Too many people still expect GBA in this time where a lot of publishers and studios learned how to either remake or release remaster collections and sell them.

This isn't 2014 on the Wii U anymore.

With that said, bring on DK94. It's a fucking classic.
Nintendo aren't actually doing that though. Their GBA library is almost entirely ignored on Switch.

Finally canceled auto renewal considering I only ever used this service to try through some older SNES games and maybe devoted a grand total of 10 hours to it since the service launched. If GB & GBC are all they've got to add value to the service, I'm not sure why I have it. Even if it is just $20 a year. 🤷🏼‍♂️

This game better be there:

latest

The sequel is better. I mentioned it a bit upthread, but localizing that would be amazing.

Nor are they even physically able to do it. I just doubt very much having older games available on VC is having much of any effect on remakes.
Yeah, remakes and emulated releases are fairly separate concerns. Having Metroid 2 on 3DS VC certainly didn't stop Nintendo from remaking the game on the very same platform.

Awesome. Maybe it will drop prices on some physical carts. Some of them are stupid expensive now.

What are the "deep" cuts we'll get in 1.5 years time? Like what are the games you'd pass over at a KB Toys to grab Pokemon Red?

I feel like we've been hearing this rumor for the past three years. But I would definitely jump in to a lot of GB titles again.

GBA/N64 have 4 player to deal with for online support (and next to nothing to reissue on the N64 front besides around 25 games) while GB/GBC only has 2P games, so this was always the likely pick in my eyes.
I don't think 4P multiplayer for N64 games would be hard to implement using the existing framework. However, the 2P multiplayer for GB and GBC would require a totally new implementation, because that's multiplayer on separate systems, not multiple controllers on a single system like the NES and SNES. And that's my biggest reason for continuing to doubt this rumor -- if it's happening, then either they'll have to forgo multiplayer entirely, or come up with a way of emulating the link cable (with tolerance for Internet connections which will take longer -- and variable -- amounts of time to exchange data that Game Boy games weren't programmed to handle).

Also, I'd be very happy with Game Boy games, but N64 has a boatload of flagship classics -- easily more than the GB and GBC, especially without Pokémon titles.

They already made a solution for that on 3DS, where you can battle and trade Pokémon through the internet with the GB games. I don't think the emulator is the same, but I'm sure they could replicate that solution on the Switch.

Keep in mind Xbox Live and PSN both give you free current gen games every month.
We're gonna hit 5 years in with no way to play N64 games on this device

This service is atrocious

GBC has a pretty good library even if it's only a small number of games overall. GB's library is huge but a lot of that is not super playable for modern audiences (though considering some of Nintendo's picks for the NES/SNES services I'm expecting to see some real deep cuts and oddballs, probably mostly because of cheap licensing fees lol)

I'm betting we won't see Pokemon or Tetris since Game Freak knows they could get away with $10 virtual console titles again or a more expensive collection and Tetris rights are just weird. I'm definitely expecting Mario Land, Metroid 2, and Link's Awakening for GB, and the Wario Land games for GBC, along with the Camelot Mario Tennis and Golf games probably.

Also Pokemon Puzzle Challenge is the best game on the GBC and no one can tell me otherwise. I don't know if we'd see it here, but I'd be very happy to have it on my Switch.

It's also 3 times as cheap as PS+ and Xbox LIVE Gold, and unlike those services NSO gives you access to all previous games even if you subscribe today.

I'm not saying I don't agree with that the service could offer more, but it's not fair to directly compare it with competitive services that are (way) more expensive.

edit: Keep in mind that buying a SNES game on the Wii U eShop was like €6-8 or something. So if you were to buy 3 games you'd already be out of more money than a year of NSO would cost you, that gives you access to a whole library of games. I think N64 games were €10? No way they're going to add a big N64 library to a €20 a year service. Not anytime soon.

Metroid 2 released 6 years before Samus returns. If they had had any plans for a new remake at that point, they would have skipped releasing it. Same way that things like mario and Luigi: Bowser's inside story never made it to the Wii U Virtual console, because by the time they were doing the DS games, they were in the process of a full remake on the 3DS and quietly shelved it from release there. Same for twilight princess Wii version never being made available as a download on the Wii U

Whatever, they'll just drip-feed 2 or maybe 3 games every few months anyways. Hell they didn't even include an NES game in the last update.

PSN games expire. If you miss the monthly PSN rotation you're shit out of luck.
Sure Nintendo Online is much cheaper but don't miss anything from if subscribe later date.

8 years of PS4 and nothing happened to PS1-3 BC.

IIRC that required editing the games themselves to hook up with the emulator's connectivity features, rather than being a generic system any game with link cable support could use, though I could be wrong about that. Of course they already often edit emulated games on VC/NSO, but anything like that makes it less attractive than something you can plug and play with any new game you decide to release.

The lack of real-time interactivity in the Pokémon games' multiplayer is also different from something like Mario Tennis, where two players are moving around in real time. Although I suppose if you did force the game to wait extra long between updates, the experience wouldn't be any worse than lock-step input synced games already are.

That solution probably isn't very generalizable, but the Switch's additional power should allow running multiple instances of the emulator at once, which should allow a more general solution that works similarly to the online play for NES and SNES.

There were 3 different N64 games that got released on both Wii and Wii U despite getting remade on 3DS, and one of those released pretty close, too.

This shit irritates me, how are they going to focus on Game Boy & Game Boy Color and not GBA. Shit like this is why Capcom needs to hurry up with the Battle Network Collection.

They would have released Metroid II on VC the same day as Samus Returns if the timing had worked out that way. This is another fan-made rule/pattern that Nintendo doesn't actually follow if you take the time to look. Something like Twilight Princess not being downloadable on Wii U isn't the same at all, since TPHD is literally the same game.

This is an interesting idea I hadn't thought about. If they go this route, I wonder if they'd also be able to run 4 copies for GBA games.

Even if/when Nintendo adds GBA games, the Battle Network series won't be on it. And it's exactly for that reason -- third-parties being more interested in ports/collections/remasters of their old games than licensing them for Nintendo to sell -- that VC was discontinued and NSO's third-party library isn't the same.

No GBA fuuuck. Not really interested in jank original game boy games tbh. It's a step at least and it shows that they're still up for adding more though, so I guess that's good.

I get being disappointed about GBA not being added yet -- I think we can all agree the pace of NSO updates is too slow -- but did anyone really think they would either skip GB/GBC or add GB/GBC/GBA all at the same time? If they keep adding systems, N64 would be next, and then GBA after that.

GBC lineup should be depressing to look at. Oracle titles, SMB Deluxe, Wario Land 3... No Kirby due to gyro, no Rare games and almost no third party stuff (3DS VC only had Prince of Persia and Megaman IIRC)

Could get the GBC version of Donkey Kong Country. There's also the Japanese only version of DKC 3 that released on there if they want that to release that. Doubt Mickey's Speedway USA or Mickey's Racing Adventure would make it due to licensing.

So yeah, we'll likely only get 1 game, maybe 2 if we're lucky.
