So a quick question here..

Who are the people who needs to be most careful?
I know the elderly and sick.. and the people with chronic diseases.. but what are those diseases?

I have COPD and no spleen (which means I have to be careful not to get pneumonia because that can be very bad for me. )

am I in the critical category?

Pneumonia is a side-effect of corona so yes you need to be careful.

Sounds like you are in the high risk group, definitely get in touch with your doctor

My work sent out an email yesterday banning masks from the office, for any reason, unless you've gone through the steps to file for an ADA accommodation. I work for the state government and this is what they claim was "sent down from Headquarters."

So when my dumb ass, sick co-workers come in riddled with corona because they burned all their sick time, they aren't even allowed to wear a fucking mask.

FML.

Yeah I guess so. I was just diagnosed with COPD from a lung specialist yesterday.. asked her if COPD was a reason for me to be more careful, she said that my missing spleen was more reason.. she never specified.. was a lot to swallow with the diagnosis of COPD.

I'm a health and safety officer at my company and we've been given the order to implement regular office disinfection twice a day. We're still on a "if you get sick use PTO" guideline however. Because we all have weeks of PTO to burn if we have flu like symptoms I guess.

Absolutely yes. Coronavirus is essentially an easily catchable bilateral pneumonia.

Are the recovered numbers barely or not recorded in the US? The numbers don't make sense.

Like, how does the US haver 1.2K cases and only 8 recoveries? That would means many have been sick for months now - which isn't how the virus works.

China has had 80k cases, and 61k recoveries - that makes sense. The US recovery number makes no sense at all.

I work for my state government as well and was notified of the same thing.

I'm currently with flu since yesterday morning. So far, I first started with a soar throat, then came a fluffy nose ( a lot of liquid stream falling from my nose and some light alergic sneezing moments), then a mild fever since today but that throat- soarness has disappeared for the moment; in fact, these are the same exact symptoms when I commonly get sick, with a coughing sympton starting during last one or two days, which is exactly when I know I'm getting fully recovered.

The question is, should I actually get worried about? Usually, when i get common flu it lasts between 3-5 days max. Though what really concerns me is my mother's starting to feel sick too (this's happened before cause we live in a normal size apartment)

I'm totally confined into my bedroom at the moment, playing videos games, reading books etc.

Since the past two days, my country has 11 cases confirmed with one confirmed death at the moment, only 4 millions citizens.

People got it, thought it was a flu, and recovered. It can take up to 21 days to recover too.

Recovery is generally 2-3 weeks and other countries are a month or two behind China's curve.

We got a fair here with a bunch of events surrounding it. The fair was cancelled. They are preparing the events everywhere now.

Dumb fucks.

Edit:

Should be noted that the events are free. Which will attract more people. And they wont even get money out of it. Just wtf.

It does make sense. China's recovery numbers were extremely small in the beginning and had a huge rise over time. People take weeks to totally recover from this and test negative.

A doctor just on radio 5 here in the UK said their modelling expects a 134,000 people will need IC, so they have to spread out the need, so that number comes over a long time

It's still the flu season and flu is more contagious than Coronavirus so unless you've had contact with someone who has traveled recently or with someone who is infected, I'd just avoid people and think of it as the flu unless you start getting worsening respitatory symptoms consistent with pnuemonia.

Have local users in the Montreal area learned about the current situation regarding meetings? I wanted to attend a scientific conference in may, but it isn't canceled for now. Canada's homepage doesn't mention any restrictions regarding meetings and conferences, but governments act really fast now.

Well my local college has gone online classes now.

Wonder if anyone will be at the local bar's wing night? That's like my one social activity I have.

Cancel Cheltanham you fool.
70K people mingling in crowded spaces every day until Friday is crazy.
It seems like the height of irresponsibility, yes. I have a friend who likes horse racing and always books holidays to watch Cheltenham (on TVs in pubs, not live in person in Cheltenham) and I've been saying for weeks that it'd surely be called off. He knows approximately infinitely more about horse racing than I do and was sure it wouldn't be, because of the amounts of money involved, and he's been proven right so far. It still seems utterly reckless to me though.

Self isolate if you can. Don't take any chances. Call your doctor.

What are the chances of the olympics being cancelled or postponed ?

Consider them cancelled.

University of Tennessee system moving to online classes starting March 23, after spring break, until at least April 3. Campus offices and departments remaining open for now.

Got an email this afternoon saying to notify supervisors if travelling outside the county.

Are the Chinese increase numbers correct? They seem quite low for how many infected the country has :-/

Welp
There's no deadline for a decision, but one of the people familiar with the talks said the task force will not give Trump its final verdict until Jared Kushner, the president's senior adviser and son-in-law, finishes his research and comes to a conclusion himself.

Trump fears emergency declaration would contradict coronavirus message

Trump is concerned that declaring an emergency would hamper his narrative that the coronavirus is similar to the seasonal flu.

honestly all countries with cases of this should just shut down in order to contain the pandemic. It's irresponsible to still carry on and have institutions, public events and gatherings, non-essential workplaces, etc. still going

It is business as usual here still but it is not going to last. More cases were confirmed today and decisions are being made.

So let me try to understand here... are you saying Taiwan is doing a bad or good job here trying to contain the outbreak? What is your take on their action? Is this something the US should adopt under the current administration?

I doubt the US can do it with current president.

Taiwan doing overall a good job when compare with other country.

Government both party working together and although granting themselve emergency power to infringe on some roght, they set limit(1 year) and give clear example on what it is.

At firat sign of possible they allow Taiwan CDC to go to wuhan in dec or jan, to asses and work up a plan by expert that govt and public are following

Keeping good social distance, wash hand, wear mask

Govt create own supply of mask working with manufacturongto ensure aupply for public and health worker

Rationing through national health insurance that all citizen is register too

Publish daily update on total test, how many infexted(age and gender) which city ams vwctor of infection.

Only publishing their name and picture if they break quarantine

Making more aupply of the treatment that seem to work.

Setting up emergency fund for people economic need whether job or small business.

The first few emergency power and mandatory quarantine or self would likely result in US people sueong which has happened in the diamondn princess situaton

Taiwan also isnt bery big, so health ad social worker can check people self quarantine easily

Governmemt manufacturong mask, sanitiZer, medicine and drug would be harder in the us and seen as communist or socialost

The US government is not being open om the situatiom, orderong US CDC to classify information not making enough test amd same bramch will speak diferent thing

And even not allow test

This. In Finland the message is just to wash your hands and cough in you sleeve. No measures whatsoever, planes are still flying from Milan of all places...

My sister just posted on Facebook about how the media is insane and this hysteria is overblown and blah blah blah. She then posted about how she doesn't care how many people are infected, she is taking her daughter to her cheer competition and they better not cancel it!

I responded with some educational info and explained WHY cancellations are happening and why its important.

Nope.

It's all a coverup and all insane and the hysteria is killing more than the virus.

I can't even with people like this. They will be the reason this shit continues to spread and kill people.

All football in the UK expected to go behind closed doors as soon as tomorrow. A few lower league clubs are going to be hit really, really hard by this.
