Honestly though to those who had a problem with what the final boss was like how the hell do you think they should have ended it because if the final midgar boss was the final boss in the remake that would be SUCH a limp ending to the game.
The final boss, phase 1 is the same character model, phase 2 he starts to get "weird" and phase 3 you get Jenova. Have your cake and eat it too without blowing the stakes out of the water in the first chapter.

What the heck is up with some of you people???

Constant affirmation that Tetsuya Nomura wasn't the crazy guy making all the crazy stuff, and yet some of you can't let go of the memes and hatred long enough to even understand it.

I feel like criticizing how he handles the games he directs is understandable and fine, but we really need to crack down on this blame-game nonsense, it spreads misinformation about his involvement and keeps perpetuating "ONE ASSHOLE DEV RUINED EVERYTHING" bullshit that derails legit conversation and dilutes the actual facts in favor of memes and righteous indignation.

The way people talk about Nomura, you'd think there'd be several brackets around his name, it's embarrassing.

I appreciate the ones keeping a cool head about this topic even if they disagree with the game's ending or execution, I'm just fed up with all the "nomura is a crazy dev that ruins everything" posts that never stop coming up.
I've had to come to terms with this. It's easy to blame Nomura but the whole team seems kinda like they're on that Otaku juice where the "impression" of things is more important than the actual original content. That being said it raises many questions why many of the changes and elements in the new game reflect very similarly to Nomura sensibilities, and if it was star power of people working under Tetsuya trying to replicate him or other possible issues with trying to capture the same lightning in a bottle. Either way it's definitely more complicated than "Damn you Nomura."

Guys, I got it.

Part 2 will consist of Aerith throwing Cloud and Tifa into the lifestream, so that Cloud regains his self, and never gives the black materia to Sephiroth.
They defeat original Sephiroth, tell him he was being manipulated by Genova. They become friends and nobody dies.

The end.

I bought the new issue of Famitsu this morning and have been reading the interview with the developers, I found a comment from the producer Kitase that is directly related to the current discussion in this thread.

Here is a quote from Kitase from the recent interview:
"Director Nomura, Co-directors Hamaguchi and Toriyama basically wanted to keep as many parts of the original as possible that were loved by fans. We wanted to build a balance that adds some surprises to the Remake. Some fans may want to have the exact same experience as they remember, but if it's really the same, it will be just a re-experience of memories losing its significance as a remake. By adding new elements, we were able to revive FFVII for the new era."

The direction of the Remake is not all Nomura, it's a team effort discussed by all the key staff. As a fan of the OG, I really like the way Kitase is thinking, hoping they can deliver an even better installment whenever the release date for part 2 is.

Midgar, With Love
Glad he did so, but I'm someone who doesn't dislike the endgame stretch so in my mind he stepped in exactly enough. lo

I'm really fucking glad it wasn't a 1-to-1 remake.

Hope VIII gets the same treatment someday

Surprising, would have figured the craziest stuff would be from Nomura.

But overall, he did a fine job. Thought the ending was fantastic.

I'm infinitely more excited for part 2 now that I know we aren't getting a 1:1 remake.

I have my full trust in namura after this game, do whatever u want we will still have the original.
Also I'm really tired of all the negativity surrounding gaming this year, i think gamers are becoming more entitled by the year complaining about every decision the developers make, like if they decided early on that anything but what was expected is shit.
Tlou2: bad story
Ff7r: they butchered the original
Doom eternal: more of the same
Got: assassin creed copy
What about just accepting what u got and if u don't like it then fine it's not the end of the world.

Once you beat Rufus, shit was pure nonsense, it was KH tier wackiness. Cloud fucking
killed DESTINY ITSELF and won against the embodiment of Sephiroth

Where the fuck do they go from that?
He lost to Sephiroth.

They should changed even more, rather than the mess we got.

As always, the problem was not the idea (changing the 'final boss') but the execution.

I can't even get mad about the ending. I wasn't crazy about it, but I don't think it's exactly Kingdom Hearts levels of insanity. And while the same sort of content bores me today, my thirteen year old existential self would have been reeling at that ending. If it can make someone like me feel the way I would have at that age and leave a lasting impression on them I can live with it. And I'm happy because it's a better playing game than the original and they nailed the characterization of the cast. In that sense I can't wait to see what's next.

I need this sequel injected straight into my veins. Especially the OST. With PS5 Tempest 🤯

Not gonna lie, would rather he didn't stop.

Nomura: Both Nojima and me had the goal from the very start of including the Compilation works going forward, so it wouldn't be odd for them to appear, or rather, we placed characters that properly should be there.

So you're saying all the theory videos might have a chance? Can't to wait see more characters from compilation showing up then!

*especially certain character from CC, wink.

No problems, do as you wish, plot addiction in ff7 r were so silly and convulted that i will skip next chapter of this remake.
Also level design was so bad that i slept quite few times from boredom...

People are allowed to have criticism for products they consume.

That said, people are a bit more negative this year for reasons I assume you haven't missed

As someone who regards FF7 Original as one of their favorite titles and played them all the way back in 1997-1998 I think the remastered game was phenomenal. Probably my personal favorite game this whole year and the second part is easily my most anticipated game. I was totally on board with the deviations. I found them enthralling, exciting and intriguing. They reimagined and improved the characters in ways that far exceeded my expectations. The combat was fantastic and the way they combined real time with turn based had great synergy and worked surprisingly well.

I think it's great that the unknown journey will forge its own path, where I am left just as clueless as the rest of you to ponder on how the story will continue.

Of course they do i'm just saying that this year was a lot more negative despite having a lot of good to great games and we also have 5 more months of new games and a new generation around the corner.
I guess your right about this being an abnormal year.
