germany. Is there something like InstaCart in Berlin to deliver food?

Yep. Took a nap today while the kids napped and dreamed I had corona symptoms and chills. Woke up and had a 99.1 temperature (no chills) temp again 5 minutes later was normal and hasn't gone up. I was just warm from the weighted blanket and comforter.

I have a dry cough that is VERY mild. I'm also one that suffers from both seasonal and cat (we have 2) allergies.
Yeah allergies have only been normal for me for the last 2 years so I have no idea. Also religiously checking my temp (normal for the last week).

Pretty sure i've been using nasacort wrong too so I've been basically giving myself a sore throat.

Mexico jumped from 26 confirmed cases yesterday to 41 tonight.
Numbers are going to be interesting after Vive Latino. Even if all the assholes who attended that fucking concert just grab a mild "flu", they're gonna kill a lot of people around them by using public transportation and hanging out like a pandemic isn't going on.

I really hate Mexico right now. La gente está bien pendeja y al chile que se los lleve la verga, a los demás qué? Vamos a ocupar fosas comunes a este ritmo.

I don't think using recovered vs dead in closed cases is a good metric for the CFR. Lot of people who get covid-19 no matter the outcome will be not counted as a case.

Why the absolute fuck did mayors and governors not mandate the close of bars knowing St. Paddy's day was coming?

Yep. Unfortunately it's gonna take an Italy situation which is inevitable for people to take it seriously.. or for it to affect a loved one

They need to send these folks home or to jail by force if they won't leave. These people are going to be responsible for spreading it and killing people who are forced to work through this.

Some positive news: there are at least 3 promising treatments (chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, and remdesivir) being trialed for certain hospitalized patients.

An Effective Treatment for Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Summary

Recent guidelines from South Korea and China report that chloroquine is an effective antiviral therapeutic treatment against Coronavirus Disease 2019. Use of chloroquine (tablets) is showing favorable outcomes in humans infected with Coronavirus including faster time to recovery and shorter hospital stay. US CDC research shows that chloroquine also has strong potential as a prophylactic (preventative) measure against coronavirus in the lab, while we wait for a vaccine to be developed. Chloroquine is an inexpensive, globally available drug that has been in widespread human use since 1945 against malaria, autoimmune and various other conditions.

NIH clinical trial of remdesivir to treat COVID-19 begins (Back in late February)
A randomized, controlled clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the investigational antiviral remdesivir in hospitalized adults diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has begun at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha. The trial regulatory sponsor is the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health. This is the first clinical trial in the United States to evaluate an experimental treatment for COVID-19, the respiratory disease first detected in December 2019 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.

U.S. ARMY GUIDANCE — COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS
What is the treatment for COVID-19?

There are no licensed treatments for COVID-19. USAMRDC is exploring antiviral drugs under emergency investigational new drug (IND) or Expanded Access Protocol to treat COVID-19. USAMRDC is exploring, with Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND) and Gilead Sciences, Inc., an expanded use of a drug called Remdesivir that has demonstrated activity against severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus (MERS-CoV). This drug was tested in the Democratic Republic of Congo to treat Ebola virus alongside three other therapeutics.

I'm currently in the same boat and cannot sleep. My mind is racing a bit out of morbid curiosity.

Is there any further news on Actemra/Tocilizumab being effective during treatment? I saw the drug mentioned earlier and it has apparently been used to treat patients in Italy. I don't want to jump on the fake news train

Anyone else playing the spring allergies or mild corona game?
Haha, sorta. I always get horrendous after it rains and it rained and boom the next day my nose was a stuffed up mess. Throat sore, but definitely sore from clearing it. Not remotely a fever. Same shit I always get, luckily. Can't help but wonder sometimes though obviously.

Well young people don't fear this virus as much as the elderly so it's not a surprise they aren't taking the CDCs suggestions seriously. It will take real laws to stop it honestly

Several people I work with were talking about how the US can't do what Italy is doing, at the beginning of the week before Italy extended their measures to cover the entire country. Because of freedom and murica. A lot of those types will ignore any measures because the "the government can't do that."

I'm amazed New Orleans hasn't shut down Bourbon Street/The French Quarter as a whole. The whole thing is an attractive place for hundreds or thousands of people to gather.

Also things like all the casinos on the Vegas Strip, you gotta shut those down.

😂 ¡Salud! y ojalá que no... Se va a poner fea la cosa.

But really, they're being so relaxed with this, the should just follow El Salvador and Paraguay who immediately went "FUCK!" when they started noticing new cases in their countries. Prevention is everything at this moment, but fuck it, let's gamble some lives (says the government).

Canada
Just a quick update, after all testing numbers are in Canada stands at 253 cases/1 death/1 serious/11 recovered. We had a +27% increase today, one more then yesterday. Not as bad as March 12, where we had a +35% increase. We need to try and get it back to under 20%; it was there for a while before jumping.

As a side note, I've been good about controlling it, but my health anxiety is kicking in bad. Saw that we only had 5000 ventilators in Canada and those posts of American airports and that did it. I thought I got this out of my system when following Wuhan. I'm going to take a break and go to sleep.

I know in my heart it's my allergies immediately from the effect it has on my eyes. I don't really get sick, last time was when I was 14. But allergies really fuck me up something fierce. So I'm afraid of public transportation/Uber looks when I eventually start sniffling or coughing.

O'Hare confirms the crazy lines.

twitter.com

O'Hare Intl. Airport on Twitter

“@BrookeGMcDonald Thank you for yr patience. Customs processing is taking longer than usual inside the Federal Inspection Services (FIS) facility bc of enhanced #COVID19 screening for passengers coming from Europe. We’ve strongly encouraged our federal partners to increase staffing to meet demand.”

Friendly reminder: It's still cold and flu season. I am finally getting over a 10 day cold and was wanting to go down the corona rabbit hole when it was pretty bad. But, I didn't have a fever and was not losing my breath. If you feel like you are getting sick, it very well might be your standard cold. Stuffy nose, phlem, etc, does not mean you have to corona virus. Obviously, fever and shortness of breath should cause concern and you would want to contact your medical provider, or if you don't have a primary care doctor, your local Dept of Health and ask what you should do.

I know it's mostly anecdotal etc...but I am very worried much of the US is just partying like usual on St Patrick's day weekend and undoing any progress being made by containment measures.

My whole family has lung issues and allergies (Asthma, COPD, Scarcoidosis, etc..) so we are playing the is the cough normal every day cough or doom lol.
Makes sense. On our end we got one of those in-ear thermometers with the disposable caps and we've been taking temps each day (the fam does it once a day, I do it twice a day (more for piece of mind - I know it might be overkill).

The sad part to me is im trying to see what the end of this looks like and I just cant.

We can isolate everything in an attempt to "flatten the curve" but I feel the reality is that unless we all shut down everything and basically stay in quarentine until we find a vaccine that it will be impossible to actually flatten that curve.

Then once we do get through it all we will have to deal with the economic fallout of it all which is going to be just as if not more devastating.

This is an awesome call out.

Governor JB Pritzker on Twitter

“The crowds & lines O’Hare are unacceptable & need to be addressed immediately. @realDonaldTrump @VP since this is the only communication medium you pay attention to—you need to do something NOW. These crowds are waiting to get through customs which is under federal jurisdiction”

I know everybody is probably sick of "uh oh it's finally here where I live" type posts but Iowa just confirmed its first case of community spread and it's in my county so uh oh it's finally here where I live!

Our shitty governor gave a speech where she confirmed it and also said she doesn't recommend closing the schools at this time which, uh, ok sure

Thank you for giving concise, easy numbers for Canada everyday. I appreciate it :) And yeah, we need to get down to less than 20% again...

I hear you about the health anxiety. Mine was so bad yesterday at work, my heart rate was over 100 almost all day (thanks FitBit) and I thought I was getting a fever and felt hot, and I came home and took my temperature and when I saw it was normal, I started crying. Way too much anxiety built up over the day 😥 Monday in the office, and then I get the rest of the week working from home...
