Fuck I never thought about laundry. My parents don't have their own laundry machines so my mom does their laundry at a laundromat. Who knows how many fucking germs those machines are filled with. Goddammit.

Fuck Ford for cancelling the UBI pilot that from all accounts was working and also fucking over the people in the pilot in the process.

Carry on.

Yup. My mum was on the pilot as were a lot of people from our community and it was heartbreaking and completely demoralizing when he reneged on his promise not to cancel it (big surprise). Guess at least it softened the blow when he did the same thing with the Hamilton LRT : /

Same with Spain, hell in some places is already happening (Catalonia). Both Madrid and Catalonia are urging the government for a full lockdown. So we are there already, basically.

My sister is a doctor working in Marbella, Spain and she told me today, it's about to get really bad in Spain in the next few days. I'm not trying to create more fear and panic, but I believe whatever information can be shared, should be in a situation like this.

Stay inside and as safe as you can people.

Me and my family begin our self quarantine today here in Valencia. Really terrible situation in Madrid, already know of a few people with it, but I'm specially disturbed by all those poor doctors and nurses working their assess off and endangering their lives while some idiots are still out there not taking the necessary precautions to not spread the virus.

That "unskilled" bit always killed me. The most taxing job I ever had was when I was a glorified sous chef. Physically demanding, having to juggle a thousand things in your head at any time, remember the excruciating details of workplace safety laws and things like inventory, having to sometimes work front of house, deliveries (!), cleaning a bunch of fish and other prep work for hours just so you can work hours using it all, etc. All for less than half what I earned in my first office job, which I admit was breathtakingly easy in comparison and immediately gave me three weeks of paid vacation to take whenever I wanted.

Even Pizza Hut, one of my teenage jobs, was more difficult.

Yeah there's definitely plenty of specialized, 'skilled' jobs where you need to learn many years from to get the knowledge/experience to be able to do the work properly. White collar? For some of it, honestly, I could almost consider it "unskilled" as well (poor management can make for a "learn as you go" workplace, anyways), and some positions really don't need 4 years of school to have the "skills" to do the work. Really no different than retail/service jobs, except you don't interact with a ton of customers every single day and whatnot.

I have a bottle of 70% Isopropyl Alcohol in the apartment (use it to clean controllers and whatnot). Stupid question, but uhh, can I use this to disinfect surfaces since there's zero chance I'm finding cleaning wipes at this point?

Arizona response has been fucking terrible

we had a massive festival planned in chandler that only JUST got cancelled an hour ago

my resort (owned by Marriott) held a town hall for employees where they didn't even bring up washing your hands, don't come to work if you're sick, rather just talked about the economic impact to the business. garbage

my mom is a loan processor so theyre very busy due to interest rates being so low, and they only just put up signs about hand washing, she has been asking to work from home for days now and no response yet (job can totally be done at home).

Does the quarantine include people who have to go to work for the private sector? Or is all non-essential work barred as well?

So, I earlier today mentioned leadership is making us all work from home until at least the end of the month. I just got an email saying they're cancelling all travel and events until April 30th. Also, when we do finally return, we have to be screened and tested. Man this is crazy.

Yes, that should work fine. Don't dilute it though. That concentration is the recommended one.

So with cases declining in China and Northern Italy while people are quarantined, wouldn't it spike back up once people start socializing again?

Is almost all assured we will be the next Italy, is going to be bad, today was the first day in a week I went out of the house to get some food and stuff and the sensation of dread was palpable. People are worried and not only because of the virus, economically people is already losing jobs, mortgages and rents that won't be able to pay, etc.

The recession really hit hard here and there's this feeling we'll have another one.

Can you get the virus at the same time as you're fighting a standard flu? If so then I'm fucked.
Have hope

but yes, can be impacted by multiple viruses at once.

I'm sorry about your mom. :(

From what I read, people on the pilot had budgeted that money and when he cancelled it left them in a really bad place.

Anyway, I don't want to derail but it's one of many reason I loathe Ford.

My county just announced that the water company will NOT be shutting off any services for those unable to pay their bill during the local shutdown time. That's pretty rad of them.

People are slowly going back to work in China (and other countries like Taiwan), but they still have fever checks everywhere, and everyone with symptoms get tested and isolated as needed, with extensive contact tracing. Seem to be working so far, they are monitoring this and I'm sure if they see a spike in infections they'll adjust what they're doing.
Once you get the number low enough it's a much more manageable problem.

Assuming you can test people.

I just got over the flu last week, shit destroyed me. Still have a bit of a cough and I'm still a little short of breath. Really hoping if I get coronavirus I don't get it for a few more weeks at least. My body needs time to recover.

I am 44 (almost 45 if I get lucky) years old. I have been in and out of the hospital system since I was 2 years old.
My spleen was removed when I was 9 to counter a blood disease. Since then I have been forced to take penicillin when I get a temperature above 38.5 degrees Celsius. Because a person without a spleen is not allowed to get pneumonia, that is deadly.
This Tuesday I was told by a lung specialist that I have COPD.

I have never been afraid of dying... I am married with 4 daughters.. I love my life...

And now I am scared for my life. I have never had this feeling before. I live on a small Island community in the middle of nowhere (Faroe Islands), but we have a government with no balls. They could very easily have closed these islands down, but instead they allowed people in.. 2 days ago we had 2 people infected and in quarantine, today we have 4, because they allowed planes to land and spread the virus.

I work at a car dealership, selling spareparts and handling the repairs. I am in direct contact with customers all the time.. we even have avis/budget car rental in our company, so I face tourists all day long.

I am fucking scared. I am scared for my life, scared for the future of my famliy.

I have live for almost 45 years, and I have never felt like this before..

Yeah, I stopped short of writing that Spain was gonna go through what Italy is facing because it felt too much like fear mongering, but it seems that way.

Here in Portugal, I think most people haven't quite grasped the gravity of the situation, and I fear we will follow you guys in a downward spiral.

Money wise, it's gonna be tough as hell. Stay safe brother.

Spoke to my surgeon, there was a government mandate to cancel operations unless they're absolutely necessary for at least one month. Right now I'm still on for Friday, but he's going to check in on Wednesday and if it's at all a bad idea (if Covid patients are in the Cardiac ICU or OR) they're going to cancel. It might be two weeks, it might be six. We have no idea and we also don't know how long I'll be able to hold out while we potentially wait so it's a balancing act of not killing me in the hospital but also me not dying at home. Man, these are things I never thought I'd have to type or say.

The response in GA, ya know, the home of the CDC, has been really sketchy. On one hand, they seem to be taking it seriously by closing schools, signing orders to prevent water shut off, ect.

On the other hand, their numbers reporting has been slow and laughable in their apparent authenticity, especially considering the serious response. As of today we're reporting 42. There is no fucking way it's that low here considering so many factors, like just our airport alone. And while I know that every state is struggling with testing right now, it really does feel like they're trying to hide shit or purposely keep the numbers low.

It's like the response from government seems more along the lines of the actual, much higher number, (I'm guessing we have to be at least in the 1,000 range but I personally assume much higher), but the official statement is "42". Like they're putting out a mansion fire in front of us but telling us it was just a shed.

I've been in quarantine for only 8 hours now and I'm already annoyed at the lack of freedom

Gonna be weird for a bit but we'll make do.

We don't get the test results back until next week sometime so until then we're stuck in here, if it's positive it'll be even longer.
