According to the Steam page these ports are being developed by Netherlands-based studio Codeglue. I assume they're doing the Nintendo Switch version too.

I think it's more likely that the original developers are making the Switch version. It would be really weird for NISA to license a game and then pay to have all versions they will release to be made for themselves.

I'm so pleased to see this. Stranger of Sword City was so good, I didn't even realise there was another Experience game I hadn't played. I played the first Tokyo Legacy: Operation Abyss game too, I'm assuming that Sapphire Wings is very similar based on the video.

So is this a sequel to SoSC, or are they just bundling the two games together for reasons?
I believe it's set in the same world, centuries earlier (it's a remake of one of their earliest games). I don't think there's much more to it than that. They were already bundled together in the original Japanese release, though, so this isn't on NISA's whim.
Did a mod really ban someone for this? They're asking about NIS' upcoming title in their biggest IP and didn't even mention a platform, how in the world was it port begging?
It's not port begging per-se, but it coming into an announcement thread for one game with a drive-by post about a completely unrelated game by a different developer, just because a related company is localizing it.

The fact that there's no PS4 version would make me think it was NISA rather than Experience.

The lack of a PS4 version is why I think it is Experience funnily enough. I just can't see NISA paying to license a game without at least one original version.

Well, NIS America hasn't been a stranger to commissioning Nintendo Switch ports to overseas developers lately alongside their western-made PC counterparts. Engine Software's been churning out adaptations for the system like Trails of Cold Steel III, Caligula Overdose, and Cold Steel IV and Ys IX, both scheduled for next year. Meanwhile, Codeglue previously converted Corpse Party Blood Drive to the console for Marvelous USA and they're currently handling the localization development for Zoids Wild: Blast Unleashed, originally produced in Japan.

If that's how others feel, whatever I guess. It's some bullshit moderation in my opinion. If somebody came into a thread for a Square Enix announcement thread asking where FFXVI was I doubt we'd see any bans. It's relevant to the topic at hand.

And there's never any consistency on these stupid "port begging" bans. Looking at the most recent announcement thread I see, why aren't these posters banned?

Personally I find them all annoying and detrimental to discussion, but you're right that it's inconsistent.

I don't even know why the discussion is about PS4 and Experience. They'd release on XB1, c.f. Yomi wo Saku Hana. 😛

...Shitposting aside, NISA ported Labyrinth of Refrain to Switch and PC for the US release too. They do that a lot.

I'm 90% sure they teased it yesterday with their mid summer greetings card (They did the same with Disgaea 4, D2 and 5)

UAy5eZB_d.webp

So let's wait for TGS.
Yeah, it sounds like it. I'm just surprised that they announced a few new titles but not the obvious one.

On a side note, would a mod explain me why I was banned for a few hours? It can be private.

the people who started experience inc cut their teeth on wizardry games. after the wizardry xth games and the dissolution of the company michaelsoft, staff members founded experience inc and made three games in the 'generation xth' series. the first two were re-released/updated as 'operation abyss' while the last one was 'operation babel.' a fourth game came out in this series called labyrinth cross blood.

shortly after completing the first three generation xth games, they developed 'students of the round,' which connects to the worlds of stranger of sword city and the demon gaze games. 'saviors of sapphire wings' is a remake of 'students of the round' that was going to be on vita ('students' was only on xbox 360, psp, and pc prior to this). of their dungeon rpgs, the only one that hasn't seen a western release at this time is cross blood.

Thanks for the explanation, that's really clear, appreciate it. So was Students of the Round made before SOSC?

I should pick up Operation Babel.

the generation xth trilogy and students of the round were all created between 2009 and 2010. because these are the first drpgs they made after wizardry, they're apparently more hardcore, or dry, compared to later efforts. demon gaze was meant to be more accessible just in general. stranger of sword city was made in 2015, after demon gaze and after they remade / updated all four games in their generation xth series.

Thanks, I was wondering why I was banned and I couldn't see the post that was my banning reason.

My bad, I didn't intended to do port begging, I was just curious why Disgaea 6 is still unannounced, it's been a while now.

That makes perfect sense- I found SOSC to be much stronger than the others! Loved the art style, made a real change from most of their other titles.

I've no info on Saphire Wings (would appriciate if someone fill me on it), but HOLY SMOKES! SOSC Revisited is here!
I've tried to get into SoSC base game so much (I like first person dungeon crawlers), but the mechanics were little to overwhelming.

Is Sword City the game where on PC you could upload your own custom pictures when creating your own characters? Or was that not it?

So... Are you able to just buy Stranger of Sword City? Or are you forced to buy them together? Cause I'm wondering if I should just buy SOSC while it's on sale for $3.99 on Steam. I know the revised version is better but annoying if I have to buy it as a bundle.

they're bundled together. the reason why is that in japan the star attraction was the remake of students of the round for vita. sosc revisited was a bonus to entice more people to buy it. that vita version is now being ported to switch and steam.

Is there any chance they will sell them apart?

NISA put out a short video talking about the new features in both games. Release date is still 3/16 on both Switch and PC.

The game comes out tomorrow and I feel like I'm the only one buying it (even though it'll take over a month to arrive).

I completely forgot about this one. Have SoSC on the Vita and quite liked it. Might spring for this once I get passed a few other items in the backlog.

Any word on Xbox release by chance? I remember originally a lot of these titles were on 360 or Xbone.

I'm buying this for Saviors since I already played Stranger. Hopefully someone makes an OT, I really like Experience Inc games but I have no idea about character builds or anything for this game since usually there's a fair amount of English info before they get localized.

I preordered the physical collector's edition months ago and got this email a few hours ago.

Hello,

We would like to give you an update on your order for Saviors of Sapphire Wings / Stranger of Sword City Revisited Limited Edition (Nintendo Switch™)

Due to an unexpected delay in assembly in our warehouse, the outgoing shipments for preorders have been affected. We are working diligently to expedite the process and minimize any further delays. Once we have an update on when you order will ship, we will let you know right away.

Thank you for your patience while we work through this unexpected delay, and we look forward to getting your order shipped to you as soon as possible.

Best wishes,
NISA Online Store

But the email title is this:

Update on your Trails of Cold Steel IV for PS4 Order

I didn't order Trails of Cold Steel IV. I hate the Trails games. I don't know what to believe. The email headline says one thing and the main body another.

I got really confused when I got quoted (all the way back in Sept of last year haha), but thanks anyway.

Maybe I'll buy them together as is, is the other game good too? How similar are they?

Yeah! Sorry about that. I noticed like right as I hit submit. I haven't played the other one yet, but I plan on picking this up tomorrow!

Yeah, picking my copy up tomorrow. Gonna do Saviors first, Undernauts later this year, then Stranger next year (never played the Revisited version). Gonna space 'em out since DRPGs are still pretty uncommon.

I got Stranger already on PC, but because I'm hungry for DRPGs on Switch I will get this. It's nice this have a physical release actually.

Probably a Silly question, but do any of the versions still have the 'upload your own faces' feature in it? I' have some ideas for a party I'd do and that seems pretty fun, tbh lol.

I don't think so. Wasn't that Elminage?

I looked it up and it looks to have been a specific feature in the files, so it may still exist in the PC version of the new port:

steamcommunity.com

How to Use Picture Gate :: Stranger of Sword City Troubleshooting

Hey doods! Want to upload your own picture to use in the game? Here's how! Step 1: Go to the directory: Steam\steamapps\common\Stranger of Sword City\PICTUREGATE\ Step 2: Choose one of the folders and enter it. You can have up to 16 custom characters, dood! Step 3: You need four files, which can...

TLDR: It involves putting 4 different resolutions of the picture you want in a specific folder. Looks easy enough to do, honestly, but it pretty much rules out the option bein gin the non PC-versions of the game.
