The disparity between the death rates for men and women in all but the 90+ age group is still shocking to me.

Has there been any detailed analysis as to why this is happening, not just in Italy, but globally too?

One of the Italy doctors explained why.

The hospitals are at full capacity so they are being selective.

They pick young people over old people, and they peak women over men, when it comes to "who gets to be saved in priority".

In Piemonte we have 0 recovered cases.
I read yesterday that the first Piemonte's patient has recovered and tested negative.
torino.repubblica.it

Torino, il paziente numero 1 verso la libertà: negativo il tampone

Dopo tre settimane di ricovero potrà abbracciare miglie e due figli

Also a 97-year-old man recovered:
torino.repubblica.it

Coronavirus: guarito un uomo di 97 anni ricoverato all'Amedeo di Savoia di Torino

Dopo sette giorni in ospedale oggi il test che accerta la negatività all'infezione

It is strange that in the official numbers they are reported as recovered.

It seems like the regional government of the Azores tried to shutdown the airways to the Azores but the national government of Portugal denied it so the regional government has now made the letter public.
We really need to close the airways, it's 9 islands who can't handle that many cases.

Can you share where you saw this? Wouldn't surprise me in the least but haven't seen anything out there yet.

It's not that way, a group of specialists and medics that work in IC wrote a public letter in which they explained that this can still happen.

Right, but things have gotten worse since publication.
In this, they say that when at full capacity, comorbidities, age, and social information should be used to determine how to prioritize treatment.

I don't believe they have been able to treat every single person with the same amount of care in the last week. It's not feasible.

Countries are closing border in EU one by one.

Not France ! :D

Instead we decided to have massive manifestations in the middle of the capital. It's gonna turn out great.

Dang, I hope they don't close us down before Wednesday because I just ordered a new TV since my old broke down. Sitting at home without being able to watch Netflix would suuuuuck.

if they do close you down in the same way the locked us down (italy) you can still receive packages and food delivery... it is just going to look vaguely dystopian when the delivery guy is wearing a face mask, gloves and refuses to come in contact with you... I had friends who got the package left in the elevator XD

I'm in southern California with 5 reported cases in my county. Should I stop going out to restaurants, bars, etc.? Like I don't know to what extent I'm supposed to stop going to gatherings and places. Should I just go to work, go home, and only go out for essentials?

Yes, if you don't absolutely need to go somewhere then don't. It's not worth the risk.

Keep your distance from people, 6ft when possible, and yes avoid large gatherings.

Actually, that's the situation:

1) IC treatment is nearly full in Lombardia but they're adding new beds every day (like around ten).
2) They still transfer patients from Lombardia in hospital of other regions. A totally of 4 were transferred today from that regions to other hospitals.

Honestly, I don't think we're still at that point. And everyone deny that.

It makes me happy to see governments take this seriously. But then I remember how long it took them to.

My town's mayor enacted a 50% occupancy emergency measure yesterday, so basically no room in any restaurant, etc. can be more than 50% full. Look out for something similar in your area, and avoid places that continue to seat people right next to each other. Some restaurants here are converting to curbside/takeout for that reason.

Nice to see that France is in lockdown already, faster than we did in Italy but we were the first anyway. Everything will be fine in France as well.

EU
The UK Approach regarding herd immunity honestly sounds a little like the government never wanted to put "the work" into even TRYING to contain this so they figure this is the next best approach and it comes off as kind of "lazy" to me personally. Now i am aware that i probably do not see all they see and have access to all the data like the government has obviously so i cannot claim there is absolutely no validity to this concept and who knows, maybe in the LONG run it may have some benefits, but the human cost to get there just seems insane to me.
And i reckon that pretty much anyone not likely to be included in the 80% with mild symptoms will somewhat agree with me at least here....

Trying to tell my friend's panicky wife to give the pediatric urgent care a call BEFORE taking their kids there for cough and fever (one day only, lol) to see if they will even see them, even if it is only flu or something else.

Lets hope they don't close down the shop I ordered it from first. Getting it into my apartment shouldn't be a problem. It's probably too heavy for me alone but I still have one of those "hand trucks" so I should be able to get it in. First world problems.... oh my....

Also heard a bit where older men are more likely to have been/are smokers, and as such are more likely to have lung problems leading to complications.

Family told me a second case was reported in San Antonio. This person recently returned from Japan. I'm guessing they'll start discovering cases of community transmission as a result of this and the other travel related case from California.

Would early prostate cancer be considered a compromised immune condition? That's higher in men right?

Smoking seems to be a huge factor in COD-19. Some days ago the Istituto Superiore della Sanità (CDC in Italy basically) said that smokers have double chance to end up in IC but the article was missing sources anyway.
